In the Famitsu wave interview with producer Hiromichi Tanaka and director Nobauki Kumoto, where they field various XIV questions, such as Eorzea (main setting) being just one region in Hai-de-rin (the world), Tanaka goes on to say

There's actually, In the trailer... A kind of message... or something hidden in there.

I've watched the trailer dozens of time but still haven't figured out what he was referring too.. I went threw nearly all the post here and haven't seen anything about it.. any guesses or conclusions as to what he was talking about?

After staring at the FFXIV Site and watching the trailer a few hundred times it reminds me of the old Vana'diel joke ...

"An Elvan, a Hume and a Galka walk into a chocobo stable!"

An Elvan, a Hume and a Galka are headed out of Bastok and decide to rent a chocobo, they're shocked to find the rental fee to be 30gil. per chocobo, each only having 10gil. a piece decide to pitch in their share and they give the stable manager the 30gil.

sometime after leaving the manager notices that he's over charged the three by 5gil., so he sends the stable boy out to look for them to return the 5gil.

on his journey to find the three the stable boy starts to think to himself, how am I ever going to divide 5gil. between these three, So he take 2gil. out of his satchel and sticks it in his trousers.

upon finding the three he returns 1gil. to each of the riders and heads back to town with a grin.

Now that each one of the riders has received 1gil. back this means
that they only paid 9gil. apiece for the chocobo. So three times the
9gil. equals 27gil. plus the 2gil. the stable boy kept comes to 29gil. -
Where is the other 1gil?

elvan 9gil.
hume 9gil.
galka 9gil
stable boy 2gil

10x3= 30-5= 25+3= 28

They didn't each pay 9 gil in the first place, because 25/9 doesn't go evenly three ways. As for what happened to the remaining gil, it probably got rolled into a bank account along with all the other fractions of a gil, to later be collected by a group of three disgruntled stable boys. But then, they're going to get caught, so they try to reimburse the money in hopes that they won't spend hard time in Mordion Gaol, getting their asses pounded by botters. However, another disgruntled employee, who is a little crazy, then finds the reimbursed gil. He makes off with that gil, Firaga V's the whole ******* place, and spends the rest of his days on the beaches of the Purgonorgo Isle, sipping HQ margaritas, even though he specifically requested NQ.

So the gil is on Purgonorgo Isle.

ok,
could this E3 Interview have anything to do with it, @2:08 / 4:52 sounds to me like they're trying to do away with POL for FFXI (possibly move XI to what XIV will be using as a portal^^)

Quote:
what we're tring to work on now is, more on the connection between the FFXI community and the FFXIV comunity and how those two are going to be working together, and we felt that, ahh... POL wasn't the correct portal for that.

I got the impression they wanted to distance them selves from POL where XI is concerned,

In any case do you think it may be possible SE has designed a way for XI and XIV players to possibly play together on an instanced battle in the future... to fight Eorzea ... possibly on a ship?

"On a forgotten page of eternity there lies a land embraced by mighty gods. Her name... Eorzea. As fates cross, swords will clash under the eldritch veil of a crimson shadow. Heroes of the realm, take up your blades! To answer the call of destiny you must join hands... once again."

I love this riddle because I always forget the correct answer and have to remember it. You're supposed to subtract the two gil to come to 25gil, the amount that it cost! 3x10 = 30; 30-25 = 5; 2 to the stable boy and 3 to the guys. In other words: 3x9 = 27; 27-2 = 25; 25-25 = 0.

This is from an old interview:

Quote:
Are there any connections beyond the style of Avatars?

Tanaka states that players can go into Final Fantasy XIV expecting no significant similarities. However, they realize some comforts just cannot be abandoned so easily - like friends. Therefore, they are looking at ways to allow names to transfer as well as other methods to keep adventurers together. The main objective here is to make transferring to Final Fantasy XIV as comfortable as possible without providing the advantage of transferring completed characters. The ideal situation is one in which players can choose freely between playing in Vana'diel one day, and Eorzea the next. Tanaka envisioned a new door in one's Mog House that would act as a dimensional portal into Eorzea, allowing players in either game to quickly join their friends wherever they may be. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, Tanaka was unable to bring this plan to fruition.

Well I imagine that it would be an integral, though malfunctioning, piece of stable boy equipment. I admit, I don't know much about what being a chocobo stable boy entails. I'm stumped.

It's much easier to think about the riddle in terms of who made what profit. They paid 27 gil, the manager kept 25 and the boy stole 2.

I think I've got it! The maze mongers shopfront, its no secret that thing is absolutely malfunctioning(bastok itself doesnt have one, but it should so that this can fit in better, would still be better in purpose than its current role).

****. Lots and lots of ****. So the malfunctioning equipment would likely be either a shovel or rubber boots. Malfunctioning boots would get the correct emotional response (if a shovel breaks, you won't give a ****. If your boots break, you're standing in ****), but I'm not sure how well the smashing-with-a-bat part would go.

Quite the puzzle you've stumbled on here, Kachi...

The only thing I can ascertain from the trailer is the way the credits speak of having 'left' somewhere, where life long friendships have been forged. And since SE have stated they want to make it as easy as possible for people from FFXI to jump into FFXIV, I would assume they're talking about Vana'diel.

The part about setting sail? Perhaps it might be possible to visit Vana'diel?
