hey guys, I'm wondering, now that the beta has been announced, what kind of time frame we can expect with regards to the launch of the beta. I realize that there is no standard relationship between the announcement of a beta and the time it takes for it to actually start, but i am sure there are people around here who have been through more pre-launch forum lurking than I have. (this is the first game that ive religiously followed before launch, FFXI was out in japan before i started following it).

So realistically, can we expect the beta to begin within a few weeks? a month? several months? Half a year? i really have no idea as i have never signed up for a Beta before.

I would love to assume that the Beta would be starting as early as January but for some reason i doubt that would happen.

I bet the closed beta will start sometime in January, with the open beta later on in Feb or March.

I know when they beta tested the US XI, the beta only lasted about 2-3ish months, but most of the testing had already been done before the Japanese release.

Anyone know how long the Japanese beta was for XI? That could give us a better estimate for XIV.

Anywhere from less than a week to 2 months lol. (not counting on the 2 months one though :P). If I were to bet I would say probably mid January sometime after all the winter holidays are over with in Japan. I mean it could be sooner than that depending on how SE wants to approach their schedule, and lots of beta testing tends to start (at least in the initial stages) fairly shortly after beta sign ups begin. Once they feel they have a large enough pool for their first round thats usually when 'most' places start their closed beta testing.

I'm secretly hoping that I get picked in the next 15 minutes :)

It would be freakin' awesome if they let people know before Christmas so they could just mess around with the world and a character as a Christmas present...

Best.... Christmas... EVER!!!

I'm guessing the beta will begin in less than 3 weeks, seeing that SquareEnix is ready for it they'll want to start it as soon as they pick out the applicants.

I'm hitting the refresh button of my e-mail app every 10 secs waiting for a beta account ^-^

Well, I'd say something between 2 and 4 weeks, but that's just a guess.

I tested the multiplayer beta for C&C Red Alert 3 last year (there was no NDA, especially as the bug report forum was public access). I registered for that Beta in March 2008, when Kane's Wrath came out. The beta was 5-6 months after that.
