I am just wondering how gameplay will be on the PS3 as from what i can see in the gameplay videos it looks like FF14 is going to be using a taskbar to activate skills?

Will there be a different system in use for PS3 and controllers?

One thing i liked about ff11 was the fact i could use a controller on my PC do you think this will be possible again?

I think SE well keep it the same as FFXI to make the FFXI players feel more at home to say. Just like reusing the same races. Crtl+1,2,3 Alt+1,2,3 or L2/R2

I'm planning on buying for PS3 but seeing as i played majority of FFXI on the PC, i hope they have keyboard mouse support otherwise i'd be a little upset if i have to use that little keyboard you connect to your controller to talk to people..

I don't know if they plan on having controller support but you can plug in a regular keyboard and mouse into a ps3 so it might not be needed. I think it might be best to leave controllers out of it too. The UI for FFXI was rather limited because they wanted both keyboard/pc users and controller/ps2 users to be on equal playing fields.

i dont think this would be a good idea. not supporting controllers would turn alot of people off from the game, myself included.

alot of FFXIs playerbase that played on xbox or ps2 would state use of a controller as one of their main reasons for not playing on pc.

True, and many PC players use controllers.. most of them being people who converted from console to PC in some part of their playing career.

I actually had been debating to get a ps3 or new pc to play FFXIV.

Im not the greatest guy on building a new pc, but I will get some help from my friends.
but im thinking 1500 should do it...

playing on PS3 will only cost me like 600......... 300 for consol + a new monitor or maybe mouse and keyboard...

my gf actually asked me to get a new pc, but i was like a ps3 saves me money and i could play some other games on ps3 which she benefits too (she likes the little big planet).

but i think playing with a controller on ps3 would turn me down, because i get so used to the keyboard set up for marcos and fast chatting, also with a pc i could use macro builder and windower and then i could check websites at the same time
i know i could probably plays the game on ps3 with a keyboard and mouse but i know i will feel weird...

You could build a pretty sweet PC for $1,500. I highly doubt you would be disappointed with having a nice custom built rig. You can play all sorts of other games on a PC too, with sharper graphics and higher resolution. Not to mention tons of other applications you might find fun/useful. And there is also the ability to download expensive operating systems, games, and other applications such as Adobe Suit, or Maya etc for free... which you should never ever do without permission from whoever owns the content of course. You can also get emulators for all of those legacy console gaming systems, and DOS games.

Playstations are fun too though.

As long as it has keyboard and mouse support, it's PS3 all the way for me. I've bought too many "top of the line" PCs that became outdated way too fast to bother getting another one. Granted, those were laptops, so I was sort of shooting myself in the foot.

I just hope SE doesn't use the PS3 as an excuse not to add content to FFXIV like they did with the PS2 for FFXI.

The biggest dillema for me would be no Spellcast or other 3rd party equivalent.

I couldn't imagine not using just mouse and keyboard on PC...heck, shorlty after I started FFXI i rarely touched my mouse at all, i strictly used my keyboard for everything. targeting, attacking, chatting, w/e..it'd be odd to juggle a controller in with all that

I will be playing on PS3 because I love Playstaion. I started playing on PS2 and a years later got it for my PC too however my PC isn't the greatest so I still play a majority of the time on my console. My desk is next to my TV stand unit so I can easily access the web for info without slowing down my game-play on PC and also be on Vent and 10 other things besides a game. I'm pretty sure they will add controller support. Everyone I know who plays mainly on PC plays with a controller. I really loathe playing on a keyboard, there's just too many buttons and I had no problem using a controller and typing on the keyboard at the same time. I mean that problem can easily be solved by just prioritizing what you are you doing, I mean if your trying to navigate somewhere with True-Sight mobs and need to concentrate where you're walking are you really going to take the time to talk to people about a funny story of you at work earlier that day or wait till you get to the place you need to be and THEN tell them. Windower is very nice but I hardly think someone will make a program that fast to accommodate FF14 and I just did just fine on a console without Spellcast and all the bells and whistles, they are awesome programs though but I don't think they were necessary. PS3 FTW~

It is my fond hope that you people who preffer to use controles will be able to while those of us who would preffer to use keyboard and mouse off of the PS3 will still be able to as well... yeah I know at that point I might as well go PC but the PS3 was a much cheaper option since I would feel weird about updateing my PC to one good enough to play XIV but not actualy be up to date.. *sigh*

Lets just hop its not a resolution of 800x600 like ffxi is on ps2/ps3.

