This is kind of a rip off from WoW, but to me it's a good idea that gets you to keep playing a game, and that's putting in like small, trackable goals into the game.

Achievements can be from basic ones like leveling and missions (like the xbox live ones), to doing some weird stuff (which I cant really think of since im not sure how the game mechanics are exactly). Achievements would be trackable in your game or profile whatever to see what ones you have. Each one would come with small in game rewards like a title, novelty items, or other things for the harder to get ones.

It would also be pretty cool if Link Shells (or whatever they are calling it) could set up a limited amount of their own achievements to be trackable throughout the whole shell. It could even be set up to include an automatic reward system from a guild bank or whatever (which is something they should implement).

Anywyas, tell me what you think.

As long as they aren't as brutal as the FFXI 360 achievements, I'm for it.

I loved achievements in WoW.
Sometimes I would get bored waiting for a group for some instance and they had this one achievement were you had to run around and say that you /love all these different animals.

Needless to say I spent HOURS making love to animals.

So long as they aren't either viewable by others or for things that could make them a potentual requirement for certain aspets of the game..

Again from WoW, some guilds might require certain acheivments as requirments to join, completely ignoring a new players skill for blips of pixles obtainable by the useless if they happen to have friends who can do it for them.

They'll be in the game. Except, they're called Trophies, at least, for the PS3 version.

All games released on Playstation 3 after Jan '09 are -required- to have Trophies, which are essentially a slightly improved achievement system.

Whether it'll be implemented into the in-game UI, or just left to the system it's played on to deal with, is still up for question, however.

You are right, this game will be required to have trophies. However, I believe the OP is talking about in-game achievements that a player can choose to do, not like trophies for the PS3 or for achievement points on the 360. The achievements would be viewable from an in-game menu, and could be simple little tasks that a player could do and be rewarding with something simple, like neat items or titles. (At least, that was the case in WoW)

Personally, I think this is a great idea and it would be cool to see SE implement something like this in FFXIV. =]

I'm surprised the anti-competition brigade hasn't arrived yet.

It would be cool, so long as the majority of achievements were frivolous like, "Walked 100 Steps" and not "OMGZ KILLED HUEG IMPOSSIBLE DRAGON"

Oh, I'm pretty sure that FFXI had its share of strange accomplishments.

No doubt they're hard at work finding ways to remind us to spend our time in a manner more beneficial to society.

I play in a higher end raiding guild in WoW and I've never seen a guild ask for achievements to join.

I've seen them inquire about experience and use that as part of the decision making process, and the addition of the Achievements system has meant that guilds can catch an awful lot of liars claiming to have cleared content they've never even seen, but having cleared certain content is rarely a criteria for acceptance in any guild worth joining.

PUG raids, yes. Guilds, not so much.

Achievements can be a fun little aspect of the game that can give you a sense of progression (and even rewards) without directly affecting the gameplay. Silly titles and vanity items can add flavor to the game, and it provides a bit of direction if you need a break from the grind.

I like the idea of achievements. I love 360 and WoW achievements and I hope they implement the idea into FFXIV.
