Hey Everyone,

Was doing some fishing earlier on FFXI and started thinking about possible changes to the current PvP options that could be translated into FFXIV as a minigame.

What if there were options for matches with the following gametypes:
(all types would have a min. requirement of two teams)

Assassin - Team captains or system selects one player to be their assassin target. If your target is KO'd your team is removed. Team with the most kills wins

Last man on the Hill - Last team standing within a range of the flag/hill/ball wins.

King of the Hill - Team with the most time controlling the flag/hill/ball wins.

Territories - Same as Last man on the Hill but with multiple flags/hills/balls. Owner with the most under control at the end of the time period wins.

etc,etc.

Thoughts?

Reminds me of a lot of minigames that a different poster explained from WoW. From what I've read I think that it would be more of a type of sport rather than an actual PvP.

It probably is. I was thinking about Myth II actually (an old Bungie RTT game).

As for it being more sport like, that could be part of the fun factor that is missing from time to time.

I was actually a big fan of Blitzball in FFX and I had a ton of fun coaching it in FFX-2. I highly doubt it would be in here though XD

When I saw the card game was going to be packed in with FFXI I was all excited, and figured the two would interact...

I'd rather they just left out the pvp. Imo PVE games that try to shoe in pvp tend to do it badly. City of Heroes and WoW are great examples of pve games that shoe horned in lame and meaningless pvp. I prefer my pvp to have tangible objectives and rewards that affect the gameworld around you. Like Eve or Shadowbane pvp.

I'm not expecting or asking for amazing PvP. Just to be able to do crappy little duels would be enough to satisfy me.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I found it pretty sad that the minigame was more interesting and much more fun than the actual game itself.

I would burn down a convent for SE to implement a card game into XIV.

I had a hard time getting into Blitzball. I eventually did, but still not for long enough to get Wakka's uh, whatever it was. Ultimate weapon, limit break, or something.

I've been begging for a card game though. Preferably a good trading-card type game, rather than something more bare like Tetra Master and Triple Triad were.

What if they expanded with that tarut card quest from ffxi? They could throw in more cards and maybe even have a little den where people can go and play a mini game with eachother. I think if they implemented a card game they would need to have a centralized area for it or else it will just die out.

Blitzball was fun. I think some team based minigames where players levels or skills don't matter would be nice to pass the time.

But when SE said they had a limit on the amount of skills they could use instantly reminded me of Guild Wars and there balanced PVP.

I kind of found ballista fun in principle... adding a bit more rewards/ making it more flexible (a la WoW battlegrounds, perhaps) would've done wonders for it.

I don't want XIV to be pvp, but having a pvp game like ballista would be fun. I don't think it should be required or force a person to participate.

Card game would be win. Blitzball would probably be fun with other people, but I didn't like X or blitzball in it -.- actually the blitzball bits were pretty irritating..... but I suppose I'm in the minority on both of these?^^

I do share the disappointment of the above poster who thought the card game would be like, a part of the game... ._.;

You know, chocobo racing would actually be pretty fun if it was vs. other people and if you could ride and control your own chocobo.

...You left out Warhammer Online...where PVP is necessary to take control of zones, the whole game revolves around PVP.
