I was wondering if there were more of you that would like to see a 'mastery' tree if you will in ffxiv. In wow their are literally 3 different paths that you can take for each class if not a combination of your own imagination within the 3 trees. I hope that ffxiv follows this flexibility and allows us some customization within the classes. Post your comments accordingly.

Err...I'm not sure if you've been following the game but the customizable classes they seem to be doing are far more customizable than talent trees. There's a thread somewhere around here that talks about it.

The WoW talent tree is vastly inferior to ffxi's job class system. So its common sense that 14's will be better than 11's, thus pushing the talent tree system way below a decent system.
Edit: However, speaking of trees where do you think there will be a "great tree" like a heaven's tower type, or like a mana tree(secret of mana) and what signifigance will it have?

I don't really like skill talent trees because you usually can't max out every ability and you're forced down certain paths. I'm the type that likes to have access to everything that my class is capable of, if i'm missing out on a bunch of skills and buffs then that becomes impossible. You couldn't max out everything in the ffxi merit system but that was cool, only missed out on an ability or two. I'll support it if i can max out everything on the tree and be able to choose from certain abilities and buffs to equip for certain situations.

if you could max out every ability, there would be no point to having a tree at all. The point of trees is to customize your character and are different from normal leveling growth. The point is that your level 50 warrior is different from other level 50 warriors. if you could max out every ability, everybody would be the same in the end, In which case, there might as well be no talent tree and those skills would just as well be incorperated into regular leveling growth.

It will be an EXP or skillup camp, of course! Smiley: grin

SMN is just epic in it's scope. You gain fame in all cities to have their avatars. When others finish ToAU, they get toys; you get gods.

Too bad in the end everyone pretty much is the same anyway. People find the strongest builds and everyone copies them.

yes, assuming every build fulfills the same role. in XI, if you were a dark knight, you were going to be a damage dealer, regardless of your sub, therefor people would find the sub that allows them to do that job as effective and efficient as possible. Same goes for White mage, they will always be a healer, no amount of customization is going to change that.

But in a game like WoW, most classes can change entire roles based on what they have specialized in. a warrior can be just as effective as a DD as they are in a tanking position. priests can spec to heal or do damage, paladins can spec for healing, damage, or tanking, and so on. i havent played the game in a few years so some of this may have changed, but the last i heard is that theyve actually increased the diversity in classes.

so yes, it is possible to have customization without having a single overpowered build.

cookie cutters within those specific builds however are a different story.
