Judging by those screens we are probably going to get info on Ul'dah next. Looks like a desert environment in the first screenshot. The first one looks like the in game version of the Ogre though (although its still a bit different), the Single horned beastmen guys look very good though. Im really liking the effects on the monsters as well, should hopefully look really good in motion.

Can't be an ogre. First, I doubt ogres will be that big but most importantly that thing is covered in fire and has a snout like a dragon (not saying it's a dragon, just has a snout like one).

I'm a bit upset about that other beast with only one horn though...it looks so cool...it's just ruined with that single horn coming out of it's head. Just give it one more horn, cmon.

They actually remind me of a more beefy mamool ja from FFXI. And the Ogre thing was just what I thought at first (noticed I edited in that at the same time it looked different). Now it makes me think its probably something like a dread dragon from FFXI with lots of flames around it. Its also really hard to tell where the body begins and ends because it seems to blend in well with rock environment in the background.

Also I REALLY like the lighting in that first screenshot. Going to look amazing hopefully in motion. The reason why I love the lighting in that shot so much is because you can actually see the light of that fire from the dragon like thing reflecting on the new beastman race along with the lighting of the general area. If the light will move with the mob, we could see some very epic boss battles in later parts of the games life.

I really hope there'll be more than 3 screenshots because that would be a cruel tease. A trailer would complement those screenshots quite nicely.

Might be an Ifrit redesign.

I hate to sound like a jealous ***, but what the heck is UP with the EU site being supremely more cool than the NA one? I had never gone to theirs before because I had assumed that all the sites were the same, just in different languages, but **** the EU one is pretty freaking awesome!

I actually like the NA site one the best, simpler and easier to navigate and not as much a resource hog as the EU site is. It does look pretty but as I was searching through the contents it felt like the flash borders got in the way of the content a lot of times. The screenshots we are talking about even reinforce that thought because I can't see certain portions of the pic because of those intrusive borders.

The JP one is really good too, even snappier than the NA one, but it also takes a hit elsewhere by being too simple and has content seemingly all over the place.

In the first screenshot maybe that's a fire spell casted by the mage in the foreground. Even if it's not based on the effects in the pics the spell and ability effects will long pretty good also. It makes me wonder what the soundfx for them are like.

All the updates and maintenance will be during their prime time, so they need something prettier to look at.

In the first picture, I'm going to have to take a guess that it may be a summon, as there appears to be a beastman Summoner in the foreground of the picture. Just one possibility.

The first picture looks like a Minotaur/Taurus mob or Dread Dragon from FFXI to me.

The extra apendatures on it's back look rather like the wings of the Minotaur/Taurus mob.

Hey look, Garlaige Citadel [S]!

I know it's a hot point of contention for some people, but frankly, I just love how it looks like a souped-up FFXI. It's got that cool nostalgic vibe, but I'm sure the gameplay will offset that with fresh-and-newness.

It's the only pay off we're going to get for another game lifetime's worth of EU-scheduled maintenances.

After looking at the EU site further it looks like whoever works on it jumped the gun lol. They even updated the news section about 'what' is going to be updated soon but when you click the links they supply the content isn't there. Looks like new info on bestiary and a new section entitled 'underworld' is coming soon.

Edit: bah spoke too soon, think I just read it wrong and they just added the bestiary section recently 'under' the world tab XD

Hmm I guessed that the NA version was just behind with updating and would change to that next step. But the JP version is waaaay different too.

Those are by far the best screen shots we've seen yet. Ifrit looks amazing, the beastmen already look much more threatening than anything in FFXI, and the armor they show looks fantastic. My hype just went up for this game.

Very Nice.

I think the "Ifrit" one is a cutscene. There isn't a playercharacter in the shot (the figure on the bottom right is the back of one of the beastmen), and the the framing is just a little *too* good.

Still, friggin' Superb.

Yeah, that's definitely a composed shot. But the in-game engine is really impressing me. I'm hoping for more screens, hopefully there will be more revealed than these three.

I've been impressed with SE's engine work in both XI and now XIV. They have one of the best looking MMOs out there by FAR. I've also enjoyed how they stay away from the cartoon look. I understand its a fantasy world but I don't want to feel like i'm watching saturday morning toons.

Even compared to aion, which people tout its great graphics, just doesn't seem to compare from what i've seen so far.

Can't wait for this to hit shelves!

Maybe I'm overdue for a trip to the optometrist, but the graphics don't look substantially better than the graphics for other recent and upcoming eastern MMOs. Beautiful, yes, but nothing to froth at the mouth over. Then, art has always been more of a concern to me than graphics, in which case I still think the art is good, but not great.

I guess I just don't understand why people are getting all excited over this, but I should probably just stfu and stop being a buzzkill.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I pointed this out in the other thread that also had links to the pictures.
The things with the tails all have Baghnahks equipped.
Or what look like Baghnahks equipped.
Baghnahks = Pugilist weapon.
Maybe no relevance. Could be coincidence.
New race?
Maybe.
Probably not though.

It impresses and excites me more as a CG and texture artist than anything else. MMOs always tend to be fairly low poly and rather limited on the shaders and ambient occlusion and other bells and whistles, for performance reasons.
You don't have to froth over it, but it's still a pretty impressive feat. (Assuming, of course, that the game runs lag-free online with multiple actors on screen.)

Assuming you're talking about Aion, it IS a pretty game, but a lot of the art design and direction leaves muuch to be desired, in my opinion. Aion Vision seems like it will be adding a lot of nice graphical tweaks to the game, but who knows when that will be coming out.

I was going to say something similar, but you beat me too it. It is not so much that it is leagues beyond the others, but there are a lot of minuet things that add up. From a person who works with pixels all day, it is definitely a work of art.

There is all those small technical tidbits like some of your guys are talking about but there is also anticipation over how it will move in game. What FFXI still sets apart for me more than other MMORPGs is how fluid a lot of things come together with the art style they have decided to go with. Sure there are better things now visually but the animation has not followed the polygon revolution for MMORPGs (for most at least). What we get is often lifeless set pieces that were masked much better in old games because of low polygon detail or they made up for it with impeccable art direction.

If there is one thing Square-Enix main staff can be incredible with is art style blending where not only is the quality of the image great, but the animation for that image works well in tandem. The in game scenes in the latest trailer alone showcase they still have it, and even the unfinalized alpha build at Gamescon had some amazing fluidity to the animation of the players (like starting and stopping from a run). They are also the masters of the game world when it comes particle vfx so just seeing that huge fire... thing, gives me many things to look forward to :)

oh and fyi... the images were taken down. Looks like a certain site jumped the gun on a soon coming update :P

I see, well now I can understand why the excitement, though I'm afraid I can't revel over those things myself. I'd be happy with well-made sprites-- all that matters to me is that the gameplay is superb.

I don't see any form of summoner in those pics. True the red demon thing looks like Ifrit, but who's to say that the person holding the staff is a SMN or Evoker class.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but the person carrying the staff is a beastmen. So even if it does happen to be a summoner it is not a playable job yet. I read somewhere that these summons will be an integral part of the story line (something along the lines of the 12 gods possibly??)
