Don't get all excited. It's just my idea...nothing even remotely hinted about by SE.

I was thinking about exploring and how it might be accomplished and popped into my head this idea. You could have a whole class around it. Some of the major attributes the pathfinder might have is the ability to make specialty maps of the lands it explores, the exclusive use of the chocobo, skills to move stealthily along dungeons (whether it's invis/sneak or whatever else), and perhaps scale mountains and access areas others normally can't to find super rare items used by crafters. I'm sure there are a ton of things we can add if we took the time to think about it.

Like the idea? Think of other things a pathfinder might be able to do.

Don't like the idea? Why not?

Concerning the Chocobo:

I thought it would be interesting if the pathfinder had exclusive rights to the chocobo. Everyone would level it to a certain point simply to be able to use the chocobo (remember, we can switch classes at our whim) similar to the BLM being leveled to 17 (I think?) for warp. As you progress as a pathfinder you might be able to start using the chocobo in different ways (use it as a distraction, give it a pack to carry more things around, dig, whatever else).

Concerning maps:

Perhaps the only way you could get maps was from pathfinders who have already explored the area or perhaps they can make custom maps that include things that normally don't go on maps (locations of certain items, places to find herbs/ore/whatever, quest locations) and regular maps can be had in other ways. Maybe both work.

I'd prefer Landstander, who only wants to stand on land.

Holy sh*t.. I love your idea. Would you level up by getting a wicked rash and then meet a dragoness and her dragon?

(Whoever defaulted you got super whoosed, but I think everyone will...)
