So I signed up for the beta, but did anyone else notice you had to check a box saying that you have some sort of fan site? It was the last question. I just put I have a fan site for something else, even though I don't have any fan site.
#8 Dec 16 2009 at 4:38 PM Rating: Excellent
I had to sign up under the US beta, as my SE ID is tied to a US FF11 account...
I think I shall just bite the 10 quid and get a second token and account for my UK version of FF14 when it eventually appears.

Edit: And then, of course, it occured to me to just make the new EU account right now :p

Since I'm not going to be able to participate in the beta until the PS3 version comes out, I'm mad that I have to just watch other play it...

So, if you're signing up and looking at pursuing a mage type class, PM me you can fill me in with the latest info! :)

You'll be my own personal feed hehe.

From the looks of it, you can apply for the PS3 beta as well (at least in the US region).

Well.

I submitted the application. Only thing to do now is to curl up and hope I get in!

Yes, everyone will no doubt be placed under NDA. I think they eventually lift it closer to release, but I don't know how it works for SE.

Yeah, I did the same thing.

I was a little disappointed that there was absolutely no essay portion :/ I guess they're pretty much only interested in getting a diverse demographic sample.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I'm sure people will show their friends clips. Then it will eventually spread. I'm guessing people will just blur their names or maybe just talk about it behind a masked voice.

SE is just a gaming company, not a private investigation service. Those who decide to disclose information (and maybe do it well?) shouldn't have any problems.

Common non-disclosure agreement. Means you can't say anything other than the fact that you got into beta...as my guild members often said as we entered Warhammer and Global Agenda betas: "There is a beta and I am in it."

i see that there will be a beta for ps3..maybe..at a later date, but i think they would want to test them at the same time...because..that..is what i want..!

Actually, most closed beta NDA agreements state explicitly that you can't even disclose the fact that you're in the beta at all. I highly recommend reading the agreement closely if you are accepted.

Cool! :)

Yes, there is an option to tick your preferred platform on the UK one too. I ticked PS3 as I don't think my PC will be able to handle it.

But I'd give it a try. ;)

Trick question then? "Do you run a fan website" and then they ask you to link it, I guess they'll be watching like a hawk for leaked info?

Some of the questions were odd for a Beta test imo. I liked how they ask you about FFXI though, and they can obviously check out your history from your PoL ID

Here's hoping we get a response before 2010!

Careful mate, If that means you applied twice.

From what I read if you apply more than once your applications will be disregarded.

So how long does a selection process usually take before the beta actually launches?

One piece of advice probably worth taking is to be honest on your application. If you try to guess what they want to hear, you might be wrong. Most of all they're probably looking for diversity: players from different locations, with high end and low end machines, with experience with MMOs and with no experience at all. You never know what trait you have that could get you in.

Yeah, I'm kinda wondering if I should have said that my FFXI account was active, or that I had quit. Both are truish-- the account is active, but it won't be for long. I said that I had quit with hopes that they'll value my insights as a dissatisfied customer.

I was just about to say the same thing.

SE would most probably want to hear the opinions of all sorts of players. A mixed bag of experiences.

Signed up. Boy I sure hope I get into Beta. Have an extremely fast internet connection, top of the line PC, can play 72+ hours a week, have played FFXI for 6 years, have lead several linkshells with 30+ members, rated my excitement level at 100, have a dedicated FFXIV fansite, etc etc. I really really hope I get into this! Been looking forward to it since before the game was even announced.

About a Month, give or take a week.

At least, most of the titles lately tend to follow that timeline. SE is in a bit of a unique situation with their infrastructure, so plan for the worst but hope for the best.

oh well, i'm just happy that the beta is starting. that really let's you know the game is coming.
