New Armada Site: http://www.ArmadaFF.com

My name is Crimso, I am the former leader of one of the largest and most successful Linkshells on my Final Fantasy XI server.

I was overcome with great enthusiasm when I heard about Final Fantasy XIV and even greater enthusiasm when I learned of a simultaneous world-wide release. Although I retired from FFXI in 2006, I have kept in contact with some of my former officers and we came to the conclusion of restarting the Linkshell for FFXIV.
The game is still far from release but after developing the basic structure of our Linkshell we would like to officially announce the founding of Armada Linkshell for FFXIV.
With the game so far away we are in open recruitment mode right now. Anyone that is interested can visit our brand new forums at www.ArmadaFF.com and sign up. We probably won’t have an official roster until after the game is released and we see who is still interested by then. I can ensure you, loyalty will be rewarded. Ultimately we will be looking for people that we deem a good fit to the Linkshell in 2 ways.
1) Prospects must get along with and fit in socially with the Linkshell.
We want to have a variety of people within the Linkshell and we will embrace diversity. However, like a fraternity, some people may not fit in with the rest of our members.
2) Prospects must take their job serious and be top quality players.
This doesn’t mean that we want all of our members to play 16 hours a day just to get the best gear possible (although many of our members will be playing that much). We want you to find your niche, whatever it may be, and maximize your potential within that role. When the time comes for end-game, we won’t just need the best DD (or DPS) and tanks but we’ll also need high level crafters and cooks.
We won’t just be looking for people that dedicate their entire day to FFXIV. As long as you qualify for statement 1 and 2 you can play 10 hours a week and still be useful to our Linkshell.

When FFXIV finally is released, we will all start from level 1 (or zero) and work our way up. We want prospective members to know that, while we ultimately will be interested in end-game events and hope to dominate the stage, there is still a long journey to end-game that should not be overlooked.
The best FFXI end-game Linkshells have members that have known each other from the beginning of their adventure; their strength comes from deep foundations. We hope to start developing a community of people that can rely on each other and ensure that playing the game is fun and addictive. Our Linkshell members will develop their characters together and understand each other’s styles of play. When we do start end-game content, we will have a group of people that know how they work as a group and are dependable.

Again, our new webpage is www.ArmadaFF.com . Feel free to register and introduce yourself!

I don't think we'll have Linkshells or guilds in the same style of FFXI. Instead, more of a generic guild system tied to the Guildeves. So I don't see a point for your services, sorry.

Wow, good job you two. Shoot the guy down for... wanting to play a game?

I almost guarantee they'll have linkshells or something of the sort. They might just call it a friends list but they'll have a method to tlak to a certain group of people. This is a staple in MMOs.

And who cares if the game isn't out, yet?

Chill.

So you both think that there wont be a linkshell/guild system similar to FFXI and nearly every other MMORPG? You are stupid.

Guild recruitment threads aren’t really going to be socially acceptable until around beta time. Instead of hurling insults, I’ll try to be helpful by telling you the reasons this thread has been and will be met with such fierce resistance.

1. We don’t know anything about the game’s guild system yet. We don’t know if they’re going to use something similar to FFXI’s linkshell system or something more traditional where you’ll only have one guild at a time. Thus, people are going to be extremely reluctant to commit to anything until they know for sure.

2. You claim the guild will eventually focus on endgame but there are two issues with that. First, SE will most likely not even release endgame content until at least 6-8 months after release. You can easily get around that by focusing on the social aspect of the shell but that still leaves the second issue. That is, we don’t even know what the endgame scene will look like. My guess is that they’ve learned their lesson in regards to events like dynamis and sky so we can probably expect to not see anything on par with those. For all we know, they could introduce more “casual” styled endgame more in line with Nyzul or assault, where you don’t need an endgame dedicated guild. So you may want to focus strictly on the social aspect of your shell and not even make mention of endgame until we know what it is.

