What job were you in FFXI, what will you play in FFXIV?Follow

I was a PS2 launch player that played until ToA came out. I bought the expansion pack and no longer liked the game.

I was a 75 BLM Taru with full merits, level 100+3 cook and I had every quest, mission, promy etc... done Heck I even levelled every subjob to 37 because I got bored. God gear, +1 everything and I think I had around 28 mil banked up when I quit for good.

There were no more challenges for me.

I don't think I will be a taru in the new one, I don't even think I will be a BLM. Been there, done that...

I am thinking that if they start out with the same base 6 jobs, I will be a Hume Warrior with the long term intentions of being a NIN.

I know they haven't realy got into jobs, or subjobs. But the races are identical, just with different names. So that makes me think the jobs will be the same too.

What are you going to be?

My best buddy of many years was a WHM because he jumped in late and needed a job that he would get party invites without even seeking a party.

Unfortunatly, barring myself and sometimes Kappy...it was hard for him to get help with stuff. People always wanted him for parties but I often ended up duoing (soloing really) most of his quests.

WHM's were used and abused in FFXI, parties in the higher levels would often use a RDM instead, heck I even saw SMN main healers.

My job was the worst, 5-6 BLM's would take off and just AGA the heck of of a room or two. Sometimes we took a Bard to pull for us and boost our magic.

FFXI had many flaws. When I was bored of the game and my BLM was maxed out, I started levelling every job to 37. I really enjoyed being a Taru Monk, but even with millions invested in the best of the best gear and cooking HQ sushi for myself and my whole party...I couldn't buy an invite.

I would have stayed past ToA if I could have levelled Monk as a taru, which I considered a fun job.

BLM/RDM/WHM/SMN/BRD...as a taru, I had invites before I completed my login in most cases.

In XI I was...well, just take a quick glance at my sig.

In XIV I will most likely be an Archer. I played a bow-wielder in pretty much every RPG I've played, so Archer will be my main. As a second job (on the same char), I'll probably be some sort of support job that's available (like Brd in XI). In the long run I'll probably also get a second account and level up a healer/supporter (like I had a Rdm on a second account in XI).

I was a full time WHM in XI.

I don't know if I'd take the healing route again in XIV, though some kind of spellcasting class is probably for me. I do also plan on being a proficient cook, since I dedicated a lot of time and money to that in XI. There's nothing like running around between the major cities completely naked carrying as many Apple Pie ingredients as will fit in your inventory.

WHM in FFXI here, and will be a healer again. With the ability to work on multiple classes though, I'm sure I'll mess around with some melee action too.

FFXIV-> I'd like to use dual wield Great Katana if they let us, otherwise DW scimitar, or scimitar+tower shield.

pretty much the jobs that didn't due easy.

I'm hoping to soak and tank again when 14 comes out, whatever the tank jobs may be.

In XI I played a RNG, and in XIV I'll probably stick with that same type of class, so Archer. Not very interested in any other class, really.

I never got DRK or RNG, yeah you could do good damage but you were paper soldiers that fell in 2 hits. With a PLD tank and cover, you were ok. But in a NIN tanked party, you would have to hold back.

As a Taru BLM/WHM or BLM/RDM whichever I was at the time, I could Stun, Bind, Sleep etc. wayward mobs and keep myself alive and if needed escape or warp.

Maybe Alexander was different, but we went from PLD tanks being the accepted method of play to PLD's not being able to get invites because everybody wanted a NIN tank.

For the record, I hated NIN tanks. I couldn't use IV spells on the mobs, I had to use III and follow with an II spell. Not to mention having to waste your MP on Stun so they could get their shadows back up...

Funny that I want to be a NINJA type class in the new game :p

In FFXI I wanted to be a BLM but I got sick of the job at 56 then went PUP and took it all the way to 75. To bad everyone saw PUP as useless so I HAD to LV BLM to 75 after so many bad experiences happened and then things got boring fast for endgame since imo ffxi's endgame was horrible but I enjoyed the party grind and how fun jobs were. So I lved Dancer to 75 and Scholar as well. If campaign was not put in the game I would have been gone a lot sooner though.

