Hello everyone! I was just wondering what you guys think about the races being the same and if it persuades you to stay your same race. I played a elvaan in ffxi but will probably switch up races in ffxiv. Just wondering if people will stay with what they have played in the past for nostalgic reasons (perhaps even the same name?).

I played as a taru melee(nin first job to 75) in ffxi, and i'm alrdy going to be a lalafall melee down the line. Playing as the mage race as melee always fun/challanging, but then again dont know if lalafall is a mage race. See once more info comes out about that.

Yep I'm stayin the same.

I was a mithra WHM and DRK... Hopefully I'll receive similar options.

Also I did a lot of logging and fishing, of the two I like fishing more so I'll probably start that in FFXIV.

Last time I was Elvaan this time I'm going hume or mithra. I'm a guy so I am still undecided on whether or not I realy want to play a cat-girl I wish I could be a cat-boy. If they had given us Manthras it wouldnt have been a choice I so would have gone Manthra.

I mostly played melee last time around, but I also dabbled in mage jobs. I just never took one very high, then I got sidetracked with BST, which was its own thing.

This time around, I'm going full-blown mage. I'll pick whichever race and clan gives the strongest mage stats. I was Elvaan before, and I like the race well enough. If they make good mages, I'll probably be one again (maybe a female though... the ones on the website are pretty effin ****). I'll be taking a look at the Rogadin mage clan though... Hellbreathers or whatever. However, I will not be a Lolifail under any circumstances.

I want to stay as Hume but im sick of standing like one leg is longer than the other. Stand straight dammit.

I hope they have taller Humes this time though.

I'm sticking with a human character. I've got a weird quirk about having to make my characters look as close to me in real life as possible. Helps me identify with them more, I guess.

almost definitely mithra ranger again.. though i might go elvaan if there is a 'noticable' (obv it'll be small.. but end game every little bit helps) difference in dps as an elvaan ranger. (though through playing the beta i will try everything.. you never know i might find a new love ^^ )

I'm just going to make the character I like the best, which was what I did with XI. It will probably be a Hyur or Elzen, unless there's a new race. Frankly I will be very disappointed if there are no new races. I could conceivably make a Moogle, or maybe even a male Miqote.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I was a M Hume in FFXI and I think I'll be a M Hyur in this game. I will use a different name though just so the game feels more refreshing.

In FFXI I was a mithra, mainly because I wanted to be an ranger and mithra agility was very appealing to me. SE hasn't said whether or not one race will be "better" at a certain class than another so assuming everything is equal I think I will just be a boring hume like mostly everyone else.

Played a taru bard/blm/whm/thf in FF11. Will probably choose lalafel if they don't look too childish, or maybe try out roegadin. I like the characters to look as different from humans as possible.

But generally I think SE is doing a very good job designing the races and characters. Just compare the characters in FF11 and in WoW. FFs characters look much more interesting and life like, even though WoW was released the latest.

Despite the craziness of the comment, I loved to be a BST. I was Hume DRG and BST in FFXI and the simple fact to have the ability to charm a creature and keep you company around your long walks towards a camp or a BCNM seems amusing and refreshing. Tried SUmmoning but by the time I did they were whm knock off where you would have painfully reach high levels to be able to use them in battle, unless some random BCNM came upon you. reason I stopped midways.

If FFXIV has a similar perspective, Perhaps a shepherd Discipline of Land kind of class, I would probably do such as a Hyur (love the balance of Human kind). Have a land with aldgoats, and every day ride my chocobo through out the fields as I pastor them to take either wool or meet that is either used or sold to the Discipline of hand

You just made me think of something....

I hope we can milk aldgoats. I'm already planning to garden and cook, but it would be a nice option to go out and try to milk various mobs and make various cheeses and butters.

With milking, though, there would obviously have to be a chance of aggro that depends on mob level and skill level.

I had two mains, a Taru and Galka. Of course, the Tarutaru was for all mage-oriented jobs and Galka for the rest. I'm probably going to scout race stats before deciding my race.

I played every race but Galkas in FFXI and tbqh Roegadyn look pretty awesome in this game so I might give them a shot but my favorite race in FFXI were the Mithras so I might go with Mi'Qotes this time around.

Exactly, But it would not be as hard for you "Cook" going to a farm and ask the "Shepherd" to milk it for you. Therefore there would be an interaction between commerce and jobs (meaning the working process)

Milking goats?? Why not just kill the goat and take the milk and meat after it's dead, as regularly?

Because that would defeat the purpose of what SE is trying to do. Making a more interactive community. Why have Discipline of land to garden or mining if we could just get a pickaxe and get our stuff as it has always been? (I am speculating of course)

Same.

Roegadyn are the big guys, I'm a big guy. Works in my Fav, only this time I won't have a tail ^-^ (or so images show..)

Or I may roll a Mithra-like one. Just for looks. If I'm going to stare at something for hours on end, I may as well enjoy what I'm looking at.

And with that, I usually don't play Humans in MMOs. But they have a Red Head female, who looks pretty cute :p
Everyone likes a red head.

Depends. Are you a bull or a cow?

I think you should be able to try milking a bull, and upon failing, be punted into a random town like with that one holiday event.

I'll use whatever race doesn't look clumsy casting spells and actions

Mithra was good in FFXI but since my wife is playing I might need to make a male character. Which male character is least clumsy?

I always play humans. I'll probably just stick to that, but I'm tempted to make a Tarutaru (whatever they're called in XIV). I think that's going to depend on how the racial stats/traits/whatever are.

My char was originally an elf back during D&D PnP. The "elf" race in XI was too tremendously different from D&D, though, that I decided to go with Hume instead. Mithra would have been closer to my original character, but I didn't want to play a furball.

It looks like XIV's races will be similar to XI, but I have to confirm it first. If the Ellezen aren't so retarded looking as the Elvaan, I may play that.

The Brady Guide for XI is now defunct, just so you know... Depending on a lot of factors, the XIV Brady will likely follow the same trend. As for races, I'll actually make a female this time, most likely Miqo'te, wielding a G. Katana with a Samurai-ish name. Mithra SAMs in XI are so badass to me that I was annoyed at making a male character just to not be bothered by anyone. Turns out it was more annoying hearing friends' reactions when I told them I'm not male, so I'll just stick with a female character.
