Pre-Rendered CutscenesFollow

So, its pretty obvious that most of these new screenshots are from pre-rendered cutscenes.

Do you guys think we're about to see a new trailer with the upcoming beta invites?
or do you think the game's cutscenes will be pre-rendered?

As much as I'd love it to be the latter, I think that would be pretty hard to accomplish (You can't easily fit someone's character or party into one).
So ima have to say we're about to see a new trailer.

What do you guys think?

I'm also gonna have to say there will be an upcoming trailer, as most of the characters in the pre rendered screenshots have already been in the previous trailers.

I think all of those shots are from the starting CG, and like in XI, there won't be anything else that is pre-rendered.

The thing that piqued my interest is that the starting cs seems to focus on the gameplay rather than story this time. We'll see how it turns out.

To be honest it feels like weve seen more then one cgi CSs worth or stuff. I think if we're lucky we might get the odd cgi cs in there. For example, the start of CoP never actually featured our character, so it could easily have been rendered in CGI. And to be honest, if anyone could quickly produce high quality CGI, it'd be square enix, from their years of experience

FFXI's first CG lasted 7mins.. I think we'll see similar in XIV =P

You cant pre-render what you don't know. Maybe there are some "flavor" CGI scenes eg about Towns, notable NPCs etc-- but they cant pre-render anything that involves your character.

Not that it matters too much though, as the Crystal Tools engine (that XIII and more importantly XIV will use) is designed to be able to render highly detailed scenes on the fly, instead of relying on pre-rendering.

One intresting option would to have Cut-Scenes viewed in 1st person. That way your always there but never shown.

This is very interesting
How much do you know about the engine? Is there a Wiki I can visit to see what kinds of features the engine has? I am particularly interested in how SE builds their worlds mixing modular pieces then applying some kind of programmatic height variation afterwords. That is a rare feature to be used in game development but SE seems to have been doing it ever since they moved to fully 3d environments.

Crystal Tools on Wikipedia

The big thing with this game engine has always been the fact that it was developed to render CGI in real-time opposed to using pre-rendering for CGI sequences. Very powerful engine.
