Things from previous FF's that you'd like to see in XIV.Follow

Ok, so lots of people have said what they want from XI, and what they DON'T want from XI.. and a couple of posts people have said what they want from other FF's. I've not seen a dedicated thread to it though, because I'm sure there's a lot that SE could include.

Here's my thoughts:

- Chocobo racing (PvP)
- PROPER Chocobo Hot & Cold (instanced)
- Tetra Master, Triple Triad (yes, both. Why not?)
- Moomba's!
- A snow town
- Magitek Armor (I think this is semi-confirmed?)
- If we're getting a zone-free world, monsters in the sea/sky.

I'm sure there's more................

Worthwhile villains. Heroes and adventurers are worthless without some evil doer with lofty goals of their own.

Good point. The XI villains never really cut it for me.

Ability Point system like in ff9, would be nice to equip traits or possibly powers using AP.

In all honesty, for me it's really quite simple. I'm easy to please when it comes to rpg's. Need proof? I liked ff8 (insert slappage here). Wasn't my favorite, but I still enojoyed playing it.

I just stopped playing xi about 2 months ago. Ultimately, what made the game fun for me was you ppl. Sure, the rapid heartbeat of the NM fight and the gratification of CoP were unsurpassed. But, if I had accomplished the plethora of things by myself, it wouldn't have been the same. Not even close.

I've been dabbling with Aion for a few weeks with my best friend who bought it for me. I wanted a break from mmo's until xiv, but I couldn't tell him 'no' since he lives out of town. I've heard from friends and forums how the playerbase is noticeably different on ffxi from other mmo's. It's very easy to see.

I'm one of the many who enjoyed the party-oriented grind. Just becuase that's when I met most of the friends I made. Sure, I met the occassional a-hole. But, the friends and acquaintances I made far outnumbered them.

While I'm enjoying Aion, I'm lvl 15 now and haven't met a single person ig (There was this one guy who said "U NO HOW TO DO DIS". I assume he was asking how to fly.) That's the closest I've gotten. It doesn't feel to me at all like an online game. Spoiled by ffxi? Probably.

My main point was that I'm easy to please with rpg's. The one fail-filled factor is the community of xiv. It's the only thing that bothers me. I hope there's still a feeling of unity and it's not every person for themselves.

I know this has been addressed before, but **** I'm bored sittin here at work. I hate mondays -.-

A strongly paced main storyline. IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, and X (didnt play IX and XII sort of failed at this) (all them kitase directed FFs) had strong pacing to the main storyline that moved you from set piece to set piece. All of this was before the phrase 'set piece' was tossed around in this industry. One moment you're trying to defeat Ifrit to pass your field exam then the next you're running away from a giant mechanical spider. Each one of these games started with a bang, instead of long winded exposition. And the pacing was brisk enough to keep you engaged yet feel like it was much longer and methodical than it actually was.

FFXI's storylines was one that i never got around to appreciate fully. The pacing of the storylines (the first one anyway. ) was hindered by the amount of time to look for groups, and to level inbetween. Regular FF fans should be able to enjoy the main storyline at least. That does not mean that the missions or quests should be any easier, but better intergraded to normal playstyle.

There should also be some more interesting set pieces this time around. Maybe throw in a giant mechanical spider type of deal where your main objective is to run away and survive rather than destroying it. More Interaction with NPC's would be interesting when it comes to quest. And i hope for some honest puzzles within guild leeves.

I've come to notice this kind of stuff when i downloaded FFVII on the psn store. The writing is okay, the controls outdated, and the battles are slow, but it still kept you moving from situation to situation.

In a word, creativity. All of this is from FFVI:

  • A castle that can bury itself and travel underground

  • A quest/mission involving a ghost train taking away the dead

  • Fighting the engine of that train while it's moving

  • Fighting a haunted painting

  • An opera house with a great opera scene and a battle on the stage

  • A floating continent raised right out of the ground

  • A town under seige, where you have to sneak around and find secret passages to escape

  • Entering someone's dream to fight an inner demon

  • Fighting enemies while falling down a waterfall, while falling out of the sky, while zooming through a tunnel on a mine cart, while underwater in a fast moving current and while in a burning house

  • FFVI is jam packed with creativity and that's what I want to see in FFVIX. I don't care if stuff is unrealistic or flat out crazy like being on an airship that gets destroyed while in flight and surviving.

It's the crazy stuff that really makes a statement, that puts the fun in games and creates memorable experiences. This is supposed to be a fantasy game after all. Come on SE, don't be afraid to put your wildest ideas into FFVIX! Go for it!

Some things from previous FF's I would like to see in XIV are!

