FFXIII to contain "Campaign Code" for FFXIVFollow

Here's the story.

Rumors surfaced today that early copies of Final Fantasy XIII would contain a "Campaign Code" for Final Fantasy XIV. We now have confirmation with a picture from next week's Jump. A recent campaign run by Square Enix allowed early buyers of 4 Warriors of Light Final Fantasy Gaiden to submit a special code to receive a small store display standee.

What do you think this "Campaign Code" will bring?

I would assume it would be to play the demo they played at gamescon. Tanaka did mention he wanted everyone to be able to try it. This way they make monies off 13 and make people want 14 more. Win win.

Seeing that FFXIII doesn't have a worldwide release in December , I doubt there will be any "perks" included in it. In order to have a successful beta SE will need players from every region that will be getting the game. By the time we get our hands on this game beta will be over.

I can get fat birds in the local bar, I don't have to buy a computer game to get one.

Regarding FFXIV beta access being included in Japanese versions of FFXIII.

Hopefully the US versions of FFXIII will include this as well.

I'm going the unoriginal route and say this is going to be a beta code and they are just calling it some special name as many games recently aren't calling their betas 'beta' but a preview.

I can't imagine this would be a BETA code... SE seems like they're very gung-ho about not giving a region a heads up over a different one in 14 like they did with 11. Seeing as 13 won't be released state side for a looooong time, this would either mean that the XIV beta won't be for a loooooong time as well, or SE is already going back on their word.

I'm hoping it's something silly, like a free in game item when 14 launches, or a demo etc.

If it's a beta key that EU/NA and other non Japanese players can't access... that'd be a BIG first step in the wrong direction.

I think it may be a beta code, but the beta won't actually start til NA and EU players can do it as well. In other words it'll be a raincheck for a guaranteed spot in the beta when it does start.

The gift is Chocobo **** +1.

I personally hope I won't be forced into buying XIII just to Beta Test XIV, because I didn't have any interest in playing XIII. That would make a Beta Code about... $59.99.

Well, it may just be a beta for the PS3 version of FFXIV as well, with PC beta going about other means.
Plus not sure if they did release this "campaign code" for XIV in NA packaged with XIII how they'd go about it since FFXIII outside of Japan is coming out for the PS3 as well as the 360 and XIV isn't coming to the 360 (yet). So unless they package it with only the PS3 version of the game, which will of course affect sales, and MS will cry foul. Or they go about doing the beta in NA in another manner.

A lot of other sites are jumping the gun and calling this a FFXIV beta access code.

The magazine says キャンペーンコード "Campaign Code."

There is no indication beyond that as to what it can be redeemed for. Square Enix has indicated they want to bring a developer version to Japanese fans like they did at Gamescom, so there is a chance the code will allow access to some sort of beta build. It could also be for a mousepad. We just don't know yet.

Honestly, i'm buying FF XIII anyway. A possible beta code is just a bonus. In all Honesty, i think they should do it this way, so that actual fans of the Final Fantasy Empire can get in before some douche that has never heard about it.

I think it would make more sense if the code is for the later/last beta. The thing is that there is no guarantee that FFXIII players want to beta test FFXIV. Some might, but some might not.

If the campaign code is given out randomly in the boxes for the focus group beta, there's potential of many unused codes which might end up with not enough people, or if all of the codes are used then the focus group might then consist too many people.

Correct me if I am wrong (and someone no doubt will), but didn't SE say that the XIV beta would be limited to the PC? That would seem to eliminate a beta key altogether... because they won't be handing out PC beta keys to PS3 owners without any clue as to your PC specs... that is just not how things are done.

Again apologies if I am mistaken... I could swear I read that, but I'll try to confirm it myself.

*Edit* http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/02/final-fantasy-xiv-beta-will-be-pc-only/

There you go. I suppose that as the Beta phase progresses and becomes a fully open Beta, PS3 users could theoretically be included, and this campaign code could theoretically be the token needed for PS3 open beta access, but that's a lot of ifs, and none of them are supported by what we know from SE.

A more correct translation would be that beta will be PC only in the early stages with PS3 following.

I know that it says the code is for FFXIV but I can't help but have the feeling that all this code will do is allow you to access some XIV chars in XIII and have some sort of battle royale with your buddies.

