Was just reading the post on punishment vs difficulty, and it kinda dawned on me; in XI when you switched jobs all your buffs would wear and given that in XIV we can change jobs on the fly would you think the same should happen? or should you be able to buff,rr yourself, switch to a melee class and start fighting.

thoughts?

I don't think the primary purpose of being able to change jobs so "fluidly" in FFXIV is to change things on the fly often enough to be seriously detrimental to individual and/or group buffs. That would be a little absurd, and I don't think that is how SE would design it. Even in the descriptions/examples they've given so far, it states someone would change their job based on a specific situation that comes up, for instance going to do a BCNM while your soloing and switching jobs quickly and effectively to allow using a more "substantial" job in the BCNM.

I seriously doubt you'll be switching jobs from say, Warrior to DPS then White Mage to heal and then Black Mage to Bind while you change back to Warrior to DPS and finish all in the same fight. That's just a little crazy.

That's actually not what the OP said. He's talking about switching outside of battle to gain the buffs from each class...which I really doubt will happen.

It's the same principle, though. Let's say, melee a mob down as a Warrior, and then between mobs switch to White Mage to protect, shell, re-up and regenerative buffs, and then switch back to Warrior to fight. I seriously doubt that SE is designed with this focus in mind, and there will likely be some form of blowback for attempting to switch jobs like that.

Same principle but really different. Plus we already know we wont be able to change while in combat.

There's no way they would allow this. It would make everybody a hyrbid, encourage gear swapping, and lead to general headaches. I'm giving this a 1 in a 1000 chance.

I would imagine that as long as you have some type of enmity on the mob, you won't be able to switch jobs. Or at least, SE has said themselves that you will not be allowed to switch jobs during battle.

Since ffxiv is supposed to be more solo firendly I could see how this could be possible, that is if there isn't an automatic health and mana regen in place. Otherwise downtime could be horrible and solo play would be discouraged. There might be restrictions attached ex: if you have phalanx on and switch to a warrior it would dropp the buff, but spells like protect would stay because you can cast them on anyone. There are going to many problems that can come from being able to switching jobs between battle it is hard to tell how SE is going tackle the issue.

I think changing jobs in FFXIV will be very similar to changing specs in WoW at the moment, you lose all your buffs and you lose all your mana/energy/rage. I think they are trying to stay away from having to go back and forth between moogles just to change your 'job' in battle.

Well, they've said(although I cant find the specific source) that one would be able to switch to healer to recover outside of battles then swtich back, I'd imagine they would implement a cool down akin to what BLU currently has but instead of spells make you unable to do anything for X period of time which would slow people down some or make it not viable in certain circumstances

..but yea allowing one to buff oneself as if we were on healer then retain them as a different class may be a pain to balance and a bit more than sucky for newer players..I can see it now, "lvl 10 Gladiator-Pld(Paladator if you will) {Can I have it}, lvl 30+ {Illusionist} {Yes, Please}"

I can see us losing TP for sure, since we're weapon switching and all, being able to switch to healer to cure ourselves only seems kinda useless unless theres no option to rest; and would the game know that you're switching to a class thats used no spells/taken no damage and have you at full hp/mp upon switching or would you have to rest to go from 0 mp to whatever your max is/you require to fix yourself up

..so many questions, so little to do at work atm..this game needs to come out
