The Tokyo Game Show has come and gone and many Final Fantasy XIV fans are disappointed by the lack of information. We knew from the start that Final Fantasy XIII was going to be the big focus, but browsing the forums reveals a lot of hopeful players that left wanting more. We did receive a few things, however, that may hide more information than it appears at first glance.

Read the article here.

Thank you for mentioning the big-*** massive THING in the last few frames. At first, I thought it was a huge dragon, but I'm pretty sure it's just a very, very large airship. It's red/crimson too, so maybe this is another allusion to the "crimson veil" that's falling over Eorzea?

It kinda reminded me of the Imperial airship Alexander in FFXII.

A green Roegadyn and another one with a Mr. T inspired mohawk. I like it. Smiley: smile

In the opening scene, we see two people prominently featured in the foreground having a chat. One is seen from the front, and another from the back. I believe this may be a clever way to show off a complete outfit. Looking at the patterns, it is easy to see the styles are the same on both men. We also know that crafters will be able to customize the color of the gear they produce. I think this shot here is a confirmation that fact, clearly showing two identical outfits with different color schemes.

Nice find Elmer, I didn't notice that those two people were wearing the same armor set the first time I saw the trailer.

I'm definitely relieved that SE is allowing crafters to adjust color palettes this time around.

Heh... loved the Castlevania II reference at the end :) Interesting read and bit of speculation, though. I look forward to seeing just how much of it is true!

That last pic demonstrates just how talented and creative the FFXIV team is. It really looks like they're in it to win it and I'm confident we're in for a real treat next year.

Elmer your observations are razor sharp. Thanks for pointing out many of the details SE was trying to communicate to us in this trailer. Hopefully people will be happier with FFXIV's showing at TGS now.

You know, I want to get all giddy about this (in fact, I did when I first watched it). But part of me feels like all these conclusions (or just observations) made about the trailer are trying to hard. They didn't release any good info, so we're taking what we can get and doing what we've been doing all along: making our own assumptions about what's up.

That said, I think the analysis of this video by Elmer is nothing short of amazing. This is the kind of in-depth attention to detail that was expected back in college, reading poetry that seemingly spoke of trees but was really about the French Revolution.

Nicely done, sir.

I'm still sort of disappointed that we have to nitpick at a trailer to satisfy our lust for info. They should have thrown us SOME sort of bone to chew on.

There is quite of bit of information available from various interviews. You just need to dig around a little. ;)

The wiki at the top of the board has quite a bit, and also links to blogs such as http://eorzea.blogspot.com/ that give some nice info.

That trailer showed very little new information. I mean more like better info in an interview, or an interesting announcement or something. That trailer was pretty but thats about it. The fact that Elmer had to pull it to pieces to get any info out of it (and most of it was nothing more than speculation) only goes to show that. Good looking trailer? Yes. New info about the game that keeps people hooked? Disappointing.

For crying out loud, its Tokyo Game Show!!! I've read the previous interviews and thats all well and good, but this is THE venue to make a big announcement and they didn't. I'm sorry, but thats just sad.

I think we'll see SE drop the bomb at E3 in 2010. Beta, cost to play, launch classes, PvP if any, and anything else we might be inquiring to know. So far, SE has promised an international release only displaying a demo in Germany so far. FFXIV has English voice overs only, no Japanese. FFXIV is only targeting the hardcore Final Fantasy crowd, but the 'causal' crowd as well. It stands to reason that SE isn't following their standard protocol. Maybe it's all a coincidence, but it's possible the breaking news will happen on American soil. Anyone else see a different side of SE with FFXIV?

As for the trailer analysis, I'm not sure I wish to speculate just yet. I definitely agree that our position of our character will be very important. I guess one could call it the next generation of SA/TA mechanics. All I know is we need a solid system to fight waves of mobs without the crutch of Sleepga II. We need more defensive tools than gimpy shadows. I want total control of blocking my shield or parrying the blow. That seems to be the direction SE is going judging by the info we have already. The removal of the Auto attack setting was the clue.

Under the Game menu
Playstation Store
無料体験版・PV

Should be a big banner on the left for Tokyo Game Show 2009 or you can use the folder for it within the set of icons to the right.

Then click the red PS3 Video icon

FFXIV Trailer is bundled inside TGS09 MOVIE Vol. 4