This time I would like to play a Support Class like a Bard though I really hope the one in this game can melee or have weaker healing or nuking or something.

In FFXI my Taru Bard was my main at level 68 before I quit.

I liked Bard, but because it's the worst soloing class in the game, I got frustrated that I needed so much help with quests. So I'll probably be something that can solo better in FFXIV

Black Mage: I was strictly an endgame BLM so i only had a minimal magic attack bonus gear set but i had the highest possible elemental magic skill, i was the powerhouse bomber on Tiamat and every other tough HNM.

Corsair: I consider myself to be the best **** merit party fisherman there is but i was also very deadly on those birds<3.

Paladin: If it needed tanking i was the first person my linkshell called upon but i trained the upcoming Paladins in my LS to be really good so i could go as BLM, lol. :)

In ffxiv i'll most definately play Gladiator and whatever class will most resemble a BLM and COR but i want to change it up a bit so i'll start off with something like a Marauder, Pugilist and a Summoner type class whenever there will be one.

It all the depends on FFXIV's system. In FFXI THF was my main but I also enjoyed WAR and DNC. If possible I'd like to be sort of a hybrid between a THF/NIN or a WAR/NIN (for dual wield options) and RDM.

In FFXI I had BRD and DRG in the 70s. I'm hoping there will be a Bard type job that is purely enhancement, but I may also try whatever the Paladin equivalent is or Lancer. What I DO know is that I'm not going to be whatever the blink tank ends up being. Maybe there'll be a parry or evasion tank. I'd probably try that too. I do like to (blood) tank, and I'd like to be able to get parties easily (assuming EXP parties exist in XIV) and solo some quests. Bards don't solo anything very fast.

So basically: Bard Archetype + Lancer (if it's awesome) or Paladin Archetype. If no Bard, combination of the other two. Perhaps all three. Man, I want some info on classes now.

Also don't forget about Disciples of the Hand/Land!

Err, what?

Did you play the same game I played?

Cuz uh, RNG had roughly 7 hits (whatever Utsu:Ni and Utsu:Ichi add up to) before they'd start getting whomped, where a BLM had Stoneskin, then...you were pretty much boned.

BTW with a good NIN, I never had to hold back, ever. I actually had to hold back more with PLD tanks (that and they were terrible for RNG groups anyway).

They're not the same things. A paper tiger is something that only looks fierce, but is actually harmless. A glass cannon is very dangerous, but breaks easily.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Always wanted to level WHM (for some Hexaz! would look cool if I was a taru though...) but after leveling PLD.. I couldn't stop curing ppl to take hate... not a good idea as whm lol.

Guess I'll start as a caster this time or maybe Archer this time.

I think I will likely go along the Lancer path to start in FFXIV. I've partially levelled almost every job in the game, and DRG was always my favorite... not because of the wyvern, but because of the attack style. I am hoping they manage to keep the play style similar.

FFXI was my first mmorpg, while i was installing it i decided that Dragoon would be my first job. Obviously that couldn't be the case.

I fooled around with various jobs for a while before i realized that Red Mage was the best fit for my play style. Beyond RDM i hoped to play as a Summoner. Of course that wasn't meant to be either, as when i played SMN was A its least effecient form. I hear they patched it into a respectable class, but that was after i quit.

I played from 2001-2005 before i finally decided to move on to another game. (WoW) I figured i would play melee classes in this new game to have an entirely fresh experience.

However, after playing since roughly 2007 i have managed to inadvertantly play as cloth classes more frequently than as melee classes. Currently I have Mage, and Warlock at level 80, and priest at 50. (80 is the current max)
As well as a 70 Rogue, and a 65 Warrior.