That'd be a pretty lame battle.

FFXIII Chars V Generic Lalafell v1.0

We don't have any game info, and we probably won't until it's released. It's probably for an item in XIV. I can't imagine it being a beta test invite... that's just really weird.

XIII is going to sell millions. No way SE can give out that many beta codes...

Code is only for early copies of FF XIII, I don't think it would be for all copies sold. So more like limited number, and probably even out of those, there would still be even more limitation with first come first serve if for beta testing. Just a guess.

That would be pretty stupid on SE's part if this was a Beta Code. SE needs quality beta testers. People who've played, and put their hearts and souls into FFXI for a long time. People who really know what's going on, and what to look out for. Not some random Joe who bought a final fantasy game at gamestop. I'm going to lose a lot of faith in SE if it is the Beta Code.

Let's say it's a beta code. And let's say, for some reason, they allow PS3 owners to participate in the beta. Awesome, they got a beta code! What about all the 360 preorders? Would they get a beta code might not be able to use?

I doubt it's a beta invite, but I might be convinced otherwise if they announce a FFXIV release on the 360 anytime soon.

well, maybe its not so much a beta code as a sort of demo?
the ps3 is capable of creating sort of ad hoc servers for other games (warhawk comes to mind) so why not have a demo where you can create a character, have access to 1-5 guildleves and host up to xx amount of other people and play together?
Have a low 'level' cap (equivalent to say 10-20 in FFXI) and a small selection of weapons/armor.
Then when the game does come out, people are used to the first few 'levels', you may have tons of interest from the demo, and they wouldnt even have to pay for real servers.

also these characters would not be carried over to the actual game.

Nuff said? I mean, this code can be for literally ANYTHING, and Elmer has already mentioned that the translation is being done incorrectly. "Campaign Code" not OMGBETACODEZZZZZZZZZ. We have to play it patient and see what happens.

From FFXIV Core:

Quote:

Well, there's currently a rumor that if you buy Final Fantasy XIII you will get a beta key for FFXIV. What platform it is for or at what date you can use the key is not specified or known at this time. Which means it could be for the PC or PS3 only and possibly next year instead of anytime 'soon'. The magazine that has this information and also where early scans has leaked from is Shoen Jump.

What's your thoughts on this, will it be a limited amount of FFXIII copies which will have the key? Only in Japan or also abroad? FFXIII will be released December 17th.

Addendum by SteveManly:

I checked a few Japanese fansites. eLeMeN - FF14 thinks that this is most likely a campaign code for an in-game item. Final Fantasy 14 Fan is unsure whether it's a beta key, a download code for the development version, a limited edition item, or something else, but they quote the FFXI Term Dictionary about "campaign code:" "a service where a selected character can receive a limited in-game item using a code included with other merchandise the player buys." They go on to say that, since Square Enix released in an interview that the beta test will be world wide, it's a little difficult to believe that they would release a Japan-only beta code. However, they said, if this were the case it must be something that Square Enix has though through thoroughly.

I don't think the US version of FFXIII will have anything relating to FFXIV. There is a strict multi-platform release agreement that prevents Sony from having anything that MS does not. If the PS3 version of FFXIII has betacodes, the English and Japanese language track or any other bonus, then it would have a market edge. People would choose the Sony version over the MS version because of that. Microsoft would call foul and their swam of lawyers would scream and yell.

This is the same reason why we have not seen a PS3 Demo here in the states, where as Japan has had a demo for a LOooooong time. Japan is not bound by that agreement because there is no XBox release there. Simultaneous release agreements mean exactly that, products that are appearing on multiple platforms must be released exactly at the same time and "Resemble one another in entirety".

Personally, I am not really that excited for FFXIII. The English dubbing is of course Terribad, no surprise there, but with FFXIV around the corner I just don't seem that interested. I have to travel to Japan 2 times starting in January for business, I might pick up a copy then, but I am definitely not rushing to the importer for it. Which sadly is a first in terms of Final Fantasy releases.

The item is for a secret ingame item so no early access to beta or anything, just a nice ingame item (probably a t-shirt saying "I own ff13!")

according to SE's official ff14 support site:

A code for an in-game item with the NA/EU release of ff13 is still undecided.
