I'd honestly call the Wii weaker than PS2. So, yeah, let's avoid a system bottleneck this time around.

You don't think 6-7 years from now the PS3 won't be seen as a bottleneck?

SE will not put FFXIV on the Wii. It would be an extremely bad idea, for multiple reasons:

1) The Wii is years behind the PS3 and Xbox360 in terms of processing power. Since the game would have to be compatible across all platforms, this would put unnecessary restrictions on all platforms.

2) There is no official Wii hard drive to store data. Granted, they could make a hard drive attachment, just like the PS2 did for FFXI, but are you really going to want to pay $100 for a hard drive attachment for just 1 game, when you could just buy an xbox360 for $250.

3) The Wii only supports the output of standard tv 640x480 resolution. 640x480 will look like crap, especially in an MMO that requires the use of a chat window. At 640x480 your chat window will probably be only 6 lines and take up 1/3 of your viewing area. I've seen youtube videos of people playing FFXI on a PS2, and I dunno why they put up with that! The extra space really helps a lot.

4) This is an MMO, not a family oriented multiplayer game. The Wii excels at simple family type games, and has a targeted audience of young kids and party/group players. Young kids and party/group players aren't going to want to play an MMO on their TV and have everyone else watch, when they could play a multiplayer game that involves friends and family. The Wii just isn't a good platform for an MMO.

Although I'm more a PlayStation guy, there's a Final Fantasy for the Wii coming next month called the Crystal Bearers. It looks awesome!

What's so ridiculous about it? The system itself is pretty much a GameCube+1 with practically no room for expansion, and the GC wasn't exactly pushing the limits of tech when it came out. And while quality of games is another matter, just playing fast-paced games like Metroid Prime where you'd find yourself standing at a door waiting 5+ seconds for the next room to load while crap you dodged catches up to you was a pain. So, while I've come to expect loading times ever since I played my first disc-based media, the hardware determining the pacing of those waits is important.

+1

the ps2 although perhaps slightly inferior to the wii had a game library vastly superior.

Also yeah the wii is slow, i love the house of the dead games and its not unusual on the new HoTD: Overkill to have serious lag spikes that affect gameplay. The game doesn't have amazing graphics either but the wii just can't handle it.

I personally think although the wii technically might be superior to the ps2, i will never believe it to be. **** other then a graphics/memory update the speed and overall functionality, exactly the same, well except their game library SUCKS! (yes a few golden titles here and there but overall it is lacking mad style, be honest, the snes was the last system with a huge amount of games before developers starting jumping ship).

As much as I love the wii I would have to agree that it wouldn't be able to handle FFXIV. Plus I don't think you would be able to use the major selling point for the wii (the wiimote) with FFXIV.

Even if they somehow managed to get it to work on the wii you would have to buy a 32 gig sd card to store the game on. That's about $80.

The ridiculous thing is simply that it's incorrect information.

Personally, I despise the Wii, and think that it killing gaming today moreso than anything else, but it's simply untrue to call it weaker than last generation's least powerful system.

First off, I wasn't aware that the Wii was "every small thing."

Secondly, opinions are opinions if you don't agree with mine, then good for you.

Thats pretty cool bro and I respect your opinion. But in my opinion I felt that, that was a unnecessary response because I wasn't personally attacking you with that statement even though you obliviously took it like that and attempted to defend yourself also if you have a bigger outlook the wii can be a part of "every small thing" just letting you know.... This is a necessary response however to make everything crystal clear and before hand if you feel like i'm attacking you this time i'm not.

=)

Regardless of whether it technically would work on a Wii (I mean surely they could in theory do a chopped down version for it? Look at the difference between PS2 and 360 versions of XI!) doesnt anyone else think it would be cool to swing the Wiimote about in XIV? Looking at the gameplay videos and how there are no autoattack and Left&Right arms do different things depending on what your doing, I can see it working to a fun degree with the Remote and Nunchuck.

I can see this post on my LS forums in a couple of years time:

"Ok guys we're going for the big kill tonight! As you know, this boss can take nearly an hour to kill so dont play on your Wii-- we need endurance!"

Well, you did quote my post in your response, and you did refer to the "killing gaming" line that was in my post. So, seeing as your reply was somewhat harsh, you obviously took some offense to what I said, even if you didn't mean for it to be an "attack". My post was not meant to be defensive, it was to state that opinions are opinions, and that I have no intentions on arguing my standpoint of the Wii.

I did not feel that my original Wii statement was unnecessary, it was meant to express contrast, and to show that the statement that I made favoring the Wii was made even though I am very critical of it. It wasn't meant to be just a random anti-Wii shot as you seem to have taken it.

I got a Wii, 360 and a PC - I'll be playing FFXIV on the latter, but that's simply because I prefer that set up. For me that's where MMO's belong.

If I had the option of playing it on the Wii however, I can't imagine that would be a good thing. Wii is very good at the cutesy, round little people that ride carts, kick, throw or bowl things, but to run something as beautiful as FFXIV is looking that would not be fair to those who would be playing it on PC, PS3 and 360. Lets face it, the game would look worse than FFXI (not that it looked bad in its day, but compared to Aion, Aoc and WAR it does look very dated).
