So Ive just trundled into work, and as part of my daily get-ready routine checked these forums to see if there is any more juicy tid-bits to find this posted! Yay for beta! Unfortunately, I now have to endure the full day knowing I cant apply for it yet because my token is at home blu-tacked to my monitor!

Nooooooooooo!

That is such a good idea...I should have thought of that. t

Haha, exactly what I did too. I was planning on building a PC in May when I graduate, but I might be inclined to get started on it sooner depending if I get into the beta or not.

I put down Zam as the fan site I run... I thought they just meant do you go to a dedicated FF XIV site. I hope this doesn't affect my chances for getting in.

Yeah, I'm still wondering if me putting down my blog was a bad thing to do. I just thought it showed you as a big fan or something, I hope it doesn't hurt my chances... *worry*

I would hope that with the mistake on the application regarding the fan site thing, they'd have to just trash that portion of the applications received before they change it to what it should be.

If you have any microcenters by you, see if they still have any i7 920's left. I got the second to last one from the one by me. 217.25 after tax for a 920 <3.

Hehe, when it asked to log into your Square Enix ID I somewhat panicked because I forgot where my security token was. After 30 minutes of tearing apart the room, I was relieved to find it =P

I ticked I can only play for like 12 hours a week, or whatever the option was. I hope they want people who don't have huge amounts of time to play. The reason I've had to stop playing FFXI for now is I just don't have the time to put in to it anymore. (Not enough time to really achieve anything more than a few k exp an evening anyway) I really hope that's something they've addressed in FFXIV!

Beta Test Application Website Congestion (Dec. 16): Follow-up

We would like to take this opportunity to provide an update regarding the congestion of FINAL FANTASY XIV beta test application website.

The congestion caused by heavy server traffic is continuing to ease. However depending on the situation, there is a possibility where the website may become unavailable. Our staff will continue to keep an eye on the situation and work to resolve this issue. In case the website becomes unavailable, we ask that you please try it again later.

* Tester will be selected by random from all submitted applications for the beta test, not based on order of submission.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

That starred information is kind of odd. On the rules page of the beta signup it says that applications will be considered by the order of submission. On their update it says they will be selected at random. Not sure which one is true. Perhaps since they were having difficulty with the website, those applications that were submitted during that time will be considered at random and those received after will return to first come first serve. I don't know.

Crap, i misread the check box types and only clicked on the PC version. Oh well.

Signed up and found it a little strange that you had to select a option for the fan site. I don't run a fan site so I picked the option of something not related to any of the above. It didn't ask me for a link though.

I need a new game to test. The crack that is FFXI just isn't giving the same high as it used to.

No, the signup says "Priority will not be given to applications based on order of submission." The confusing part is that it also says "Tester selection will be based solely upon the content of applications," which makes the starred part even more confusing, because it implied there was no randomness involved, but now they're saying it will include a random factor.

lol, did I accidentally ***** my chances by listing myself as a high school student? Just noticed you need to be 18+.

(However I'm pretty sure I'm 18 according to my SE account)

My application looks pretty good with i5 proccesor, 4GB+ Ram, 58xx ATI series... years of FFXI experience, etc.

Also glad I hung onto the security token lol

Why would it? Most people are 18 before the end of their senior year.

No, you only need to use your token if you have a token. People with a Square-Enix ID that is not tied to a token do not need to enter the 6 digit one-time password, just their normal SE ID and password.

Also, if you never applied for a Square-Enix ID while playing FFXI, you can sign up for it now before sending a Beta app.

Hmm... I've tried signing up using my correct SE id and password, it just keeps refreshing the page as if I entered the wrong password, with no error message. If I purposely enter the wrong password, it tells me so, so I know I'm using the right password.

I've tried on 2 different computers, with 3 different browsers.

