After entering the character creation and choosing your race, you can choose which clan you want to belong to. I'm more or less referring to as a Roegadyn being able to become part of the Maritime Mercenaries/Body Guards/Pirates, or the Hellsguard, those whom follow the discipline of magic.

Fairly old news, though I'm not sure that it's been confirmed, 100% that this will be a choice you can make in game. Hyurs can be Highlanders or Midlanders, and Miqo'te can be Seekers of the Sun or Keepers of the moon. As to what any of these will actually DO, your guess is as good as mine.

All I care about is choosing the Elezen clan that HATES hyur.

Because I love all the XI elvaan pride and anti- other races from San D' Oria.

When you read the race descriptions it says they're divided into groups based on behavior.

i.e. Elezen mentions a reclusive faction called Duskwight, the Miqo'te have a day and night faction, etc.

presumably it's just an extension of the 'all this little stuff affects you a little bit' from FFXI (race, gender starting stats).. MAYBE they could do a racial/clan ability or something to make it more interesting... ^^

I think the different clans will have different appearance features.

Or it could possibly segregate discipline paths, possibly. The Hellsguard Roegadyn practice magic, and I would probably have to guess they turn a cold shoulder to the old barbaric ways.

Perhaps your ancestry will affect stat balance.

For example, if you choose a straight up melee race like the galka in ffxi, but then choose a clan of miners, you get 1 higher strength, but one lower INT.

Or if you choose the ancestry of the musketeers, you would get +3 MP, but -5 HP at the start, and have a larger natural MP growth overall.

Just a thought.

If they do that Ill probably play whatever has the flatest stat balances so I can play whatever job I want without penalty.

Got to love being told that after saving their kingdom and changing nation.

Not to mention saving the world twice.

But I guess everyone does that in this world.
