I just saw G-Star2009 version "Blades and Soul" made by NC soft Korea.
It looks awsom. I wish I get a chance to play this game as well. If FFXIV postpond to 2011, it will be difficult choice for me to pick a game....

The amount of MMOs NCsoft pumps out alone has to make you question their quality and devotion to it.

I bet there'll be Blades, but I doubt there'll be a Soul in that game.

Even if it was "better" than XIV, I don't think I'd play it for that reason alone.

The amount of blood splattering about reminds me of Mortal Kombat. I'm not interested in the game one bit.

And you've learned this... how? Lots of people are waiting for this game to be released so they can play it.

When the company puts out MMO's like yearly sequels of Madden, how can you expect this one to have a Soul? I honestly wouldn't be fooled by the graphics and flashy combat one bit.

If they deviate away from the typical korean mmo standard, I'll play this... if FFXIV and the new Crysta currency involves purchasing in-game items. Otherwise, sticking with FFXIV.

Would you not buy Street Fighter IV because you can buy additional costumes for it's characters for 5 bucks? Even if the game is good?

If so, you do have your priorities right.

I don't really support DLC content simply because you don't have a physical copy of it. If you're ever banned from PSN or Xbox Live, say goodbye to all that content you purchased as well. The Lost and the Damned and the Ballad of *** Tony however is DLC that I do support. There is a physical disc copy you can buy and play.

I'm a heavy SF4 player but I didn't buy any of the costume packs since 5$ for clothing which doesn't do anything is useless. Not to mention, they charged money for the multiplayer portion of RE5 so i'm definitely never ever buying any sort of DLC from capcom, ever.

But not to stray off topic, I didn't watch the Blade & Soul trailer until now and it looks a lot better. I thought it was the same old trailer since that trailer was pretty long and so is this one. I'll try it out but I'm not sure if i'll play it casually unless it pulls me in like FFXI did.

I will play whatever game is most fun. I'm a bit of a fanboy when it comes to Final Fantasy, but the combat looks quite addictive in Blade & Soul.
I love the blood splattering, by the way.

For some reason, though, I don't see the two games as being very competitive.
Blade & Soul looks great but it doesn't look like it will have any of the same focuses as Final Fantasy XIV.

Besides, we haven't even really seen any decent gameplay footage yet for XIV.
The demo at Gamescom didn't show anything off at all.

Aion was a bit dif then your standard korean grindathon and NCsoft REALLY wants the american market. Aside from that, Blade and soul LOOKS amazing graphically, and the fighting in it is like no other mmo that is out in terms of its physics. It looks very good, I'm wanting to try it and FFXIV

In hentai terms this would be like: Super cool giant tentacle robot monster (SE) vs Tied up schoolgirl (NCSoft). Ya tied up schoolgirls are **** and all but tentacle monster is going to win repeatedly and cream all over its competition.

Wonderfull analagy, I can see the Malboro going after any number of scantily clad woman from that video hehe.

Blade & Soul looks like yet another pretty Asia MMO, like most others have said the real question is if there will be anything new and interesting about the game aside from the flashy grafics and half naked woman running around everywhere.
If they have actualy bothered to make the system based around something other than the clasic "GO GRIND!" asian mmo mentality then it might be worth some time... it would take a tremendously good game to make me want to play it more the FFXIV though.

I remember I saw the trailer for Blade and Soul a long time ago... I was very interested...but there hasent't really been any new info on the game. I know it's made by the same team who made lineage, and L3 is quite a while away.

I do plan on testing FFXIV, since I have a lot of friends from my old server planning on coming back, but it's not like there are not other MMOs coming out (Blade and Soul, KOTOR, and so on), you could say in a way that MMOs have went hollywood.

Oh, Blade and Soul somewhat reminded me of Bleach.

How in the world could blade and soul possibly look better than FFXIV at this point? Have you even watched the trailers? Compare the two side by side. I'm all for opinions and everything but that's hysterical. The amount of work, and effort being put into FFXIV, and the amount of art and creativity being put into it, compared to another one of NCsofts yearly MMO's? One that just looks like another cheaply produced, shiny MMO with nice graphics and some cool battle scenes? My God, seriously?

You know, this is hilarious. I keep hearing this over and over. "NCsoft wants the American Market Really Bad". Yet they continue to pace the game at an extremely slow and typical korean grind fest pace. I will admit, it's not as bad as most, but it's not a lot different than Lineage 2 and many others were. If they want the American market Really Bad like I keep hearing over and over, they need to reduce the grind, and possibly add some more content.

They need to get with the times, because as people have shown and companies like Blizzard and Square Enix have wised up about, people are tired of dedicating their entire life or too much of their time to a MMORPG, they want to make progress, and have fun, without spending too much time. The consumer has become wiser over the past couple of years.

