I apologize in advance if this has been posted (did not see it mention in any thread).

Did anyone else notice that in the new screenshots updated in the media section on the official website they give us a map of Eorzea. It is somewhat unclear but at least could give us more of an idea of the land then we have had up till now. I think this was SE's intention as well since the focus of the picture is clearly the map.

Below is a link to Kotaku that has been previously posted by Alfonz in another thread. The image in question is #4.

Edit - Make sure to click on Full Size underneath the picture if your viewing it on Kotaku. The first time I viewed it I completely missed that link and it does clear it up quite a bit.

Hmm, it's a bit hard to make it out, but if I'm looking at it right, it kinda resembles Vanadiel.

Yeah I isolated the image when te pics first came out, but it's beyond my art program capability to do much more with it.

I'm on my laptop instead of desktop, so no painshop pro to properly rotate the image.. just crappy paint's 90 degrees limit and stuff.. but here's as close a good rotation of the map as i can get for ya, both normal and inverted included to help pick out the details.. i hope it's useful until someone can give us a properly rotated image with everything highlighted ^^

Héh.
Somewhere, deep down, I'm sorta expecting SE to release us *into* a graphically polished Vana'diel, and when you enter your moghouse, your moogle will go:
"You've been trolled, ******."

It may actually be accurate. If you look at the map shown at GamesCom during the Tanaka tech demo, it does bear some resemblance to this map. The YouTube video for the demo is linked below.

Edit - Map displayed at 1:42 - 1:52

there is something to the north east on the map in the intro..mountains and an undefined area which isn't surprising if they're an empire that doesn't really let anything out about them and who don't interact with the rest of the world other than to conquer it

Yeah the Garlean Empire is N.E on this continent of Aldenard. So, they would be beyond the those mountain ranges, maybe, or they are just at the border of where those moutains start heading northwards. The island off to the west of this detailed part of the map(Eorzea)is Vylbrand, you can make out the name if you distinguish the characters properly.
Anyways, to the Southern coast of that same island is where Limsa Lominsa is located. From where Garlean Empire sits, to the south-west(wide sweep)of it is where the city state of Al Mhigo was, before they(Garlean Empire) conquered it. Al Mhigo might be above those mountain ranges or on the border of them.

I think the mountain area above is like a fog of war and we won't see the rest of the continent until later(expansions ect...), Eorzea

to me, the main continent looks somewhat like africa, with a big island mid west, and a part of another continent northeast

there seems to be 5 tags on the main continent, and one on the west big island, meaning 6 cities.

somewhat re-made the map as i saw it (yay paint) and placed some names as they looked to me(can't really read, bus eorzean characters looks somewhat like ours, so i think it may fit)

map

edit : another way to see it is that there are no coast on northeast and it goes on as mountains, i can't really see.

Wow. That close up does make it more clear. The labels they applied seem to be fairly spot on as well (hard to tell if they are 100% correct until more info is released, but it does correspond pretty well).

I did some photo-editing magic and flattened out the map. Just figured it'd help everyone avoid some serious eye-strain. Can somebody check out the link and let me know if it's all visible?

Flattened Eorzea Map

Enjoy!

PS: Sorry about the Galka-hand, but I don't think it's covering up any land masses :P

Thanks! It only took a minute. I used GIMP's (http://www.gimp.org/) image editor. It's essentially photoshop, except free.

It's got a tool that lets you skew images in a manner that simulates a perspective image. Basically I just reversed it: used the tool to bring the image out of perspective and back to flat. Nice and easy.