-Trains (the FF8 ones were fun I think that if bastok had trains that would have made the republic look epic.)
    -Campaign system, but more epic.
    -bears that are beastman lol.
-those rat beastman, as a new playable race lol they look kinda of cool. Forgot name >_<

-Trains in some form or another (perhaps Sky Trains?)
-A town within a very snowy/mountainous region, and have said mountainous region look like real mountains, not the shoddy snow cliffs of Beaucedine or Xarcabard. How about real slopes, passes, and valleys?
    -Alexander as a player summon

Modes of transport that take as long as I want/start when I want. Waiting 15min for a boat to wait 3more min for "travel time". I don't give a **** if its realistic, waiting in line is not "fun".

I was fine with waiting for transport, just as long as I don't have to be sat at my computer to force myself onto the boat when it arrives. Let me tell an NPC to auto-load me on it so I can go afk for 10 mins.

(Yes, I know about auto-run. But if it didn't work or if someone hit a key then you had to wait for another 15 minutes.)

Hey, even if I don't know you, it's not like I care. Everyone on Pandy is officially awesome, anyway :)

We'll probably just post in the XIV main forum and XI server forum on the websites. We might update the Wiki as well just to let people know.

If there's another server called Pandemonium, we'll be on there fo shizzle.

Although FFX-2 was an awful game, there was a mini game where you shoot wolves and dogs with Yuna in a Resident Evil style, it was fun to play, but very easy.

I really liked the dark world from FFVI, if you know what I mean...

Enemies with big armors and helmets ( Golbez, Exdeath, the Judges) are very cool.

I also like big mutant enemies, like Shin or Promathia.

A final area that resembles the Crystal World from FFIX (this is the first FF and my favourite one).

A tropical paradiso, like Besaid or even better.

Alot of the mini games from past games would be awesome.

I never understood why they added Tetra master outside of the actual game for XI. I think it would have made for a good time waster to be able to play with your friend over like say, an extra window that you could pull up from the linkshell or friend list.

Also, real chocobo raising. Spending over a month breeding one with the hope of getting the color you want then raising its stats only to find out it never runs faster than a rental. Bullocks. If I spend that much time on it, it **** well better shoot fire out of its *** and run through the zone like a chicken on speed.

To be honest the thing I want more than ANYTHING else in FFXIV at this point.... is REAL dungeons again. In XI you never get that same sense of storming a dungeon to kill a boss.

It doesn't have to be main story related even to be honest. I'd love to enter a tower, fight my way up to the top and fight a boss. If FFXIV goes the instanced route, which I really hope it does in more than a few places, this would be great. Even if it's a more linear dungeon... doesn't matter. If you look at the dungeon design between other FF games and XI, you'll see they changed their philosophy entirely, and IMO not for the better.

Let's get back to the crawl.

    I'm torn between instances/no-instances

i definitely see the pros to having them, but having instances removes an important(what i feel as) criteria for an mmo, and that is seeing other adventurers around doing stuff. a rather simple thing i know, but as an example, I'd love walking through almost everywhere in ffxi and seeing others doing stuff/battling, it really made it feel like a world. Well i guess for boss battles i like them, it makes it more fair for everyone, but you can do that by a sort of trigger spawn (without a 4hour respawn gap). as far as a whole dungeon or 'tower' goes i want to see others, not necessarily in my party climbing that tower too.

when too many things become instances it may just feel like guild wars, which... i didn't really like... only places you saw other (outside your party) was basically the towns.

    duno, just my opinion.

The golden freakin saucer. I spent so much **** time there it wasn't funny. Also I want an auction house like in FFVI, one that has a npc throws up random goodies that people bid on in real time for like 10 minutes or something, I think that would be sweet. Of course I want just about every class to be included in their armory, more options is always good. If by the grace of god an online blitzball could be made well then I'd **** my pants and probably die from lack of sleep and food.

This is sort of how dynamis works. Except Dynamis isn't a rush through, it's a slow steady tentative crawl through THOUSANDS OF GIANT FAT STONE THINGS.

Some assaults are like this though (that kill all one in Arrapago Reef springs to mind), so it can be done.

Then there's Nyzul Isle, which is basically a multi-floor version of what you've mentioned. It's not hard to realise why Nyzul is so popular.

    Xentok wrote:

Well... we had this in XI with Purgonurgo Isle... but considering it took a week to get there and there was nothing to do except clamming (pointless) and a couple of fights... it was always dead.

SE should have made Kazham look like Purgonurgo. I agree with you on that point. Hot **** coastal town please.

Litie, I think we've palyed the same games *wink*

I do want some good villains, I feel like XI's were satisfactory, Brothers so old and evil, a good man gone wrong because of pain and love. Actually the shadowlord amazes me because his wrath went so deep he couldnt leave the plain of existance totally.