3. As a former guild leader, you should already know that timing is a crucial element to recruitment efforts. Your timing is horribly off right now. As I said in the first sentence of this post, the time to recruit spans between a couple weeks prior to open beta and onward. Anything before that is more than likely going to be considered political suicide. By trying to recruit this soon, you’ve guaranteed that close to half or more of those you recruit will have drifted off away from you over the next few months due to the boredom of waiting. And then when someone else pounces to recruit when the timing is more favorable, they’re going to scoop up all the members you could have had. To top it off, some may see your bad and impatient timing as a bad leadership quality and automatically assume your guild will be on a quick trip to doom’s door before endgame is even released. Your previous experience in XI has no significance to many seeing as this is a whole different ball game where everyone’s score is reset to zero. To top it all off, a lot can happen between now and the game’s release. So again, terrible timing.

4. The tone at the start of your post is what’s possibly getting such negative responses. It’s all fine and dandy to have a sense of pride in your guild. But when you go out in public and declare your former shell the “most successful” on your server? That doesn’t show pride to outsiders. It shows arrogance. “Most successful” in this context is a subjective concept.

My suggestion to you? Just back off the open recruitment gig for awhile longer and wait with all the rest of us. Yeah, you’ll get interested people joining up on your forums and whatnot. But I can promise you that you’re probably not going to ever see most of them in game for whatever reason. Those who do join you this soon are the mostly the ones who let their eagerness control them and will ultimately change their mind at the last minute for any number of reasons. I've had enough experience with the overly eager to know that most (not all) are the wishy-washy ones without any sense of loyalty. I can assure you that we’re all extremely eager to set our plans for XIV in motion, but we don’t let that eagerness necessarily control us beyond a certain point. Regardless, good luck and I hope you do become successful in game on some level or another.

Bookmarked, your site is really well put together for just being re-opened. Keep up the good work, and also PM me if you'd like to talk FFXI, or FFXIV.

You guys look like you had lots of fun in FFXI.

I'd love to know what gave you the idea that S/E would downgrade from linkshells to "a generic guild system".

Before I decide to join your server and your linkshell, can you please tell me if you guys have cleared the Holy Handgrenade fight?

I would be interested in joining, but currently I am on the Flying Spaghetti Monster in progression, and really would like to join a linkshell that is working on getting the FSM down.

I am a Bacon Mage fully equipped with the Staff of Eternal Pwn, my character name is SephirothCloudOwnURFace.

The point is clearly beyond your level of thinking. ZarikOfSylph summed up my feelings on the matter. There is no reason to accept a guild of any kind this early. We don't even know if we would have control to play on the same server. Let's wait until Beta is released before we plan to join guilds, alright. kkthnxbye

edit: Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that the OP is an arrogant douche that got all emo over a negative response to his guild. That's not the guild I would want to join.

Everyone who plays MMOs is a loot *****..and i'm fairly sure "Linkshells" have been all but confirmed for FFXIV, the devs said they'll be even better than LS and your dedication to one "shell" will have its rewards - you will be rewarded for helping members out and they you, etc. (how? i don't know yet, nor does anyone, but these sound like guilds/linkshells/organizations to me). I'll check out your site OP, sounds cool, although there has been a million LS's started already, which does seem a little premature, but you never know, maybe organizing one early on will go a long way to having a successful one right off the bat.

Yeppers.

I think this guy's just excited and is making plans already.

I don't think we can really expect to see anything outside of a social LS for weeks, or maybe even months after it's released. People just won't know enough about the game, or be strong enough to take anything down.

Personally, I'm going to play it like I did with XI. Spend hours on end making sure I like my character, then explore the city... maybe all the cities, to see which one I like the most. Then I'll start playing the game.

People who start a new game as an endgame LS, though? That's really... stupid.

Don't think he mentioned an end game linkshell per say, but was explaining that Armada was/is an End-Game linkshell in FFXI. Maybe he's starting a newbie linkshell in hopes of it becoming an end-game one some day? ::Shrug::

I'm sure plenty of noobs will jump on the chance @ a linkshell when FFXIV comes out. Think of all the noobs that will start a LS the day of. So, there's no such thing as too early imo.
