Have anybody else notice the official NA site did not mention the above classes in the armoury system but their names are on the JP site (kind of)?

it's been like 4months since the classes were revealed/leaked, I think we will probably see these 2 classes and 1 of the city-states and also details of the other classes will be updated this month.

FFXI was the only FF game I've played, so I'm actually really curious what an Illusionist class is, from looking at the name, it doesnt look like a Damage Dealer class to me and it doesnt look like something that would do enfeebling magic of any sort to me, I can't wait to see the details of this class.

You can play Illusionist yourself in the 2 FFT Advance titles on GBA/DS. Here is a link that describes Illusionist a bit. Basically the job is a unique spin off BLM. AoE damage spells are very common.

Well,, in Tactics Advanced and Tactics A2, Illusionist was very similar to a Black Mage.
Black mages could do strong elemental magic to a small target. Illusionists did elemental magic to the entire screen.

I have no idea how the magic classes will play out in XIV. But I think it's fair to assume we'll have a Healer, Nuker, Enfeebler and Buffer. I think we'll also see the class sections fill out on the website very soon, with Beta fast approaching they don't have much time left for information control.

/edit: I'm a slow poster. ;_;

Illusionist use AoE spells similar to Firaga and such. While an Illusionist's spells are slightly different than a BLM's, the job is essentially identical. However, an Illusionist AoE spells have greater range encompassing the entire screen. I'd say SE would have to change a few things if Illusionist were brought in as a FFXIV class. While physically weak similar to a BLM, it would be very easy to exploit the longer reaching spells with no danger to themselves in a MMORPG.

I don't think illusionist in the FFTA sense is possible in FFXIV, with the whole limitless range damage spells thing. I can see them being similar to RDM in a party setting, with less-no focus on healing. Enfeebelers who can cast some damage spells, and have some illusions to buff the party.

It's also possible it is an odd translation misunderstanding, and could be an entirely different class.

Enfeebles and buffs. A bunch of psychological spells that make you think something is happening.

illusionist sounds to me like a class that can handle links with magic like the party of mobs that link together and he can cast a spell that aoe binds, or shadows himself to all the mobs or something.

also in the trailer and screen shot on the boat and the one class has a big orb circle around the team that basically looks like a spell that is barier'ing all the mobs and keeping the party safe inside the bubble(kinda like in lord of rings game healer spell) i an wondering what class that one is?

No, Illusionist is a full blown mage, RDM is a hybrid class. Scholar, BLM, and Sage would all be closer to Illusionist.

When you see illusionist, think AoE support. I think it will be spells that hit a large area and change elemental weakness stats or have stat down effects for a large area. Blindga, Sleepga, Slowga.

Illusionists I think will generally have more crowd control spells, where as blm is focused upon damage.

Im just gonna wait and see. The Illusionist in this game may not resemble anything from previous ff titles or it may. We don;t really know yet from a name translated from Japanese.

Actually playing as an illusionist you play as Ed Norton.

That's actually a really good movie.

Jessica Biel is in it too.

If there is a class called Illusionist it'll probably be a class that casts those barrier spells and has spells that stops hordes of enemies in there tracks allowing time to conjure mighty tornadoes, blizzards and thunderstorms dealing damage to multiple enemies. So Illusionist might have the power to repel large groups of enemies, deal massive aeo damage to enemies and entangle enemies, this is all speculation ofcourse. To go further it would take alot of skill to play something like that since if the hordes of enemies break through the defensive line set then you're dead.

I think I will most likely be playing Genjutsushi (Illusionist). Unless they made archers a powerful debuffer class I feel like Illusionist will provide most utility to the group.

Heheheh, it would make the illusionist the tank. Keep making "Decoy" to entertain grouped monsters while the others kill them one by one.

I'm almost convinced SE has gone away from the whole trinity of tank, damage, and heals. Personally I think all melee class will take damage and tank to a certain extent. Classes like illusionist will just aid in their tanking by casting certain spells (like the bubble that someone mentioned earlier).

I'd do backflips if this was the case. Being able to control multiple mobs and the flow of battle will be fun. Being an illusionist should allow you to transfer hate through illusion onto tank jobs as well imo.

Illusionists should be all about faking out the opponent and making them think something is happening when it is in fact not. Higher level HNMs should be able to see through certain illusions though (i.e. illusion immunity) so illusionists don't become OP.

And here I was expecting a joke about someone telling they caught a fish "this" big.. Then using some magic to make them think it was true.