I don't have faith in NCsoft at all. Comparing the two companies, especially their demographics is a bit laughable. We have Square Enix, which is and has been one of the top ranked video game developers, who are putting so much into something, compared to a company that just produces yearly MMO's. It's almost an insult honestly.

The funny thing of it all, is I remember not long ago the thread "Will FFXIV hold up against Aion?", and now this. I wonder how many more NCsoft titles FFXIV will need to "Hold up against". I have a feeling FFXIV is going to be a big hit and really take the MMORPG world by storm when it comes out, and they don't need to worry about NCsofts current quarterly MMO.

With all this talk about grinding I'm wondering if people even remember playing FFXI, or if they've already forgotten it. On the other hand, at least Blade and Soul is an action MMO, so at least you'll be doing something while you're grinding.

Too early to tell of course, but if I were to go purely on how the games -look- as they've been presented, Blade and Soul looks like a better game to me, graphically and otherwise. There's plenty of potential for it to be a hollow shell of a game wherein XIV will be a deeply enriched experience, but from what is known so far of both games, I wouldn't jump to that conclusion.

Though for me Blade and Soul is the clear winner on graphics. I don't even like playing on PC, but ****, I might play that game just to appreciate the art.

You are underestimating NCsoft. Square Enix is top ranked video game developer; however, NCsoft is also top ranked online game developer. Furthermore, do you know the incident of a suspected theft of software code and technology for online game "Lineage III" to a major Japanese game company start out as S? When Square Enix team first introduced FFXIV, a lot of people actually suspected Square Enix. Furthermore, those people who involved in stealing admitted as well.

The Lineage series has enjoyed much success in the Korean market, though it has been overshadowed in the United States by the popularity of other MMOs, such as Verant Interactive's EverQuest and Blizzard's World of Warcraft. Together, Lineage and Lineage II (pictured left) have brought in over KRW 1.5 trillion (US$1.6 billion) for NCsoft.

According to Seoul Metropolitan police, seven ex-employees of NCsoft are suspected in the incident. Police speculate the theft likely occurred during a series of job interviews with an as-yet-unnamed Japanese company in February, in which those former employees provided examples of their software work. Those seven are also believed to have played a part in the leak of the Lineage III program design this past September.

Citing police and industry insiders, the article also details a recent internal struggle within NCsoft. Following the dismissal of a senior game developer as a result of poor leadership skills, the Digital Chosun Ilbo claims, most of NCsoft's 90-person development team quit.

It doesn't say which "Japanese" competitor it was, but if they TRULY pulled in $1.6billion USD for 1/2 then the only company that can fight in Japan along with that; (that I know of) is Square-Enix.

That being said, IDK what to think. Wouldn't suprise me personally if they did hire them. Square is always wanting to get talented people, and like it/believe it or not, NCSoft does have talented programmers working for them.

I got Aion. It's personally not as grinding as everyone says it is, I even get exp from crafting which at this point gives mea bout 1mil/hour exp at the lowest crafts for my level (217). Rumor is the exp/craft is about 4-5k each at 450, so while people complain of grind, that's about 3-4mil/hour in exp. Crafting is pretty nice in Aion. You get all your ingredients, get your order and if you have enough to craft 48 times, you hit "craft all" o.O

Anyway's FF14 will be it's own beast on it's own. Each game has it's merits and depending on how/what YOU want to play, go play it and be happy since your the one paying for it. :)

You mad? I have a lot of faith in FFXIV but have you compared the trailers?
Almost everything we've seen so far of FFXIV has been a cutscene/cinematic.

The only real gameplay we've seen was at Gamescom and can you really say you were impressed with that?
What I saw was boring and slow, and definitely not better looking than Aion or Blade and Soul. FFXI 1.5.
In every video the Lalafell just stands there getting hit and doesn't cast any magic at all...

There's tons of gameplay in the Blade & Soul trailers and it looks fast paced and fun. It's obviously not going to use a traditional MMO targetting system and a lot of the movement/exploring reminds me of Prince of Persia (running on walls). It looks like a quality title.

Having said that, I have a lot more faith in FFXIV because I love FFXI so much. I can live with a FFXI 1.5, although I'm hoping for more. It's still stupid to bash a games company for producing a lot of MMORPGs... they don't even make that many, and it's the only type of game they make. Square Enix makes a lot more games, they're just single player.

Are you kidding me? The reason NCsoft makes so many MMO's is because they usually fail. If you make a successful MMORPG you don't need a bunch of them. Take WoW for example. If your MMO's are successful there's only so many of them you're going to need to produce. Their MMO's are popular for awhile, then die out, they have short life spans. NCsoft is also known as a company who doesn't do a lot of things right, and keeps a lot of systems traditional while other MMORPG companies stay with the times and trends.