After all this time playing mmorpg's I've realised that i fill the roll of support most effeciently. Therefore I will play whatever the support class is in FFXIV.

I'm hoping whatever the support class is in FFXI it will retain some of the flexibility of RDM, as well as a decent portion of the style. As much as i hate to take a conservative stand on FFXIV i'm gonna go ahead and put in my hopes that the feathered hat returns.

If ninja is actually a ninja this time around i will try it. Last time it was a fill in tank that required lots of money, not my idea of a ninja.

I will go thief/ranger and a crafting job of some sort. to start. Maybe a monk or redmage if it suits me.

I often think that I quit at the right time, if not a little too late. Then I think when I quit was the right time to start...if you wanted an easy game.

I got to 75 on the oldschool system. They took almost 200,000 exp off the total to 75 and upped the amount of exp per fight. The max before was 200, none of the chain 10's for 400 that we were getting afterwards.

Truth be told I was a little mad that it took me 11 months to go from start to 75 and new players could do it in 3 months.

20% less exp needed to 75, up to 100% or more exp per fight and exp enchantment rings etc...

I played 1 job and I played it well. Levelling subjobs was a chore, but I did it.

I was taking monk to 75 under the new system and realized a) this is too easy, hence it's no fun anymore and b) no matter how hardcore my gear war, no matter how I used my 100+3 cooking to cook for myself and my whole party...I couldn't get an invite as a Taru Monk.

Any thoughts?

In XI I had the hopes of becoming SMN, so I started off as WHM. I only leveled BLM for sublevel and then I finally got WHM to 30 and immediately began the quest for SMN, but along the way I decided to try out my hand at other things. I found that I really sucked a NIN, but I really liked DRK so after I took SMN to somewhere in my twenties, I stuck with DRK. SMN was too broken for my tastes - I ended up having to main heal.

In XIV I want to probably try my hand any Ninja type class, maybe Thief or archer but if there is a Summoning class, I'd definitely go for it. In the latest Dengeki interview, they said that getting avatars will be quite a task, so I'm excited for that.

It's not "too easy", it's "less of a time-sink". All leveling was easy in FFXI. You found 5 other competent people (that's where the real challenge was), find a grinding spot, grind for a few hours, walk away with a few thousand XP.

"Challenging" or "easy" are both often inappropriately used in the context of FFXI. Just because something takes longer doesn't make it more difficult or "too easy".

I was a SMN in FFXI and enjoyed it when I played as that job. For FFXIV what I might do is pick a class from each of the disciples and play as them switching between the 4 I would chooses. So far if I followed the 4 choice plan I would be an Alchemist, Lancer, and not sure about other groups yet since we don't know what they all are.

In FFXI I was many things... DNC 56, DRG63, BST 68, MNK 62, BLU 42 after a while though I just fell into being a BST with no need for a party I found myself getting alot more done in a shorter amount of time. I didn't have to wait for anyone just run out into the field find a nice wide area to camp in an slay away only having to worry about myself. I'm going to be going with Lancer in FFXIV because that was my first 60+ job back when it was lol DRG... But I still liked it all the same. I would still be playing if the game wasn't a hindrance on real life just don't have the time to spend on it anymore.

In FFXI my main squeeze was SAM. I leveled SAM to 75 on both of my accounts and loved being a DD/TP machine. I also took PLD, RNG, BLU, THF and DRK to 75. Definitely a melee guy. I'm really not sure what I'll end up playing in FFXIV though, largely because I still have no idea how the class system is really going to be fleshed out or what kind of jobs will be added. I also want to know more about the classes that have been revealed so far. Obviously I've been reading up on XIV incessantly and have asked myself what I intend on starting as more than a few times, but I don't think I'll really have an answer until release gets much, much closer. Obviously, I'm looking mostly at the melee classes (been thinking Lancer) but from the brief descriptions that are available, a couple of casting classes seem appealing. Ultimately it will depend mostly on the mechanics of the classes and which fits my playing style.

