Map of Eorzea (to be updated)Follow

This thread is for composing a map of Eorzea based on an image found in one of the official screenshots, and using information revealed by SE about the world and its locales. Speculation on locations, corrections, and any relevant info is encouraged!

I added a version with a simple color overlay to make land masses easier to spot. This revealed a couple islands to me that I hadn't previously noticed. Some of them have labels, which leads me to believe that they will be accessible.

*Edit: Added speculative labels*
*Edit: "Sea of Ask" now "Sea of Ash"*
*Edit: "Bloodering Sea" now "Bloodbrine Sea"*
*Edit: Added color version*
*Latest Edit: Added .png versions*

it wont' load the bigger version of the map when I click it. I saw this on BG earlier, but your map looks much cleaner.

This is a nifty final map after a lot of work was put into it.

A lot of the characters have probably even been properly translated, it is very consistent with the word "sea"

I think "Sea of Ask" is more like "Sea of Ark", but that's just me.

I'll definitely check that one again, since "Sea of Ask" sounds kinda weird, but IIRC the symbol resembled the same one as an "S" used elsewhere.

Will check on image not displaying issues a bit later. Posting from smart phone atm.

Thanks for feedback all!

A-ha! Now that makes more sense. The "H" character matches the one in "Rhotano" as well. Looks good.

Updated, thanks!

I re-uploaded and checked it on both Google Chrome and Firefox, and it seems to be working fine. Judging from the other responses, others have been able to get it to load. Maybe try again, or open it in a new tab?

Haha the "Sea of Ash" changes it from a beautiful open ocean, to a wasteland of fire a death. Hopefully it's not what I think.

has anybody noticed that alot of these names seem very westernized? The names of the city-states and things like that have a classic FF feel, but names like "see of ash" and "Camp Bloodshore" (from official site) sound cliche western fantasy.

i dont totaly dissaprove, but it makes the game seem sort of generic, or coarse all these names are subject to change, so i guess we'll have to wait and see if theres any trend with these names.

i think the city in the middle is ishgard, the name appear on the site as a city in the mountains(that fit), you can also see the name lenght fit and some of the characters seems good too.

edit : it's at page 2 of the intro : "and Ishgard, bastion atop the mountains."

the sea at the top is cloudbrine sea

(b appear in vylbrand, so the starting letter is a probably a "c" and the last letter is a "e")

edit : things i somewhat read :

ragoln(n ul'dah)

gaol o au(ne ul'dah)

la mearea(n limsa)

xelgma ?(ne ishgard)

thel arreah(n)

(if someone still have a link to the famitsu shot of the guildleves, it may provide some characters sample)

kudos on the work, looks great.

Now all we need is a map that is broken down so we can see how large the actual explorable areas are. Looks small compared to XI so far though.

Agreed, but if the quote about a "seamless transition between zones" was translated properly, it will make the world feel much more open and large. Even in the demo at Gamescon players were able to run over rocks and around with much more freedom, so even if it is smaller it probably won't be noticeable. Just my guess though.

FFXI wasn't that big before all the expansion packs. If you started on Na release you probably started with the zilart expansion already installed to the game, so you might not have noticed it.

I'm having some trouble pulling the trigger on "Cloudbrine". I definitely agree with the "brine" part of it; that's the same "b" character that appears in "Vylbrand", so that makes sense. And I do agree that the first character doesn't seem to be an upper-case "B". The only difference between upper and lower case letters in this language seems to be size, so it stands to reason that if it was a "B", it would just be a larger version of the same character.

That being said, I'm just not seeing enough of a difference between the 3rd and 4th characters to make them an "o" and a "u". They both look like o's, so I rolled with "Blood". Plus, "Bloodbrine" makes slightly more sense than "Cloudbrine", since brine implies a liquid.

Changed the second part to "brine". I'll hold on the other changes for the time being, but I'll keep them in mind.

he was trying to make a jokes.

And about the whole cloud/blood brine. Clouds do produce water (as in rain), so it could make sense as well...especially in the color version it looks like cloudbrine.

True. I'll mull it over a bit. (Working on some other stuff at the moment)

Info looks more or less the same, from what I'm seeing, plus a little extra speculation that can't be confirmed yet.

*bad joke, inc*

thats why they included dark skin.

*end joke, on topic*

I noticed the same thing, except madagascar is on the wrong side. I was reading elsewhere how SE likes to pull in historical and world events.....sure reminds me of the german/italian invasion of east africa.
