Actual release date guesses?Follow

So when do you educated people predict the actual game will come out? Wasn't the beta supposed to be out in September but wasn't? Trying to get some feed back as I recently got back in to MMORPG after long break and tried WoW and I hit 80 in two classes woohoo, got 450 two prof, and the secondary in three lousy months (and I only play maybe 10-15 hours a week)... and ready to cancel account. WoW does not feel the void that FFXI left. But enought about that I could go on all day...

Does anyone think it will be out in 2010, I'm currently thinking more along the lines of a 2011 or later release considering they want to do more thorough beta testing then ffxi which i read they did for 4 months.

So should i just post on forums for the mean time (which i think would be more fun than Wow) and hope for a near future release or take the plunge back into ffxi from scratch with the collection release nov 20th?

Thanks for input in advance

There's threads like this all over the place, try checking a few pages back. But to answer your question, the general idea is that it will be out some time between summer and winter 2010. My personal guess for many different reasons is some time in the summer of 2010. The developers said they wanted to start beta testing before the end of 2009, so if that goes according to schedule and we see it start up around December some time, that would give you plenty of time till summer. Also when they say they want to do more thorough testing it doesn't necessarily mean they want to extend the testing time by a large margin.

You have to realize, people have already been waiting on and anticipating this game for awhile. Once you announce it officially, you can only go so long before you have to deliver the product or you lose money, especially with a MMORPG. I'm guessing beta will start around December some time and continue on through about April~June and that the game will be available some time around July~September. I doubt it will be a year from right now before it's actual release, and there still is the possibility the beta testing could start some time in November, while small. Usually when you announce a MMORPG or a expansion for one officially, it usually takes developers around a year or so to get it onto shelves, some times a bit longer, some times a bit less. Keep in mind, FFXIV was officially announced in June of 2009.

A lot of people say they will release it around Christmas of 2010 but I don't think it's going to get pushed back that far personally. I think they will release it a few months after the release of FF13 while people still have the "Final Fantasy Syndrom" and to keep with a trend. Another thing I've told people about marketing is, people spend money in the summer. Not as much as during Christmas, but it's normally the second best time of the year for selling a product. During the summer people have a mentality and sub-conscious geared towards recreation, and doing/buying fun things. Not to mention the obvious part of people being out of school and college.

All that being said? My personal opinion is that FFXIV will be released some time in Summer 2010.

I think it will be released in the fourth quarter of 2010. So they can polish the game before release, But thats my opinion.

The release date will be the day everyone stops makeing "When do you think beta will start" "how i do beta" "geam release date?" or "hey guiz lets think what the release date will be even though SE said it will be late 2010" threads.

In all honesty i'm sure it will be JP 2011 January 22 and everywhere else 2011 April 25 just cause its SE <3.

SE never said "Late 2010" and never have. They've just said "2010" so far. If they did say "Late 2010" even if it was going to be around that time, it would be really discouraging to people and a bad marketing move. Which is why they haven't said it. Also they said that it will be a simultaneous release worldwide.

Please check your information before you spread it.

Beta was never offically annoced, keep getting ppl to sign up for the news letter for beta info but nothing yet. As for the game itself i think late 2010 early 2011.

edit: wasn't clear enough on what "it" was.

Right, I got the second part was a joke, I was still addressing it as misinformation. It also sounded half jokingly at that. However the first part you interjected speaking of how SE said it would be late 2010 which makes you false and incorrect. I might be a jackoffasaur but at least I'm not stupid.

TBH, I wouldn't start really expecting it before Spring 2011. If beta was going to start this year, it would already have been announced.

I guess my question was more of when do the posters of this forum think:
1. beta testing will actually start
2. when game will release

We all have seen square push release dates back a lot (which i don't mind if it makes a better product)but I've seen articles saying beta was gonna be in sept... its nov now, and if they are saying 2010 release was that based on beta's starting when they had planned or when they plan now. So.. just wondering what you all think so I can base my decision on whether to return to ffxi during the wait period or stay on boring WoW (guess i can get a few more 80's and sell it).

Thanks for the replies those and additional info, I guess in the end we just have to cross our fingers and hope its complete as soon as can be.

I am a bit too busy at the moment to dig it up, but it was in one of the recent interviews. I don't believe it's the one at the Tokyo Game Show, I'm pretty sure it was one of the interviews from GamesCom. Again, they didn't say it would certainly start before the end of the year, they just said that was their goal and what they would like to push for.

Depending on progress, a month or two before, or after, SWTOR/STO.

SE won't want that much competition. Star Wars and Star Trek are such huge brands, SE won't want to try to compete with that.

Hopefully they won't rush it, because of this.

I always think it's gonna be released between Sept to Nov

reasons:

1. They want a longer beta than FFXI (FFXI was 4months?) so lets say FFXIV would be 6months
2. SE often push back the release dates on their products.
3. FFXI was released near Halloween.
4. Beta was not announced yet, and it's November already, I doubt it's gonna be started anytime in 2009.

so to sum it up...
Beta will start in 2010 and then plus the 6months beta(estimate), that will end somewhere in the summer.
and then to give the game a final polishing touch, i will guess sept will be earliest, but my bet is around Halloween

Just because they are planning to have it released in 2010 doesn't mean it will be.

