I know this would never happen but lets say "what if" SE offered some sort of discount on FF11 subscription for full subscription on FF14 ?

I know there are myraid of reasons SE wouldnt do this and just logistical problems, first come to mind is the fact that the two games will have two seperate payment systems.

But I am curious of what the community would think if this did happen. Would this convince anyone to play both that wouldnt of before ? I honestly cant think of any other way to keep FF11 active atleast in the way SE thinks it will be post rapture.

Yes.

Also, all they'd need to do is make it so you still set up your total bill tally for FFXI (Content IDs and all that) with POL, but actually pay for it using the system they are setting up for FFXIV.

This isn't really that bad an idea, I'd be very tempted to keep my FFXI account active if it dropped to half price (say) when bundled. If it's not, and I end up spending 95%+ time in FFXIV, why would I retain the FFXI account?

Seems like a smart move on SE's part, imho.

who would have the time to play both of these?

This is a good idea. They have said that they won't be using POL for FFXIV, but that doesn't mean they can't still link billing if they choose to do so.

Best case scenario: FFXIV comes out and I buy an additional content ID for my now renamed Final Fantasy Online account, and create a character in FFXIV using that spare content id.

Too good to be true? most likely, sure, but it would be convenient to have them on one bill and save some money at the same time.

That is one of the things I was wondering when I was making this thread. I done duo MMO before its no small task to do more then a single MMO at a time. But from what SE been saying it almost like they expect people to. So I was curious if they had a incentive would they attempt to play both. So far it seems like there is a good number of people who would.

I for one wouldnt do both unless it was ridiculously cheap like 3$. And even then I wouldnt be positive.

If this happened, I would play both games.
At the same time.

Oh, and if it were Blizzard making it, they would, but it's not, so in yo face.

I would probably keep playing XI as long as they released new content if they did this. Not very often, but enough to pay a couple extra bucks for it.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I have a lot of friends who don't plan to make the switch, so I'd like to have access to both games if it's affordable.

When I first heard that they wanted both games to be running side by side, I thought the same thing. Why wouldn't they want the 12.95 x 2 (or 1.5)?

I think it's a good idea but sadly I wouldn't expect to see something like that in place until they reduced operating costs on XI. Once development stops and the only costs are lease/space and maintenance of the servers.

Obviously they expect to make money off of both of them? It's just a business decision. They need to at least make something off of XI, since they can't simply shut the servers down with 200+ thousand people still on them.

I mean, I'm pretty sure that's all it comes down to. Until the cheap/stubborn people stop playing, of course they're going to keep trying to nickle and dime XI for what it's worth. At least enough so that it'll pay for itself.

If i remember correctly SE stated that POL will not be used for FFXIV. So though i am sure they could package the deal somehow they just wont and come out with this reason that POL will not be used for the new MMO.

there was an interview in which one of the devs said they had wanted to make a doorway in the ffxi mog house that would act as a portal to ffxiv. can we all agree that would be ************ awesome? while we're at it we can also agree that it will never happen.

I believe they stated later on that they said that they no intention now or in the future to go after this. It was more less just fantasizing on the devs part.

EDIT: The way you phrased your above post it sounded like you didnt know that SE said "Its not going to happen"

$20 for both would be fine. Anything over $25 would be a rip-off, I think. Time restrictions aside, it'd basically let SE milk the people who just can't bring themselves to close their accounts even though they may be playing other games right now.
