Took me a while to get the application sorted out because its been so long since I last logged in to PlayOnline. Spent an afternoon ringing SE-EU customer support and found that even though I have a security token I couldnt use it to log in because I never 'linked' my PlayOnline account with my Square-Enix one. Just a tip for those of you out there that might have this problem. I logged on and registered finally and found the questions pretty straightforward. The question remains now, if SE want a tester from the Middle-East, over 35, male that used to play FFXI for at least 12-124 per week. Lol its funny but isnt this going to be like some sort of lottery for those of us that are viewing this forum regularly? I did run my own FFXI Beastmaster forum for a time but it didnt give me the option to state that shame - hope it doesnt hurt my chances :()

If I remember right (and I might be mistaken... it's been a while), Final Fantasy XI was released to the public less than a month after the US beta ended. The beta itself was only 2-3 months long. Granted, the game had already been released in Japan so most of the extensive testing had already been done..

Yeah FFXI beta test was a bit different because of the gap in time between releases. They only needed to test localization and server stuff for the NA beta. The Japanese Beta lasted about 5-6 months if I remember correctly and was fairly open (unlike the NA beta test lol). They said FFXIV beta test would be somewhere in the middle between FFXI beta test period (jp release not NA) and WoWs which was closer to 9 months. So take that as you will lol.

I apologize if this has been asked before, but how will SE contact us? I read that it will be by email, but they never ask for an email address? Are they referring to the POL account?

No, you have to register an email with your SE account, and its with your SE account that you apply for the beta :) Whatever email you used to register your SE account will be how SE will contact you regarding beta selection.

Obviously it'll be the email tied to the square enix account that you had to make to sign up

I really hope this beta is AMD Friendly, i have an AMD build and it is pretty beast... but you never know how a beta will go with the programming.

i mean look at bioshock... it took me like... weeks to figure out how to mod the code so i could play it...

i just hope they don't dismiss my app just because of my amd hardware.

Seeing as it's one of the leading chip manufacturers it would be pretty silly for SE to alienate that portion of the consumer base.

Did anyone get an email from the FFXIV site for beta sign up?

Because I registered every single one of my email addresses with them, and I haven't received a single email. You would think if they were going to send an important update email, beta sign-up would be the one.

I got one, on both email accounts, but it was a day AFTER I had already signed up for the beta.

Might wanna keep in mind that I signed up for the european site though, so might be different?

Yea, thanks. That was five years ago and I can't remember what email address I used. It would have made sense to have them verify your email address is still good instead of just assuming you still use an old one.

I got my Email on Thursday morning (GMT+1, German time), but didn't notice it when looking into my folder- I only noticed it later, after I had learned of the beta from Allakhazam. XD

Here's hoping they take a German male with a baddish PC. :o

The newsletter thing was all messed up. I signed up the first day you could but I never received anything from that so a few days later I made a gmail account and signed up with that, been receiving newsletters ever since, including one about beta signups (though, I had already signed up for it hours previously).

I think we'll get the email by the end of January latest. I wouldn't expect to hear anything before mid-January though.

After spending several days fruitlessly searching for my acct info, I gave up and just registered my email so I could do it that way. I don't want to spend hours on the phone with em, am working a lot of hours til after Xmas.

The email I received from SE said this:

I'm gonna get right on this, need to send in my app! /sigh

Two applications were sent from my computer, one from me, one from my fiance. I hope that didn't ruin my chances of getting in.
Either way, I'll probably give in and just buy a code if I don't make it.

Buy a code? What do you mean? I was under the impression that they send you the beta version of the game in the post? Or did I get that wrong?

OMG!!! I'll sign up tomorrow.

When you sign up, do you download the game? If so, can anyone post some screenies?

We did not get a download for the game for signing up, and it is against the NDA rules to post screenshots or any other information about the game if you ARE selected for the BETA. When you sign up, I highly recommend reading through the NDA rules, these aren't the type of rules you can just click "accept" to without reading them. They are very specific, and you will be kicked out of the BETA if they find you breaking these rules. And yes, they will be watching for NDA breakers.

For example, if they find out you simply told someone you were selected into the BETA, they'll kick you out of it. As someone else mentioned, early non-SE press is almost always bad press. They're not going to risk it.
