It's pretty ridiculous that I've been gone for over a month and come back to nothing. The last actual announcement about the weapons was pretty pathetic, too.

Somehow this marketing faux pas had better translate into a better end product.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I agree, it is getting pretty ridiculous that we have to wait this long for little snippets of information about a game SE has been working on for so long. I know not everything is finalized, but come on! SOMETHING has to be set in stone they can show us!

Maybe I'm missing something here, but if there's any game that doesn't -need- to be hyped it's FFXIII. You don't compete with FFXIII. "It's on shelves now," is all the sales pitch you need. I'm exaggerating of course, but my point is that I don't see how promoting XIV can in any substantial way take away sales from XIII. If there's any game from SE with ample competition and consumer reservation that's in need of promoting, it's XIV.

Part of it is Marketing coordinating with Developers.

Although scheduling and planning are things people do spend oodles of time and energy on; the exact project end date isn't something that's decided on until very late. This is for many reasons, but mostly because there isn't really a standardized procedure to production when each project is so unique (comparatively speaking to the movie industry), and the fact videogames have to rely on the notoriously fickle art of programming.

Marketing is forced into a position where it has to cool it's jets until the developers are ready. Else it runs the risk of spending money advertising for a release date that won't actually be met, or releasing all the information they have available and not having anything left to fuel the Hype machine.

It has nothing to do with coordination with developers. They have enough content and info that they can easily launch a mass marketing program.

It's politics.

b/c ff14 is so good that nobody is going to buy ff13 if they market ff14. they want the double purchase. For people who know about ff14 already and want to skip buying ff13, they can use beta keys to make people purchase 13. As 13 is not an MMO, there is no recurring revenue to play it, so they need as many early purchases as possible.

They would also be ******** the ps3 if they heavily market ff14, b/c most purchases would come on ps3 for ff13, but pc for ff14. They need to do whatever they can to ensure max purchases possible so I highly doubt that we'll see any major ff14 marketing.

Once everyone on ff13 is satisfied with the opening sales, expect ff14 info.

Lots of good points here. I'm thinking as well that firstly, they don't want to push XIV with XIII barely being released as one poster said. When does XIII come out in the US though - isn't it a little behind the Japanese release? Though I very highly doubt SE will not give us anything new until XIII is released in all markets, I can understand them putting out info slowly at this time.

Why hype and announce content that would be cut in the end? No sense there because then the playerbase would see the developer losing credibility and hence, subscribers if they couldn't deliver the fact.

I too still totally enjoy XI but am excited for XIV. No problem for me to wait and see to let them create the world they need the time to create.

On the reverse side though, if SE didn't announce XIV even existed until say, last month and launched the site, would people be any less clamoring for info? Though granted I don't think it's good to announce something then not give info about it, hey, we've gone 5+ years until now without much (if any) knowledge of the game. A few more short months until beta won't kill anyone hardcore about playing it I think...

But the thing is it's going on almost 4 months since we got some good, solid info (gamescon demo).

The armor update last month was a pathetic excuse with a picture of a weapon (a sword of all things) and a little blurb about two jobs.

Tell us more about a new city, give some screenshots of a zone, battle system info, anything.

I agree with the OP , even if it was just something small updated every two weeks..**** even 3 weeks would keep potential new players interested as well as veterans of FFXI . I'm still waiting on the other two city state discriptions . SE give us some more info!!!

why do you even want to know? you cant play it yet and knowing 8 months ahead of time doesnt help you out any better. i like not know anything about a game before i play it. It makes playing it that much more exciting, if you really want to know whats going to be in the game sign up for the beta. other than that stop whining about a game that is over half a year away.

I was thinking, surely with Beta coming out arguably early next year, Square-Enix will release most of the info by then right? Or at least the main info such as jobs etc..? Just a thought...

even if they don't, the beta players will leak everything.

Not here, they won't. Pikko already stated that anyone who violates the NDA will be banned.

I highly doubt that will hinder what is essentially an inevitability of the process. I don't intend to leak anything if I get in the beta, but I imagine there's a pretty substantial percentage of those applying that have no qualms about anonymously revealing every detail, and SE will have absolutely no means of prevention or recourse. It's sort of baffling that they still try.
