FFXIV TGS 2009 Trailer now availible for Download on JP PSNFollow

I posted it in the other TGS thread but I thought I should make a topic for it so more people know about it. Its in the JP PSN in their TGS page and its VOL.4 its the second trailer on it. The footage looks flat out amazing especially the in game stuff.

Edit: Since it seems so many are complaining, its only for those who have a PS3. I will edit this page when other sites have the trailer for those who only have a PC.

Edit2: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/ now up there.

So you made a dedicated subject about a video, without providing a link or download to the video...?

This is only for those that have a PS3, how am I supposed to supply a link for something that doesn't exist on the PC? Besides im sure its only a matter of time before the main site has it up. I only wanted people to know that have a JP PSN account availible thats its up, what were you expecting with the title I put up where it says clearly "JP PSN".

Well how about as you did in your previous post, include the words "for those of you with a ps3". If we don't have a PS3, we probably won't know what a JP PSN is. Not all of us read about consoles just because we use PCs ya know.

Nifty. Here's hoping that it actually looks that nice while playing. That ship and the malboro were awesome, and I liked a lot of the clothing. Also: BACKPACKS. Badass.

Visible backpacks and packs on chocobos that have set amounts of storage space would be pretty neat IMO.

Did anyone else notice how expressive the Roegadyn's (Galka's) face was @1:25, when he was walking by the Mithra sitting on the grass?

I think want to be a Roegadyn now!

And yes, I stream captured the video in HD, so that's how I know what time in the video the Roegadyn looks up and has that sad concerned expression.

So... not to thread crap, but to me the only part that looked like in-game footage was the part where they are fighting on the boat.. and they were fighting the same enemy we say in the previous trailer. Everything else was pre-rendered CG or cut-scenes using the game engine.

I'm still think it's a nice trailer, and we can deduce there will probably be backpacks. I still have an empty feeling in that we could of seen a lot more in-game footage.

For those that didn't watch all the way through the NA trailer, it seems they will give out beta information through the FFXIV newsletter when it becomes availible, so if you havn't registered yet you might want to.

Cut-scenes using in game assets = in game no matter how you look at it. FFXI's visuals didn't even change dramatically during Cut-scenes because it couldn't be pre-rendered and the reason it couldn't be pre-rendered is because it had to render the player character into the scene including whatever armor he/she is wearing. Anything with aliasing (and about half of it had aliasing) should be what we can expect for in game graphics including gameplay. The boat scene at the beginning (**** anything on the boat including the canon shot towards the end) and the cliff area outside of Limsa-Lominsa should be in game and not just use in game-assets because they can't pre-render for every mix-match combination a player uses on screen.

The very first shot of the tavern was obviously in-game, as well as the shot with the ship and the cliffs.

#26Cyiode, Posted: Sep 23 2009 at 10:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It might have been using in-game graphics, but the character motions may not be ones that would actually be controllable by a human player in the game. For example the Lalafell sitting on the table and chatting, people sitting at tables, and then the male Hyur doing stuff with cards on the table. Somehow I doubt these types of actions are going to be allowable by human players, so I just consider them cut-scenes using the in-game graphics engine.

Understandable, I was simply correcting your assumption that in-game cutscene footage and pre-rendered footage should be grouped together by a single label.

You want to see gameplay footage, although I expect that the tavern in the first shot will probably be what the place will be like in-game while playing (The NPCS, at least.)

Oh my god. That trailer is amazing. I think this will be the best FF music since FFX. I reaaaaallly like the last song, it brings me back to older FF titles =DDDDD. I cannot wait. I'm guessing the ingame graphics will be like the tavern area/ the ship battle part.

Graphics are looking really good, but what I'm really thirsting for is more info about what I can do in Eorzea. My favorite part of the trailer was when it said that Eorzea was actually tucked away in a small corner of the world, which just turned my sense of adventure on and into overdrive. This concept will leave lots of room for awesome expansions.

Things I learned from the trailer:

1. There won't be any "new" races.
2. Thieves will be a playable class in FFXIV.
3. My 3 years as a Mithra are over.( I just don't like the ears)

I really agree with this - I hope they follow that idea and we actually have to spend some time exploring parts of the world that are huge.

I wonder who "The Twelve" are? Knights of the round? Classic Summons such as Shiva and Ifrit?

Also, Nymeia the Spinner sounds like a goddess / lore story, very excited for all the new lore of this game!

I wouldn't give up on the mithra quite yet, who knows, maybe the character creation will allow you to adjust how their ears look to a certain degree.

Those graphics were just plain amazing. And I'm 100% they were in game renders most of the time.

The music was great, and I think the end part might be our new battle music, as I'm pretty sure it was the same track you could faintly hear in the GC videos.

And at the end on the website... "For Beta test details visit the officil website and subscribe to the FFXIV newsletter" is that a hint!?

Either way, long story short, excitment levels: UP!

The breakdown for in-game versus pre-rendered kind of goes like this:

0:22 - 0:34 (Tavern scene): in-game
0:36 - 0:45 (Boat scene): in-game
0:49 - 1:18 (Guild area): pre-rendered
1:19 - 1:31 (Galka/Mithra scene): in-game
1:39 - 1:47 (Battle music kicks in): pre-rendered
1:49 - 1:50 (Battle sequence on boat): in-game
1:52 - 2:00 (The rest): pre-rendered

I'm curious as to how much pre-rendered stuff we're going to see in the game.

Honestly, I would not be terribly apposed to a good deal of pre-rendered material. It can't be done with any scene that your character takes part in, but I've always liked having something shiny and glossy occasionally. I can't wait until real-time rendering can catch up to pre-rendered material. The problem is just how long it takes to calculate for field effects and particle effects.

But I digress, in reference to the list above I'm not entirely convinced the Molboro fight is in-game. That bad breath attack looks a lot like a particle effect (which cannot be rendered in real time with current technology).

That's because it isn't. The malboro sequence starts at 1:52, which if you look at my list, falls under pre-rendered.

I was hoping someone else might confirm what I was also thinking... my assumption comes from the Mithra wielding a dagger on the boat, I'm curious to hear yours?

Also, at about 1:04 into the trailer... it looks to me like there are spear heads sticking out behind the Taru.

Dragoon like attack skills anyone?

Most of this trailer is using the in-game engine. Sure, its all cut-scene and theatrical but its still what the game is going to look like graphically.

The Roegadyn and Miqo'te on the grassy cliff as they look into the sky was amazing and a great great great example of how they will look in-game. Especially since we haven't really had much in-game exposure to those two races.

I am very impressed by the trailer.

Don't know if anyone else pointed this out yet (I did glance over the thread for it, don't hate me) but in the bar scene everyone except for the Lafell and the armor guy are wearing practically the EXACT SAME OUTFIT but in different shades. Since they've alread said crafters will be able to dye their stuff I'm assuming we're seeing some of the variety available to crafters at an early stage in its development.

I don't want to be a negative nancy, but so far I have not seen any backpacks or cloaks in any of the in-game rendered parts of the trailer, it is still very possible they wont have backpacks or cloaks, considering not one person had a backpack or a cloak in that opening scene with the taru macking on the hume. It is easily a possibility but I wouldn't count chickens to fast. Also no notice of jewelry representation.
