The character creation section seems about as simplistic as the old system in FFXI though. :/
Well its upgraded a bit but its nothing super crazy. Looks like the old system with a few upgrades.
I think you have to look between the lines a bit.
Just take a look at the Hair. White, black, 50% grey shows us we have some control over Brightness. Red, yellow, blue shows us we have control over Hue. Brown shows us we have some control over Saturation. It's a Limited Palette, essentially. (I would hazard a guess, Highly Saturated colors being the part that's limited.)
Granted, a limited palette is pretty status quo nowadays.
When you stack it up next to things like STO allowing you to create entire Races
. Then yes, I admit, we're not exactly breaking any barriers here. But this is far above and away superior to XI.
Also in the spirit of reading in between the lines;
I think the outfit gives us some indication of how armor customization will go.
While a certain degree of changing the outfit was necessary when changing the skin tone. There was a bit more done here.
- Colors changed in ways that seem more for the sake of changing color than they are to serve the function of standing out from the skintone (1,4).
- The material
changed. Some have a stain-y sheen (3,7), others a matte cotton (4,5), and others still woven threads (2's top).
- Colors changed sectionally, with the top and bottom being different colors. (4)
- There is an indication of pattern. (2's striped skirt, 4's grated skirt) Edited, Dec 23rd 2009 11:45pm by Zemzelette
