If i remember correctly, FFXI only ran at 30 frames per second. when i found this out a while back i was quite surprised actually. My guess is that FFXIV will also run at 30 fps. Just a hunch here, it would be nice if the game ran at 60 fps, but there really isn't a need to.

If FFXIV handles large amounts of people better than FFXI out of the box and has virtually no slowdown on either platform, i'd be impressed, but i know that won't be the case. I'm also guessing that FFXIV will also run at 720p instead of 1080p on the ps3, since most games do, including FFXIII.

Personally i'm getting the ps3 version, since i love the controller (its wireless now too) and since i know it will run pretty darn smoothly out of the box. I do not really enjoy messing around with PCs, its too much trouble and too expensive for me to get a good gaming rig. PC might automatically look better than ps3 out of the box though if XIV does run 720 on ps3.

FYI, FFXI runs at 1080p on the xbox360. Granted, more multi-platform games run 1080p on xbox than ps3, but I still would be very very surprised if the PS3 version doesn't do full HD.

If we base it on FFXI. PS3 limitations. That and you'll have to worry about them eventually halting sales on PS3 while continuing on with computer and Xbox.

I'll definitely be playing it on my PC, partly because I don't own a PS3 (yet) and partly because I just prefer to play MMOs on a computer. However, if I ever get a PS3 or if it comes out for Xbox 360, I'll probably try it out there too.

I enjoyed playing FFXI on the PC, partly because of the inherent graphic limitations of a PS2. On a PC you crank the graphics much higher than on either a PS2 or a 360 in the registry.
That and I can type very quickly; I had all of my macros, but being able to quickly type in /ma Holy <T> during Dynamis with my Paladin (for example) came in handy. (I played FFXI with keyboard-only for 5 years, you get used to it and I still hold that it is more versatile than a controller)

I will be playing on the PC hands down.

PC for life. I'm the type of person that will always get a game on the PC over a console.

I don't like playing games on hard consoles (PS3, XBOX, etc.), I'm more of a computer-based gamer. So I've pre-ordered the PC version of FFXIV. However, if my husband joins the game, he'll probably get the PS3 version knowing him (though he could also go PC since we have multiple computers).

My current PC should suffice in playing the game but if it doesn't, I am not at all put off by sinking a lot of money into new components or a new computer, so this probably is a sway factor for me. I'm not financially unable to bring my PC up beyond game specs to get a great performance.

I suppose if your PC is barely able to play the game, or you feel it will be that way, it might be better to stick with the PS3.

At the end of the day though, I don't like playing with a controller. I prefer the keyboard. Who knows with FFXIV though since we all know so little about it.. but at least I could come up with a controller for the PC to use if I wanted to. I like having my options.

Though if my husband gets the PS3 version I'd look forward to seeing the game on the 42" screen ;)

I'm going for PC version because I am able to tweak the graphics with a higher resolution. Plus, I find I have a lot more fine control with keyboard and mouse.

while I'd like to say pc, I'm not in the situation to buy / build a new computer. I'll just use my ps3. and idk, my apple bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse work flawlessly with my ps3 thankfully. I don't care for using a controller with mmos.

yeah i did install it but the disc has to be in there to start it up i have like 3 ffxi disc and all were scratch due to the disc tray when it spins, i had them fix but the disc tray would do this circle scratch mark.

I'm not sure if it's the case with 360, but I know that if you stood your PS2 up the games didn't balance and were easily scratched. That's the main reason why to this day all of my consoles lay down.
I also remember something going wrong with certain FFXI disks after a WotG update, I wasn't able to use my WotG disk and had to use my original again instead.

Anyway, the PS3 Vs. PC debate is the main reason I would like to see in-game chat software. I know that PS3 home will let PS3 users talk (although I'm not sure if it works like 360's party chat) and PC users can easily use vent or something else, but how are gamers supposed to chat cross platform?

The only reason to not use a PC is money. As for console so-called "pros", you can get a wireless controller for your PC. You can put your PC in the basement and connect it wireless to your 60" flat screen TV in your living room and sit your *** on the couch with a bag of Doritos. Someone even said surround sound is better on a PS3 than a PC. Umm... maybe if you are using onboard sound and 20 dollar wal-mart speakers.

Anyway, a PC can do anything a PS3 can, but it can get really pricey compared to a tidy little console package. If I decide to buy FF14, I'll be getting it for my PC.

PS3. PC's are too expensive, and I don't like PC gaming. Playing it on the PS3 will feel right at home.

I've always been a PC gamer primarily, with some exceptions. The thought of playing XIV on a huge HDTV with a wireless keyboard/mouse does sound pretty awesome though.

I'm sure many have mentioned it already, but on PC, I could do this:

If PS3 allows .dat swap, and third party plug-in's, I'll take the PS3.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the UI Mod and .dat changes... Maybe I'll just stick with PC then lol Smiley: grin

I can't even look anymore at XI's original UI after being spoiled with the modded one.

It doesn't. It may be upscaled, but it's native resolution is definitely not 1080p. Any game that isn't running 1080p on the ps3 isn't running 1080p on the 360 unless it was developed with much fail in mind. Much like ffxiii on the xbox isn't even 720p native. It's like high 500's.

PC + 1080p TV = best of both worlds.

He said FF11.... F11 hasn't even been offically released on the PS3 :S

But your kind of right because FF11 doesn't even run natively at 1080p on a PC unless you mess with the registry.

Oh the registry fix brings back memories. It killed my frame rate with my old pc, but it looked great.

However, the reason most games on xbox 360 or PS3 don't support 1080p when rendering 3d is because the video card isn't powerful enough. You don't even have the option to set the resolution because I believe MS and Sony don't want a ton of complaints that their console is slow.

When I got my PS3 I was seriously ****** off that most games I played ran at a max of 720p. I have my PS3 hooked up to a 27.5" monitor so it was very obvious because I'm close to the screen. I have Street Fighter IV for PS3 and it only runs in 720p. I compared graphics to pc demo and the PC demo is superior because I can set the resolution to 1920x1200 with anti-aliasing turn to the max.