I still can't believe people are comparing the two trailers, and you even talk about the gameplay of FFXIV not stacking up? That's probably because it's a **** Alpha build like people have had to repeat over 9000 times. But no, I watch the trailers and I notice the things like cinematics. On one hand you have a game that is obviously going to be an amazing adventure, online, with a incredible story. Something that looks deep and rich, and something that looks like you can really become enveloped in.

On the other hand, you have a game that is pretty and shiny and has a lot of flashy combat and what not. I still can't believe people don't realize this isn't the key to a successful MMORPG, it's like putting lipstick on a pig. They are still using the same kind of graphic technologies they used for Lineage 2 and Aion, it's still probably going to be a boring grind, and it will also probably have a fairly shallow story with open world PvP, just like all their MMO's pretty much.

If what NCsoft does appeals to you it's just fine, but saying the trailer for Blade and Soul looks better than the current FFXIV trailers is just... I dunno, maybe you're in the wrong forum? To each their own.

But to what extent as a player is quality a function of longevity? My first reaction to that Blade and Soul trailer was that there's no way they'll be able to release consistent, quality updates of that caliber with sufficient content. But I don't particularly care if a game lasts "only" a year as long as it's a good year.

Reputation doesn't concern me so much as what's sitting right in front of me, and as far as I'm concerned, FFXI's reputation is not very favorable, either. If FFXIV manages to drag on as a boring game for three times as long as Blade and Soul, it won't mean a thing to the players who are going to quit after two years anyway.

Don't know about you guys but the reason why Korean game developers make so many MMOs is because of cash shop. With one MMO, there will be players who get to the end fairly quickly and spend a fortune of money on the cash shop. They'll eventually leave, and they'll make another MMO that they will flock to.

As far as graphics are concerned with B&S and FFXIV, they have two different art styles so it's hard to compare both of them in terms of which have better graphics. In general though, B&S does have better graphics but FFXIV overall has more detail. It's hard to compare since they're different art styles but that's what it seems. B&S is going for an anime kind of look where FFXIV looks a bit realistic fantasy compared to most MMOs. Personally, for me B&S looks better in terms of character models but FFXIV has way better environments and detail.

Honestly, all I saw in that Blade and Soul preview was a lot of camera angle changes, explosions, and shiny things. It's like a game's equivalent to an action movie that just shakes the camera to create a more intense fight scene. Could be good, could be bad, all I know is I was a bit dizzy after watching it.

I love how everyone is still comparing the graphics of the two games when we haven't even seen the finished product of what FFXIV will look like. Do we need to make a god **** post it note and put it in front of people's faces?

THE FFXIV GAMEPLAY/SCREENSHOTS/IN GAME FOOTAGE YOU HAVE SEEN SO FAR IS BASED OFF OF A ALPHA BUILD. THAT ALPHA BUILD AS IS LOOKS VERY GOOD, AND THEY SAID AT GAMESCOM THAT THE GRAPHICS WERE NOT COMPLETE

Maybe that will get through to some people. Also agreeing with the poster above me who was talking about how it's just a bunch of flashy camera angles and some polished up graphics. To be honest, with games like crysis and what not out there these days, graphics isn't everything, and making them look stunning is easy as ever. The art and style itself will do a lot more for you to be honest. But having the sharpest graphics in the world doesn't do sh*t for your game if the playability of the thing is poor.

Hey look, NC soft made another lame MMO with shiny graphics and no depth. Why don't we all run out and buy it so we can all play for a couple months before getting bored and going back to waiting for SE to release the next half page of information on a game that won't be out for another year?

If you can't tell I'm rather disgusted at the prospects of both games at this point.

How do you know what you're seeing from Blade & Soul isn't from an alpha build as well? It isn't release yet and FFXIV is not released as well so it isn't a fair comparison since they're both unreleased games.

However, they both will generally look like how they look now. The graphics aren't going to be completely overhauled from what we've seen so far with FFXIV.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GiAJj3mHR Different, but not hugely different from when FFXI was released. Even though that trailer may not even be Beta footage, it sure does look like it from when I first played FFXI back in Nov of 03.

At this point I'm pretty confident that Blade and Soul will be graphically superior to FFXIV, at least as a matter of style as far as my personal preference goes. Thus far the style of XIV doesn't look like it will differ that substantially from XI, which I only liked relative to Western MMO styles, but does not compare to the styles of many other Eastern MMOs. This includes the way the characters and monsters move.

I don't really even care about resolution, pixel details, etc... at some point it's all about the same to me. I doubt the differences will be significant, particularly going off of what I've seen of both games.

I'll probably play FFXIV, and probably won't play Blade and Soul (purely on the basis of not liking a keyboard/mouse interface), but already I'm somewhat hoping that the latter is the better game just because it's so vastly more stylistically appealing to me.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

NCSoft fails at MMOs. While people try that game, I'll be improving my FF14 character.