Just as a comparison, Aion was first announced and previewed at the May 2006 E3 Expo. It took them 1.5 YEARS to get to a closed beta just for Korea and another year on top of that to get to an open beta. I don't expect XIV to take that long, but I know that it is possible.

If there was more information flowing regarding the races, features, crafts, etc., I would be optimistic about a summer release. The beta will probably run at least 4 months so unless they start it in first quarter of '10, I honestly think that we are looking at a winter release at best.

I believe FFXIV will be released in the final quarter of 2010. Prior to that, Beta should start around Apr-May time frame so that should be the indicator. At E3 next year, I'm almost 100% positive that FFXIV will go Beta around that time. Figure 5~6 months for Beta and then the official release. Judging by the lack of content and decent job updates for FFXI, I'd say most of SE's resources are burning the midnight oil on XIV, not XI.

How do you possibly make the leap from one to the other? There is no info on beta updates yet, none, zip, nada. How in **** can you possibly figure that means the beta will start this month or next?

The beta will likely be announced 1-2 months in advance of its start, so that leaves out this year. We will see things like "Sign up for a chance to play FFXIV Beta", or "Win a chance to play FFXIV Beta" (if its open) well before it begins.

As much as I'd like to see FFXIV in 2010, I seriously doubt we'll see it before Spring 2011, most likely late Spring.

And I personally think that SE is far more along than what they lead on. SE knows FFXI was a pretty good success IMO and are making the fans want it more and more till they can't stand it anymore, then BAM!!! Betcha didn't know they've already been beta testing for three years now! lol, nah j/k but seriously i expect it'll be sooner than what we expect amd i really hope that's the case...im having MMO withdrawals and the doctor says my future isn't pretty without more MMO action

P.S. I know it's off-topic, but wouldn't Oblivion be an awesome MMO?

Wasn't saying that necessarily...and actually WAR came a month or so before WotLK. Just saying if they don't time it right they could lose a lot of players, enough to make the first couple months of gameplay rather baron. WAR's major reason for it's demise was that they anticipated too many people so the servers were nearly empty at release. They later closed a number of servers to consolidate players into larger groups but by the time that happened it was too late. They lost their one chance of making a good first impression.

Such a shame...the game had so much potential.

But see most of the people that left FFXI for WoW werent the kind of people we enjoyed playing with that much anyways. I have a feeling this game will have about the same population levels of FFXI no matter when it comes out. If it attracts more great, if not so what, the smaller tight nit community of FFXI is what kept so many of us around for so long, no matter how frustrating some things got, such as nerfs and broken gameplay. Im sure if we had one of the larger communities like in WoW many of us would of left because of that stuff and no one would of noticed, where here whole Linkshells would ask where is XXX player?

::raises eyebrows::

That's a dangerous statement to make. Lots of folks left FFXI for WoW were really quite successful players but had left for a cavalcade of reasons you can't even begin to summarize, much less associate with incompetence or social unpleasantness.

Heck, I'm one of those players that left FFXI and ended up playing WoW somewhere down the line. I left during ToAU, because I'd viewed the advent of Colibri as the destruction of the skillchain and thought the game was becoming too casual(!) Some years later I'd toyed around with WoW, penultimate in casual. Why? Because I had some friends and family playing - themselves former FFXI players. Eventually WoW taught me to eat my words about casual games, but returning to FFXI wasn't really an option. I felt like I had already done it, my memories were satisfying and I was content to leave it at that and explore other MMOs.

That might work to their advantage, too. Instead of having laggy, overcrowded servers for the first couple of months, starting small and then building from there might work much better in the long run. If the game is good, it will attract more players no matter what.

That's quite a bad business decision to make in the first place, though.. why waste money on more servers if there might not even be enough players to fill them in the first place? A bit too few servers would be better than a bit too many. You can always add more.

I would love to Oblivion as a MMO. It would be a blast. But thinking of the release date is it the date for Japan?
Square said the release is worldwide. So everyone gets it at the same time.

He could be talking about FFXIII...in which case the march 2010 date is the date for everyone but japan...japanese release date is in december.

The FFXIV date is supposed to be a global release but I believe they said the same thing for FFXIII...so who knows.

I say it will be released on about 2017.
Fourth quarter of 2011, summer of 2012, spring of 2013, good friday of 2010 or after the breakfast of labor day 2014.
All these dates seem way to long.
I dont want the game rushed out either but (call me crazy) i wonder if i will live long enough to even get to play this game.

So when do you educated people predict the actual game will come out? Wasn't the beta supposed to be out in September but wasn't?

I'll take this in two parts:

The "September Beta" date: This was nothing more than a rumor that was perpetuated by other Final Fantasy fan sites. The rumor was created by someone who saw a job posting on SE's European site. SE was hiring game masters and game testers, which obviously meant the beta was starting in September. Only it didn't.

My release guess: With Final Fantasy XIII set for a spring 2010 release, I'm going to guess that FFXIV won't be released until July or August at the earliest. I think SE would be smart to capitalize on the summer months, when hardcore gamers tend to have more time to lounge around playing games. Then again, this is SE we're talking about, so an October or November release date may be even more likely. I just don't see the game being released so close to FFXIII, especially when SE has tried so hard to market each game separately.

May want to double check that pre-order. Isn't that the release date for FFXIII?
