Spring 2010 or notFollow

Ever since I first saw the trailer, I expected this game to be coming out in the spring of next year. Recently there have been alot of things that would make me think otherwise. We all know that all the retailers have a release date of December 2010. Now the official FFXIV website has changed the release date from spring 2010 to just 2010. Although SE set a release date of Dec 17 for FFXIII in Japan, they still target spring 2010 for a US release. I don't see anyway that they will release these two powerhouse games so close to each other. They will cut their profits in half by doing that. I don't think we will see FFXIV any sooner than September.

I never knew that the official FFXIV website had once listed the release date as spring 2010.
Are you sure that's correct?

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it was always "TBA 2010".

As far as the game being released in Spring '10 there is no way that could possibly happen. At Gamescom SE said that the game was about 50% complete.
Also, closed beta testing hasn't even begun yet.

Not only that, but they still need an Open Beta, and they said it's going to be longer than FFXI's OB.

So I'm expecting an October of November release date in 2010.

me neither. I never saw they listed "Spring 2010" as release date.
By the way, they said that they've only done 45~50% work done when they had interview during Gamescom Germany 2009. Therefore, it indicates that they've still got a long way to go. I wonder if they can announce the close beta test on time. (according to the old interview, they said that the CBT will be held before end of this year)

They might just eventually aim for the date of school vacation as well since they said that they gonna start the service same day for every country.

Maybe Summer or Winter vacation?

Don't hold your breath for a spring release. Like others were saying the game is currently ~50% complete. and FF13 is due out in early 2010 in NA anf EU. I'm sure even if 14 were ready in spring thats too close for FF13s sales to peak.

Even though FF 13 and 14 are two differnt types of games; gamers who aren't aware of the MMO idea might pass up on 13 and buy 14 since it's the next progression in the series. (probably a very rare situation).

In reality SE would want sales from 13 to peak and fade then realse 14 for a steady flow of revinue.

So i'm guessing a fall or winter realse for 14. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a December holiday launch.

First of all, 55% is a lot further along than you think. Considering how fleshed out the Gamescom demo was, it's obviously progressed well beyond building blocks of the game.

Second, no company uses the same percentage designator towards completion. SE's 55% is not the same as anyone else's. 60% might be their goal for CB testers. Aside from whatever percentage they're comfortable with using, closed beta often is only 65-75% of a completed game anyhow. That's why the selection process is dramatically more stringent for those who participate outside of the company's testing crew.

I'd venture that the opening days of Summer 2010 is the latest we'll see a release. Closed beta won't last more than a couple of months, and even tacking on a four-month open beta puts it in that timeframe.

FF13 has nothing whatsoever to do with FF14. Same company, two totally different target markets. Only overlapping of these two is promotional manpower/resources by the same people, which also speaks to a mid-year release. FF13 hubbub will be dying down by then.

If FFXIV comes out September 25th next year (my birthday), I will easily crap myself in happiness.

This.

This is what I've been saying. I've been in marketing my whole life, and followed video game marketing as well. I can tell you as a fact, the two biggest times people spend money (aside from black thursday in America) is at Christmas, and in the summer. People like spending money in the summer, because they are in a mind frame of "fun and recreation". Once school hits they concentrate more heavily on their jobs and education.

Now, no one knows for sure, we're all just guessing, but my educated guess would be a release some time in the summer of 2010. As for Beta, I am making a even more educated guess on that. DirectX11 graphics cards are said to be released anywhere from the next 2-3 months from what I'm hearing (ATI 5800 series, and Nvidia 300 series).

There's a good chance Square Enix will wait till those are released, and soon after start the beta testing so they can utilize DirectX11. Now, this is just a educated guess, but it seems plausible. One way or another, I would guess for Beta to start some time around the end of this year.

Also, as other people have said, 50% done means they have the bulk of the game designed and created. What they are doing now is simply adding things in, fixing bugs, polishing off graphics/movements/dynamics/AI etc. The next 50% will be a lot shorter than the first. Square Enix has been working on FFXIV for the last four years, so if you went by that logic, it would be another 4 years before FFXIV was released.

So, TL;DR. The best guess I would count on would be end of the year Beta, Summer 2010 Release.

I've never seen any official source name this as a spring release.

They haven't gotten into the Alpha stage yet, to the best of my knowledge. Then they'll have a closed Beta, close down to work on discovered issues, and then an open beta that from dev comments sounds like will run for at least a cpl months.

They'll definitely give themselves wiggle room as well with the release date, meaning they won't announce the game for an august release just because they're pretty sure it will be ready by then. They'll end up putting as much extra time as they can into the schedule to deal with the myriad of problems that come out in the various Beta stages.

When I saw the announcement at E3, I figured a November release, and I'd still be mildly surprised if the game comes out before then. If they announce a release date before Sept. 1, I'd be floored.

I'm thinking FFXIV will be around September 2010, unfortunately. It'll probably be more like early 2011.

Wow, it's 2009 still? How depressing.

Considering SE has repeatedly stated that they want a lengthy beta, Fall 2010 would be my guess for the most likely release date.

'50% graphics' means most all of the rough modeling has been done, and they're on the polishing and refining stage of the pipeline.

I don't think I've ever wanted to be part of a beta as bad as I do for this game.

I also plan on uploading FFXIV music when the game is released.

I know, man! I've been doing everything I can to help boost my odds. I've updated my Square Enix ID, registered all my square games, make sure I keep logging into PSN... haha, it's so sad and desperate :X

i never expected a spring release for 2010, i mean i hoped but always thought it was unrealistic.

55% of the game done is not further a long than you think, just because there is a demo and regardless of how it looks means nothing. There is a whole host of different things including the rest of the world to create, to finalized ai writing and so on and so forth there is plenty.

This.
FF XIII will most likely be a Spring 2010 release. May 17 is six months after Japan's December 17 debut. My theory is that SE will give a full season, or six months, for FF XIII to sell. If my theory is correct, that would put XIV's release sometime in the month of November, just in time for the holiday shopping season.

I have a feeling October 28, 2010 will be the day it releases.

Reasons?
1. FFXI was released that same day in 2003 so I can see it releasing at that time like an anniversary.
2. SE is almost as bad with delays as Sony and Valve.
3. "6-8 months" from December 17, is May 17 - July 17 and FFXIV is supposed to come out after FFXIII so perhaps we'll be getting FFXIII over the summer and FFXIV mid-fall, toward christmas time.

Not sure what else to add but, I'm a bit pessimistic when it comes to companies like SE where they've delayed games in the past. Notoriously, FFXII.

I think once the Beta release of FFXIV is announced, we'll have 6 months of Beta testing prior to release. So it will be much easier to ascertain the launch date based on the Beta. However, my crystal ball says final quarter of 2010. FFXIV will make the Xmas holiday at the worst.

"when a beta test is ready then we will release it to the public then. FFXI had 3-4 months Beta, we hope FFXIV to get longer"

I think Spring 2010 was first mentioned because that is what the head bosses want - this years financial are going to really suck and they need to make money asap.

I suspect there maybe conflict between lean-we-go-to-gym-directors and yum-cake-nom-nom-developers on a release date.

The way I look at it, if it takes longer to get the game released, hopefully that means that there will be less chances of bugs when it does come out... too many MMOs get released before they are really ready (usually due to budget) and it ends up hurting them.
