Anyone knows if you are allowed to keep your beta account when retail hits the shelves (keep your char and so on)? I know some other MMO allowed this and was wondering if SE would allow this as well ?

lol only like free to play mmos let u keep your char after a closed beta, but still many dont. Games like this wont let you keep your char after then beta. EVERYTHING is wiped, but mabey your account info. Might able to keep that/friend list and such after the beta is over and the full game opens up to everyone.

If you want FFXIV to suck like Aion. No thanks.

if we're VERY lucky... they might just give the option to reset the statistics/quests/etc.... of our beta character... so in other words just blank slate it before the start for the simple "no need to go through the process of creating a character again and MAYBE losing your name to someone else before you" hassle.

For people who have never been in a beta before, it is standard practice that characters are completely wiped at the end, with absolutely no carry-over whatsoever. Beta tests usually take place on a separate server (or servers) that will not be live when the game is released and are usually retained for testing purposes after the game is released for expansions and other features. There are a lot of reasons for this, one is that you've been playing with a character that may have bugs, and has been playing in an earlier version of the game than what will actually be released, which may cause problems with the software. Another reason is that if they allowed characters to carry over, it would give those people a vast head start over anyone else in the game, which isn't fair. Yet another reason is that this is a beta test. You're there to test the game, find bugs, and squash them. You're not there to play the game as you would at release.

Some companies have allowed a very brief head start period for early subscribers/pre-orders (Warhammer, Aion, STO). Some also allow you to reserve your name, create your character, and choose your server beforehand. Squenix may allow this or not, but it's really way too soon to tell or even speculate. Regardless, don't expect to carry over anything from beta.

**** I know LotRO allowed this for the "jump start/end of beta" you got to keep your beta character that was capped at level 20. Good times.

Highly unlikely.

SE will want everyone to start off on even ground.

SE did allow the FFXI Xbox 360 beta players to keep their characters. That was probably only due to the game already being released, so I doubt that will happen for XIV.

World of Warcraft let stress test characters carry over to open beta, and open beta characters go straight to live servers at retail release, so don't make generalizations about X type of game doing Y.

That said, SE has said in interviews they plan on wiping all the characters between the beta and retail release. So from what we know now, no, there will be no carryover, but bigger last minute changes have happened.

I can't see the game leaving the Beta unwiped - but I'm hoping for a retail, pre-order offer for a headstart.

/fingers crossed

Yeah, that had more to do with testing the 360 itself then the game.

Still, beta players will have a head start, wether or not their beta characters are wiped. They will be familiar with various aspects of the game, allowing them to go ahead when others are still trying to figure out how to move.
