Talks about no real jobs or classes, actions and attire defined by weapon equipped... makes me correlate the two a little.

Not really sure, just something i stumbled upon and thought was neat. The idea of weapon equipment determining the abilities was a pretty new idea to me, here is another utilizing the same idea:

One way that Microsoft could entice new consumers and justify the high price of Live is by offering free MMORPG subscriptions. Right now, there are no 'true' massively-multiplayer roleplaying games on either console, but there will be soon. Looming on the horizon is Sony's exclusive Final Fantasy XIV, which could prove to be even more important than XIII this generation. Microsoft would be smart to get some of its own original MMORPG titles up and running first. The Secret World looks like it could be just the game that Microsoft is looking for. While we don't know much about gameplay specifics yet, the title appears to have tremendous production values and could find wide appeal in the MMORPG space. Look for the company to be heavily promoting this new killer app this winter.

If it's free, I might play it. Otherwise, I'll hold out for FFXIV. The Secret World trailers look pretty sweet, though.

Are people getting paid to start socks and plug games on this forum, or do they just not have anything better to do?

isn't this being implemented by funcom the people who made Age of Conan? I love the concept but as before great idea and a sloppy implementation.

You know what, this is the first time I hear of this game and quite honestly, it looks pretty impressive...atleast very cool idea for a game, although I'm not sure how they'll deliver when its all said and done, but i'll be keeping my eyes out for it. But I want to say that FFXI went to the Xbox 360 as I'm sure you all know, and they made us charge for a Playonline ID just as you all know or would've guessed, on top of the Xbox Live Gold Membership...so why would this game be an exception? I doubt they'll make it a free MMO, and if they do it'll be at the expense of in game advertisements, or microtransactions, or a combination of both, which in my opinion makes an MMO trash...so i hope they charge monthly to play it.

Hey, thanks for the comments and the great find jollyjokers.

As far as being a "sock" and plugging games because i dont have anything else better to fill my time...

...Honestly, I've been browsing this forum for a long time, I played FFXI early on in the release and always relied upon Alla for the utmost information pertaining to the game...

Bringing something to light, the fact that this other game seems to be implementing the same weapon based "class" system...and possibly through information and progression of this game we can learn, or possibly see something we previously haven't thought of as game advertisment mongering is absurd.

I found it interesting...and i wanted to share something that i thought was neat. Simple as that.

Didn't think this community as harsh to default me, and criticize over something as small as that.

True.

However, since the release of PS3 Slim, sales have increased by %1,000, and are believed to hold steady through the holiday season. Microsoft has lowered the costs of the XBOX 360 Elite to $299, but yanked the HDMI cord from the package. Add $70.00 for wireless wifi. Add $40.00 for XBOX Gold Live. Add $40.00 for a decent HDMI cable. Suddenly, the PS3 starts to look more attractive to consumers, now that the free Playstation Network has almost as many features as a paid subscription of XBOX Live. If Microsoft wants to remain in 2nd place, they'll have to either drop the price of XBOX Live Gold, which I doubt they'd ever do, or add new perks and incentives to remain a loyal customer. One way to do that would be to offer free MMORPG service as a perk of being a Gold member.

I never played FFXI on Xbox but I'm pretty sure you didn't have to have Gold membership. You could play FFXI with the free Silver membership.

You can, indeed, play FFXI on a silver membership. The issue most people have is that they already own a gold account for other games, and that is SUPPOSED to cover all their online gaming fees. They pay twice in that scenario. Thanks alot M$.

HAHAHA thats not a sock thats a Funcom Dev desperate to drum up support for their next trainwreck. They've lost all credibility and this is what they've resorted to plug their games.

Maybe not but still it's a funny thought.

The Secret World is being made by a different dev team in Funcom than Age of Conan, and the leader of it admits to all of the problems that Age of Conan had. Age of Conan had some great aspects. If they learned from their mistakes, with a new dev team even, then The Secret World could prove to be an AMAZING game.

I doubt it honestly. AO had many of the same problems AOC did at launch an they didn't learn from AO.

Conceptually it looks great, and I like that it's trying to move away from generic fantasy settings. But then in the trailers I've seen the characters all end up using magic powers which pretty much destroys the idea for me.

Don't want to be pessimistic but I get the feeling it will fail

They did learn from their mistakes... the wrong lessons. AO must have taught them that they could release a bug ridden half completed game and still manage to keep it running for years. Hence AOC released as a bug ridden half complete game.

Of course not. And considering today is (/was) National Speak Like A Pirate Day, might I suggest a look at what is considered the most epic of Pirate tales? Or, at the very least, I have these fine leather jackets on sale ...

Such negativity. You guys seem forget that people held the same attitude without warrant for FFXI. I played Age of Conan for a few months and thought it was a lot of fun. The story was amazing, the places were vivid, and the quests were unique. It had bugs, sure, but they were never bad enough to make me stop playing. I also loved the combat system, as it was more than simply auto-attacking and more than button-mashing while still requiring you to think about your strategy like in FFXI. If many people still like Anarchy Online, so be it, and I highly doubt that The Secret World will be anything like Anarchy Online nor Age of Conan aside from the aspects that they got positive feedback about, in the same way that FFXIV will be nothing like FFXI aside from the good parts.

So far with TSW I've fallen in love with the trailers, races, concept, and story, and I will most definitely be playing it along with FFXIV, because yes, it is possible to play two MMOs without ******** about how one MMO is superior to all others.