I had two passions in FFXI: THF and Bonecrafting. If I play FFXIV, then I'm going to probably play just for the crafting and gathering jobs. If it turns out that I need to level a job in order to continue playing past the crafting and gathering, then it will probably be a healer job or a self-sufficient melee (something akin to MNK/DNC).

In XI, I'm practically every mage job there is, along with quite a few melee jobs.

In XIV? I don't know. I'd like to be whatever job that can cast those globe style shields first (in the preview vid and the first pic on the media section for the screenshots), and then maybe an archer this go around.

(And yeah, I was a Pld in XI - probably why I'm interested in seeing the mobs pound futilely on my shield again. I swear, I'd grin every time I saw it.)

I was a taru blackmage. I want to see the rest of the class choices before I make a final decision but from whats out so far, I think I want to be either an Archer or a Tanner. Haven't decided on a race yet. The Lalafell just don't have QUITE the same feel as taru did, and I don't want to be a galka... so I guess that just leaves the hume/elvaan/mithra equivalents. I'll probably choose that after I see all of my character customization choices.

I was a RDM in XI, and in this game, I'm gonna be whichever job has the best support abilities. However, I plan to take on a crafting job first thing in the game. Unfortunately, the biggest problem I had in FFXI was never having enough money to do what I wanted to do. This time around, I'm gonna concentrate on making money moreso than any other gameplay feature, that way, I can rest easy when I'm playing my main class.

Between the crafting classes, I'm leaning more towards cooking and alchemy than any others, so I'll probably be one of those when I begin.

I am BLM, BLU, and DRG.

BLM is fun endgame, but sucks that alot of time is wasted getting buffer exp back. I could be working on another job or making more gil but BLM (or at least me, cause I do lots of events) is very death prone especially in Dynamis when you only have 1-3 BLM and pulls are huge, sleep resists, etc.

BLU and DRG are fun, but hardly sees the light of day except for my Nyzul static where I'm BLU. I dare not finish BRD because I'll probably never merit on DRG again.

on FFXIV I defiantly plan on an archer class first, maybe a pugilist after, then a healing class.

I did beastmaster for a while, but eventually I swapped to dragoon/mage for my soloing needs. I hope we can get drg/mage in FFXIV >< sorry I don't know the job list and haven't really tried hard enough to look for it. Having my little wyvern cast a cure III for a near instant cast 8 mp spell was priceless.

I like playing the key- (tank/healer) or support class (buffer/debuffer) or just mage-type classes, I don't enjoy melee/pet classes. I was PLD/RDM/BLM in FF XI and thinking of trying Bard or the like if there is one in FF XIV, so we'll see.

In FFXI I switched off between a taru white mage and elvaan warrior. I ended up sticking with the elvaan, despite liking the white mage more because of my old stupid obsession with Japanese culture. Ended up regretting that and found that I liked paladin and the mage classes in the most in FFXI. If FF14 has a mana system like XI I'll probably go any of the mage classes; healer or dps. If they have a mana system more like most MMOs where downtime isn't really a factor I'll probably go a healer or tank.

I was a RDM main way back when. I'd like to be that again. I loved the versatility of the job. I quit a few years ago and I heard that RDM became the go to job for healing. I hope that isn't the case in FFXIV. I didn't mind main healing, but I would hate to be asked to do it all the time. I was working on SAM when I quit as well. I'd probably go with something similar for a change of pace.

I'm a taru blm in FFXI.... but in 14 I think that first off, I'd like to be a little taller this time around. XD And as far as a job... I wish they would give us the rest of the job options before I finally start deciding. From what is out so far, however, I would like to either be an Archer or a Tanner.

Well as I was a DRK/THF/MNK I will try something new and probably go along the lines of Gladiator with Blacksmithing. I wonder if having high crafting levels will increase your combat skills in some way (like they did with WoW)