720p(1280x720) is the standard on consoles nowadays so it will probably be that.

Which is one reason I'll be playing on PC. I prefer a higher resolution than that.

I'll have two accounts, though (one for me, one of the wife) so I'll probably buy both versions in case I want to play from the couch.

I play FFXI at 1080p on 360. My graphics are much better with an HDTV than my GF's are on PC. PS3 for FFXIV will have at least that resolution. The only reason FFXI graphics are so crappy with PS2/PS3 is it is still the PS2 version of the game regardless of the PS console used.

Unfortunately, it looks as if this will most likely not be true.

That doesn't surprise me at all. Very few PS3 games are rendered at 1080p.

Just a bit of info on 720p vs 1080p....to be honest you will only be able to tell the difference if you are using a monitor/TV 40" plus. so a person running FFXIV at 1080p on a computer will have no greater detail than a person playing on a PS3 at 720p. So to sum it up.. if you debating which version to get based purely or resolution you would have to have a computer hooked up to a 40"plus screen to notice any difference.

Yeah FFXIII gameplay is only going to be rendered in 720p (with 1080p cutscenes on the PS3 version) so I always assumed the engine would use the same resolution for XIV.

Keep in mind that it is also dependent on viewing distance. At 2 feet or so, I can definitely tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on my 22 inch monitor.

Here is a graph showing what I mean:
http://www.engadgethd.com/2006/12/09/1080p-charted-viewing-distance-to-screen-size/

Also, I prefer higher resolution because then the chat boxes can be smaller. That was one thing that made me dislike the PS2 version of FFXI...
(Although with customizable UI, this may be a non-issue)

i had both versions, i usually played on my ps2 but there were times id hop on my pc to play. i personally think this time round i will use pc for the higher resolution, but i really would want to play with a controller, so if not gonna be controller friendly i'd settle for a controller and lower resolution. for someone who can sit and play this game for 8-13hrs i would rather be sitting back on my bed or couch then at a computer seat.

I started on computer with NA release, then later got it for PS2 just cause it's a game console, designed to play games. No way to really get Viruses or any of that other crap as well. I got this keyboard/controller thing that was friggen amazing. The keyboard itself was small but you get used to it fast. I like the controller cause for me it seems faster for me to target and move with more control. I don't think I could just use keyboard and mouse. Though I'll probably be using computer when XIV comes out, so starting the game like that might actually make me get used to it.

I find it weird that people are comparing everything to PS2 and FFXI in terms of Windower and plugins. I wouldn't be surprised if SE opens up plugin development in FFXI and find a way to have sanctioned plugins that are user created. On top of that, SE will have learned from their mistakes and will offer up FFXIV in windowed form right off the bat. I just hope they do so without the border so it looks more like fullscreen.

All that aside, I will be playing on both (assuming the game is worth playing), since FFXIV will likely become a family thing (me, wife, daughter). I will likely get another PC for the wife to play on (she is using my gaming laptop right now, and while it runs current games nicely, I have a feeling FFXIV may be a little too much for it... time will tell). My daughter will likely use the PS3 and I will use the old PC (we will see though). We will likely stick to using the controllers though. It has always felt more comfortable to me.

I seriously doubt that add-ons will be allowed for reasons that I've discussed in this thread:

http://www.zam.com/forum.html?game=268&mid=12507711109201773&num=29&page=1

(Mostly the fact that the PS3 has limited resources...)

Although, I'm pretty sure windowed mode will be available from the start.
