tl;dc version: Doesn't contain corny suggestions for gameplay or rants about RMT or billing errors. Just PC-related geek stuffs.

As topic says, these are things I'd like to see happen with FFXIV (PC version), which may or may not be what you all are hoping for but bite me:

UNICODE compliant! GEEZ IME out of the box without the use of quirky third party solutions that violate ToS and reportedly result in bannings {Yes please.}

Also how about a software client that doesn't SHUT DOWN when the connection is lost?! WTF leave the screen up and let us log back in for chrissakes!

No proprietary fullscreen, which never did anything but harass legit players and monopolize our PCs?

Let's give EVERYONE built-in IME? Not just JPLand?

Organize the folder structure in a more intuitive way so we're not searching in /pub/usr folders for our screenshots/etc? Maybe make a FFXIV Pics folder in My Documents or something?!

Benchmarking/video capturing tools built in {Yes please.} Pretty standard feature these days..

Game specific AA/AF and advanced gfx options in-game?

In-game file browser?

More visually appealing, intuitive and convenient to use friends list with instant messenger/email/texting?

Way to share pictures, video clips and other game data through Flist (as above)?

V O I C E C H A T?! Using third party tools like teamspeak/vent/skype to coordinate endgame events or just hang out is so LAST CENTURY!

I'm not that big into the whole social networking thing, but I seem to be one of the steadfast few that's never touched Myspace/Facebook. I would consider a similar feature in FFXIV if it was well-integrated. I think SE would be drawing in customers and improving its tarnished image by marketing a fully featured built-in social networking interface in FFXIV.

Those are just off the top of my head but MAN what a completely different gaming experience XIV would give us with just that!

Sound off and throw in some ideas in here!

(Keep in mind this is just a PC feature brainstorm, not a general feature request, and that even if this is ever seen by SE, it will be ignored or a list of people in the thread will be collected for the purpose of moar random FFXI bans next banning cycle)

The only one in that list I truly want, but I'm pretty confident they'll have it. If they don't, I'll be at a loss of what to say, except for things that are cursewords.

Unicode-compliant would be nice though, and a videocapture device would be tops.

Ingame voicechat I'm not fond of, since it's almost guaranteed that it won't be as sophisticated as a program that's been designed for that primary function.

I'd personally like to see some more sophisticated patch update methods, so we don't bottleneck the update servers.

I was going to add that to the list, but it's already a given. SE stated they won't be using POL as the vehicle to deliver XIV. Which is a great thing. Dial-Up should die a quick but painful death in a vat of burning Jello.

Hey, I dug up a thread nearly a year old about me ******** about SE's sucky delivery method.

Which has references to threads 4 years old about people ******** about SE's sucky delivery method lol.

OH OH!

Can we make FFXIV DX10?! That way 8 years from now we'll be able to use workarounds to get it to work in Windows 9000.

I know it's going to be based on DX9, but since they've stated that graphics will be kept separate between the platforms, hopefully we'll be seeing some DX10 usage on the PC. Although, considering the giant population still using XP, it was wise business choice.

As long as they add some DX10-only functions. Doubt we'll be seeing any of DX11 in the near future, considering how few games even utilize DX10.

I'd like to see advanced dual screen support. For example, you can set one screen to show a map, while the other screen shows the main view. Or have one screen that just shows the chat window, and the other screen shows the main view. Monitors are so cheap these days that a lot of people have dual screens.

off topic but DX11 can be supported by both windows vista and 7 giving it a large market, and it also has the addition of a tessellator which can help to create approximate catmull-clark models, meaning smoother and more detailed models.
atleast 5 games already support it, including dirt 2, and the new upcoming alien vs predetor game.

I always wished that the updates in FFXI were like the ones in Guild Wars.

I would have thought the first thing a PC user would want out of FFXIV is that the game be based around the PC and not a console.

I liked playing FFXI on my PS2, but in the spirit of the PC user-base I just thought I would throw that one out there.

I utterly and completely disdain PC controls! A mouse is a webpage navigating tool; I can't fathom how people use it as a gaming device. The only reason FFXI has captivated me for all these years is that it has such a great console interface. If FFXIV doesn't support gamepads with the versatility that made FFXI
an instant classic, I'll just whip out a keyboard emulator and play the game that works the best with my gamepad lol.

I agree about using a game controller. I still have my old Gravis Gamepad Pro for my PC, but I never use it anymore. I don't think any PC games nowadays want to support gamepad controllers, just because not enough people have them.

But... I'm pretty sure it's possible to use a Wiimote or Xbox360 controller or PS3 controller on your PC, so that means that a lot of people do have access to a controller they can use on their PC.

Also, with more people using voice-chat, it's not as important to have quick access to a full keyboard.

PC Game Controller support in FFXIV, FTW!!!!!

As long as you can MINIMIZE THE **** GAME at the launch of FFXIV i'm not as worried about in game voip since it usually turns out to be be pretty bad, especially compared to a TS or Vent server. I would really like to see besieged/campaign type skirmishes return in XIV.

Something I'd like to see regarding the auction house system: instead of the AH of FFXI, something more guild-styled, where items are only available when players sell to an NPC. The sale price, and thus the purchase price are affected by supply and demand (perhaps with a cap and a minimum?). Some items in FFXI that were judged to be very valuable by the players made obtaining them out of reach for some people. RMT exploited items at some times...it might be a more 'balanced' method of implementing a player-based buy & sell system, as well as controlling the economy somewhat.