I wonder if they are going to request a DXDIAG report at some point. I put down my true system specs. I assume they are going to pick from all specs from poopy to top of the line, but it makes me wonder. If they see a majority of the submissions have top of the line specs listed, would they just say split the results even more into low, mid, high end and then pick from those 3 categories to make sure they are not over saturated with one spec? Just curious as it seems alot of people are listing top of the line Windows 7 specs. I guess basing it off a dxdiag report would be better.

People are listing top of the line PCs for no reason. You'll probably only get denied based on PC specs if your PC is totally below the minimum requirement.

And at that point, why would you want to test the game?

I don't think they will follow up by requesting a DxDiag. I think if Square Enix wanted the file they would have requested that users upload it in their application (which I've seen other companies do for their closed beta phases).

Most likely they will send you an email and have you do a benchmark test (similar to how XI had their benchmarks) before ever sending you an actual copy and entering you into their beta. I truly hope SE didn't put it past the community to lie in their applications and have a second stage of acceptance.
#134 Dec 17 2009 at 1:47 PM Rating: Excellent
They probably want a variety of PC specifications for testing because there's no point only testing on UBER PCs OF DOOM! When the chances are that the average consumer isn't going to have a PC anywhere near that good.

I would think maybe they just want to keep tabs on all the fan sites around. Possibly visit them throughout the beta to make sure they are not posting anything and breaking the NDA.

I found this out the hard way through a near 2-hour live chat with a representative. A Square Enix account is not the same as a Square Enix Members account. I was getting this reload issue because I was putting in the wrong password (which was the right password for my Members account, go figure) as well as a one-time from my token. Turns out I never originally registered my token with my account, so even after putting in the proper password, putting in the one-time was only messing it up further. Even more confusing was that I have the same user ID for both accounts, so I was able to log in to the Members site just fine, which it sounds like is the case for you.

Do yourself a favor and reset your password using the automated form. Double check that your registered email address is the correct one associated with your SE account (not SE Members account) and make sure you're appropriately using/not using a security token.

Aweseme, thanks TraumaFox! I didn't realize the SE ID and the SE Member ID were two different things (who would've thought?). I had to sign up for the SE account, even though I already had the SE Member account. I'm all signed up now.

I too am pegging it for a september release, but they did say they were hoping for a release client in the summer time and they said they are ahead of schedule as it is 'since' that interview. At any rate I definitely don't see it being dragged out into November as most betas are no where near that long 'unless' there are some huge issues with the game like a full rewrite of central gameplay mechanics that they didn't intend to change.

Plus with this being their second undertaking into the MMORPG market, they probably have much more conservative idea on just when they game will be ready than they had with FFXI, which for all intents and purposes came much earlier (from concept to client release) than this MMORPG has already lol. Came out from concept to release in 4 years time or less and this game has already gone beyond 4 years without even beta till now (first concept/announcement came during E3 2005, and they didn't even have a graphics engine ready than yet either, and that doesn't include time it took them to make all the new assets and designs for that tech demo).

As for when betas will actually start, im guessing either right before new years (after christmas) or right after new years holidays in Japan, which bring it to around January 16th or so. Hopefully they spend the time waiting for beta clients to be oked by putting more new info up on the main site... preferably more info on the other city-states or **** even just an in game look at one of them other than from a distance with limsa-lominsa. (my hope obviously lol)

Some of the questions were odd for a Beta test imo. I liked how they ask you about FFXI though, and they can obviously check out your history from your PoL ID

Here's hoping we get a response before 2010!

Not a trick question. They'll prolly give preference to people like Piko who run/work for sites like Alla. Wouldn't surprise me a bit. Like the old saying goes, "it's who you know that counts."

I am just happy the beta is starting soon. Considering they have been giving us info each month for the past few months I am guessing it's going to be starting sometime mid next month. This should mean the game will definitely come out in 2010.

If I remember right (and I might be mistaken... it's been a while), Final Fantasy XI was released to the public less than a month after the US beta ended. The beta itself was only 2-3 months long. Granted, the game had already been released in Japan so most of the extensive testing had already been done..
