oh well, i'm just happy that the beta is starting. that really let's you know the game is coming.

I think the last option is meant to be a "none" but is mistranslated or something. (since checking it doesn't open another question for the URL)

That would explain why I didn't have to give an url and why there was no "none" option.

There was an option for none at least for the UK version - the very last check-box I believe.

I said no as I certainly don't (but do blogs count I wonder?), but I imagine they are just trying to preclude conflict of interests later on by flagging individuals now who the confidentiality rules may need to bestressed before commencing the BETA.

I did pick the last option. You are probably correct about it being slightly mistranslated. It was the closest to "none" out of all the options, so it just made sense.

I registered for the EU beta and there was an option for "None of the above" for the last question.

I was in the beta test for ff11, and after sign ups were posted, people began getting e-mails about a month afterward, and then it took about another month for them to receive their beta packages in the mail.

Now adays, I'm sure they won't do packages, and instead just have downloads and keys. But I wouldn't expect an e-mail till at least mid January.

I really hope that last question wasn't a "Trick Question" so that they can not invite you if you are a risk and run a FFXIV site... That would really suck because I put down my blog...

I too am attempting to submit an application for the beta, but it seems that the submit button isn't working.

Also, when I use internet explorer or google chrome, the beta site doesn't seem to function at all. The only way I was able to get to the survey was through firefox.

Good luck trying to get into the beta guys! It's really frustrating hitting the submit button and have no response :p

I was just about to post something like this.
I clicked the last one, no URL came up, so I ran with it.

My comp so can't handle FF14, but meh.

I picked the last one on the fan site thing as well. I also chose Quests, Storyline, and Player Interaction as the top 3 choices for me. I love quests and am a completionist. And with quests comes a vast amount of storyline which I have always loved personally. And if it weren't for player interaction I never would have played this game for more than 4 years+ like I have. It is very interesting that PvP was one of the choices. I guess this might cause speculation that they have already added PvP to some degree into the game. Regardless, today is my birthday and this was the best birthday present in the World.

Same. Can't get the page to load. I just got an e-mail from them saying the beta is open, so that's probably why. Everyone and their mother who signed up should be trying right about now.

If you want my advice I would just try again in a few hours or maybe tomorrow. They aren't going by who registers first, they are most likely going to allot everyone in to different categories depending on their answers and then doing an SRS (simple random sample).

Was there an interview where they mentioned the approximate size of the initial beta? Wasn't it only a few thousand people? I can't remember now, but the odds are probably against us.

Quote:

"The first round of beta testing will be done with a relatively small group and be conducted worldwide. It won’t be a continuously running beta test but broken down into small 3 or 4 hour tests held at different times. They plan on doing very detailed testing on FFXIV so users will see how the game develops over time. At the beginning, tests will only be conducted with the Windows version. From the initial 3 or 4 hour tests they will expand to daily or weekly beta tests that run for 24 hours a day. After that comes stress tests which will require a lot of people. Tanaka says it could start with 10 thousand people and go up from there to 20, 40, and 80 thousand people. Finally, there will be a free open beta. Originally he thought it would take half a year to go from a development build to the open beta, but he now thinks it will be shorter than that. The interviewer guesses at a summer release based on that and Tanaka says it all depends on the feedback they get from players during the beta testing"

http://www.finalfantasy14-online.com/forum/ffxiv-beta-information.php

Now, that sounds really big to me.
Even if he means the stress testing is starting at 10k, and not the test as a whole is starting at 10k. That ends up being some ambitious numbers for even a portion of the Closed Beta. They really seem to be thinking big.

Having the same problem someone posted on the previous page about the login page just refreshing when I hit Log In. It knows when my password is wrong, but when it's right nothing happens. I'm using a security token too but that doesn't seem to do anything. This happens in two different browsers and my iPhone, so perhaps my account is broken or something, but I can log in to the main members page just fine. Stranger yet, my friend was just able to log in (with a token no less) and sign up, so I don't buy that the servers are too taxed.

Perhaps you need an active FFXI account?

for those of you still having difficulties on signing ups, be patient.

they have emphasized the beta is not in a first come first serve basic, all you have to do is sign up and cross your fingers.

I'm super excited to get into the beta, I applied, saying I would play over 72 hours a week. I have windows 7, so I'm hoping that might give me a bit of a leg up. I wasn't sure whether to tell them I currently play FFXI, because I wouldn't want them thinking "oh, well, he would either quit and lose us money, or would spend all his time on XI." But I told them and gave them my account ID. The only thing I'm worried about is the enthusiasm question. I put 82, so I hope they don't disqualify me on that lol.

That is such a good idea...I should have thought of that.

I put my laptop specs down which were pretty good for a laptop 2 years ago but now it's starting to show its age. I plan on building a computer soon though...I should have done what you did...wonder if I can change it.

Grrr, doesn't seem like it.
