Aside from a few semi-juicy tidbits here and there, I feel like we haven't gotten any really good new info for months! But this Thursday, things get interesting!!

What do you guys think they'll talk about? Any thoughts on cool new revelations? I know we've all done our fair share of speculating, it's about time we're rewarded with some concrete new facts to drool over!!!

I imagine they won't reveal really anything, as per usual, and instead go on about how much work it is to produce such a large game. And don't misunderstand, I don't really have a problem with that.

I do, however, want them to just come out and tell us more about how the crafting system is going to work. It's really the only thing I personally care about.

I want concrete info on zones, cities and classes/skillsets. I'm tired of speculation and as a result most of the forum makes me facepalm.

Zackary, what makes you think they won't be revealing much? I mean, I know SE likes to be mysterious, but this is possibly the only large scale event for them to release information before the release of the game (assuming it will be out in the next year). (Also, you from Chicago? I know that band, `I Fight Dragons` and I've played at Martyr's).

I would also love some crafting info... but since it sounds like crafting will be just as indepth as any of the other classes, I'm guessing we won't get a ton of crafting information until we get info on ALL the classes (not that I'd mind all that info!)

What I'm hoping for is more info on classes and combat. Generally I don't get too much into crafting but if the system is good enough I might so it would be nice for some info on that. A date for the beta would be nice too.

There are other places they can release more info for FFXIV in the near future. The next Final Fantasy Fanfest, Decembers Jump conference (SE always does stuff for that occasion in regards to FF releases) GDC if they "have" to etc. TGS is supposed to be focusing on FFXIII and the Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep release, everything else is supposed to second in exposure. If they put out too much on Final Fantasy XIV it would mitigate some of the space and time they want dedicated to FFXIII at their TGS booth.

Secondly they seem to have something new on FFXIV every other week now in Famitsu and other publications in Japan. So much so that they probably feel there really is no need to hold a single huge event for FFXIV outside of discussing a beta client. At this point we probably won't get a deluge of information, and just take details as they come.

Also I severly doubt we will get truely concrete details on gameplay mechanics till we get closer to an open beta or final release. The very nature of alpha testing is test ideas in a private server that are far from finalized. Skill sets, amount of armor variety and general details on crafting and gathering will probably never go beyond broad concepts rather than refined details. They will only say what they 'hope' the system will accomplish because they are still ironing out exectly how they will work and it gives them the room by not saying anything on the details so they can change it without much reprecusions.

SE never releases information the way other Studios do. We are talking about a company that invites the press into a huge private mega theater but forbids them to take pictures or film anything, then shows them the premier trailer of a new game, which is viewable to the public months later. Yeah... you journalists, just write very creatively about the 600 man hours put in to rendering that amazing trailer!

I was honestly shocked that there was a playable demo of FFXIV at GamesCom. They have also allowed a multitude of pseudo journalists (Blogs and even Community sites) to do Q&A's, which is new. Seems to be a bit more of an accessible if not grassroots way of promoting their game this time around.

As for TGS, I think their will be a lot of focus on the Portables with FFXIII coming in second then lastly some FFXIV stuff refocus the crowd. No word on a if it will be playable.

Here is the Square Lineup btw:

There are just 3 things I really want more information on or want to see.

1. Character creation/customization
2. Jobs and their corresponding weapons
3. Information on excepted beta dates

But I'm really just expecting a short video showing more combat, various zones, and some monsters.
I have a feeling we're at least another month away from huge announcements or information about a beta or character creation.

Anyone thinking this game will be out before November 2010 is deluding themselves. SE has all of next year to release information, they aren't about to tell you everything, or even very much anytime soon.

I don't think it's delusional at all. They've stated that they want a 7 month beta period (approximately) and there are rumors aplenty that a beta will start this month (though we are running out of time). But even if a beta doesn't start for another couple months, it could still be out summer 2010.

I agree wholeheartedly. SE really hurts themselves when they refuse to market their products properly. They don't promote their games nearly as much as they should and so the majority of people who play the games are SE fans or FF fans. If they want to reach more people they need to advertise more.

They are doing a lot of interviews but mainly for Japanese magazines...they really need to start talking to some American and European magazines and game sites if they expect FFXIV to get any players outside their normal player base.

Im downloading it now to check, but I think the TGS2009 trailer for FFXIV is up on the JPN PSN. Its part of the TGS09 compiliation Vol.4. Will post back and tell everyone if its new or the old trailer.

Edit:
Im watching the package now and although I can't confirm FFXIV yet, for those interested in Team Ico newest game should check it out :) they are show casing in far more than trailer form the Last Guardian from behind the scenes stuff to new footage.

Edit2: OH **** YEAH! Its the trailer guys go the JP PSN to get it. Some amazing looking footage.

Edit3: Just finished watching it, the in game sequences look flat out AMAZING. There was some definite FMV (Full Motion Video or CG as some like to call it) but you could tell what was in game from the aliasing. If it wasn't for the aliasing I would have thought it was still FMV it was THAT good looking, the animation looks astounding all around too.