Then we got to kill a god with CoP. *thumbs up*
and mayhaps.... we killed an entire religion in sky?

I would like to see something like magitek/our own technology that we could update or maintain.

Im hoping that things become conveinient to play with others. Whether this be easy syncing ( no levels ) or just the ability to easily connect a regime of leves for a fun and beneficial journey.

I want the depth they put in to FFXI.

Moon phases, elemental days of the week, weather....

And then having all that impact game play in the way of drop rates, crafting, magic attacks and en-spells... monsters with elemental affinities and weaknesses (although, something more varied than 'everything is weak to ice' would be nice)

I know I'm forgetting stuff, but it was that kind of depth that made Vana'diel feel like a world, and not a game. The sheer number of zones didn't hurt either.

    Consistent music quality.

I know Nobuo Uematsu is composing 100% of the game's soundtrack, but I'm still a little worried. What I mean is:

Zones that don't have you just mindlessly listening to the wind.

Enjoyable town themes that aren't repetitive (Mizuta didn't do well when it came to this, up until Wings of the Goddess), an extended FF victory theme in classic fashion, a Prologue theme (XI didn't even have one until A Crystalline Prophecy), Enjoyable battle themes that don't have me wanting to turn off the sound, etc.

XI's soundtrack, I hope we can mostly agree, was mediocre when you compare them to the first ten, I hope XIV brings me classic FF music quality with a mix of the fun an FF MMO will bring.

I think this is something you'll just have to live with. It'll be way too much work for the composer to make a new track for every area in the game, especially when there will be expansions after another. Nobuo can't just dedicate his whole career on this one project.

I think XI had a fairly good balance on this, although I agree that most tracks weren't on par with the offline series when it comes to quality. Although that can be expected from an MMO, they simply can't just put as many resources to the soundtrack as in the single player games.. well, if they want to keep the budget on an acceptable level that is.

I don't think they need musing in every zone. Some zones would do fine with just wind, especially the desolate zones. If they had less, but better tracks I'd be happy.

I wonder how the music will change between "zones" of a seamless world =o

If # of zones is really that big of an issue they could just use the same song for multiple zones. My FFXI music is almost always off because I get tired of listening to nothing wind effects for hours on end.

I'm thinking the easiest way to solve the 'zones with just wind problem' is for vast, outdoor areas (an analogue in XI would be La Theine, Meriphataud Mountains, all those other large desolate zones) have just a catchy 'Main Theme' music, like every other FF out there, a long piece of music that fits with the overall sense of adventure.

If they decide to have random areas with no music, they need to do it right.

If you're adventuring into an abandoned ruin, with who knows what living in there, and all you've heard about this place is how dangerous it is...zoning in to complete silence could be kinda freaky.

I completely agree with Altreer. Rather than have no song at all, have a catchy world map like theme or something. Anything is really better than the wind, to be honest.

IMHO...nothing. I mean lets face it theirs going to be your typical stuff that we can all count in being in 14 i.e marlboros, chocobos, summons(weither be bosses/controlable) and various other small cosmetic stuff. As far as actual content I don't want anything from previous FF games. Opera houses, trains, paintings...thats all been done before. I'd like to see something NEW not something ive seen before only this time with a self made character. I mean seriously its a NEW game lets avoid the OLD we've seen it before. Now dont flame me I know some of you will be thinking of it...I love the FF series always have and always will and what keeps me coming back is the NEW things they always come up with. Maybe its just me but keep coming with the new stuff and I'll always be happy.

But if I absolutely must say something theres only one thing....and its just cosmetic but.... Caster typer chars that look like VIVI =)))

Moogles and chocobos I guess are what makes a FF game familiar.

    Soldier Job!!! lol j/k

I know what I "DON'T" wanna see is 72643876498376547865237463746 different ways to spell Sephiroth and Cloud like when FFXI first came out. I remember seeing about 10+ Sephiroth's in almost every zone of the game. omfgsogay.

But seriously I wanna see the return of Ballista, except new and improved! You give people rewards for beating someone else's face in, they'll come back again and again to get that gear. I know it's wowish, but anything to give someone insentive to play some more pvp would be preferable.

But chocobo races would be fun, and if you actually put in the time to raise a chocobo with some awesome stats it definetly should run faster then a rental..... I honestly didn't feed my choco for about 4 months lol. I was hoping it would show my choco as a skeleton, but alas he was just sad and lonely.... ****! Oh, on the sugject of mounts lemme get a motorcycle!

Please bring back Dark Knights, Paladin of course was one of my favorite jobs, and please don't forget Samurai!

I'd like to see music reused from prev FFs, appropriate music of course.

Maybe throw in some Naruto battle music in there as well:
