Personally, I loved all of the events that FFXI brought to the table. If I had to pick one though, it would have to be summerfest. I remember the fireworks/special music that played during the festival and it just brought feelings of good emotion. Just wondering what you guys would like to see.

I hope they bring back Garrison or at least stuff that high lvls and low lvls can do together and still have fun.

ToAU was definitely a step in the right direction for events in FFXI, so I am confident they will continue to have awesome events. Battles like Besieged were fun but it got very laggy and there wasn't a whole lot of satisfaction, so a scaled down version with a group of like 20 would be excellent (I apologize if this is what Garrison was, I never tried it). I think a monster hunter system would be incredible, but without the transportation crystals and all that. Imagine if they gave a riddle about the beast (what it eats, climate preference) and you had to go out and hunt it down with your friends, except the destination would require a trigger that you received at the beginning to spawn the creature, so there isn't competition with other groups. The best part of FFXI was doing missions and heading to zones where every mob was IT and you were on the edge of your seat the entire time, so if they find a way to rekindle that epicness it would be incredible.

I hope they add an event that drops a piece of equipment I want more than anything and to make the event perfect that item should have a very low drop rate and be sought after by tons of other people.

******* Assassins armlets I hate you more than anything on this planet!!!!!!!!

I enjoyed Salvage a lot, I hope something like that appears in XIV. I didn't mind the low drop rates, just made the piece of gear you're trying to make all the sweeter once you do finish it.

By the context of your post I assume you mean the seasonal events. If I had to choose just one, it'd be a reoccurring event like the Twinkling Treant event way back near PC release. I've been hard pressed to have that much fun since.

I kinda hope they perfect campaign in XIV. It seems like they were closer to the mark a year ago than they are today though.

I liked whichever seasonal event it was had the mini-games. More of that would be fun! Maybe a few mini-games will be included in that we can access all the time. I liked the card tables in FFXI but they never really got used much :/

Actually, I would like to see more events that require the whole server to help each other complete (like the TTs mentioned above), and the first server to complete it gets a new game feature. Then a month or two later the feature would be released to all other servers.

It's more fun that way than just trying to do an event for personal equipment (Halloween Staff, etc.).

Edit: For those of you who weren't there for the Twinkling Treants event in late 2003, this is what happened:

Now, I can't remember if this is 100% accurate, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Back then, there were no Outpost Warps. You can only set your HP and buy items from NPCs at the outposts. In December 2003, they added the "Twinkling Treants" event. There was one those tree mobs (like the ones that drop Tree Cuttings) in almost every outdoor area. They were called Twinkling Treants, and the difference was that these TTs were sparkling with different colors, like a Christmas tree. Each of them had 1,000,000 HP. The only way you could attack it is if you were level 20 or less. Players above level 20 can talk to a special Moogle NPC to temporarily lower your level to 20. So as you can imagine, it takes a LOT of time for level 20 players to take down 1 mil HP, not to mention there were several of these TTs scattered throughout the world.

Your goal is to defeat all these TTs before New Year's day.

On the FFXI official site, there was sort of a live update that shows you how close each server was to defeating all TTs.

The reward for completing this event was that the first server to complete it would gain a new game feature: The Outpost Warp.

I forgot which server was the winner.

Not long after that server got the OP Warp (a few weeks?), though, SE gave OP Warp to all other servers.

I think that's pretty accurate for what happened. This is the type of event I would like to see more of. Server-wide reward that everyone can benefit from, as well as bragging rights for your server being the first one to complete the event.

Event wise I'd have to say the Starlight Celebration.

I look forward every year to adding to my collection of Dream+1 gear and the snow flakes falling and the Christmas music playing in the background as I send presents to all the little childrenz of Vana'diel always puts me in the Christmas spirit^^!

"Look at that glum face! No, no, that won't do at all. How do you expect to bring mirth and merriment to the children of Vana'diel if you can't even turn your own frown upside down!? Fortunately, I've got just the tale to raise your spirits."

Seasonal events I don't really care about. Summerfest was fun in 2004. So was that bull one where it'd blast you into different zones. Besides that, the limits enforced kind of ruined the fun.

Endgame events, Salvage is the only event I could truly say I had fun doing. So I definitely want to see that again. Meh to the rest of it. lol.

I like summerfest. It was pretty cool when I first got to see fireworks going off over the horizon as a lowbie in the starter areas.

Not from FFXI but how about Brewfest. Come on who doesn't like the idea of getting drunk and riding a goat through town. Or throwing empty beer steins at bad guys. And can't forget about the byob pony keg. Be the life of the party with your own portable beer keg to share with friends.

Pretty close to reality.

That's very close. There were actually a number of level caps but the only one that matters to us is the lowest(20) because of the proximity to NA release (about 1.5 months in, and don't forget how much harder it was to get exp back then). I know they had a few 30 caps and a few 40 caps. I don't remember if there were any higher than that.

SE had a Time limit on the event, all the servers that beat them within the time limit got the warps. I think the first place had free teleports for awhile(I could be wrong on this one). I'm pretty sure only 2 servers didn't beat all the trees and yes they were eventually grandfathered in.

Twinkling Treants was awesome. Hopefully FFXIV will have more world events like that.
