I played a Taru Black Mage to 75 and liked it quite a bit. My second highest what THF which I also liked. To some extent I wish I'd played a mroe versatile race. I will admit to min/max tendancies, so playing a taru taru monk (or w/e) just wasn't something I could get into.

This time I'll be starting with friends which may make a large difference in how I approach the game. I hope that we'll sort of dip our toes in to test the waters, instead of picking mains and rushing around. I really liked crafting, so something like thief could be useful for collecting mats. In WoW I've come to like tanking, so maybe a paladin? Of course, party support is always in demand - red mage? GAH ITS TOUGH!

But with any luck I'll get my "main" name that I use for TeamSpeak and in any game where it is available. If I can, I'll just pick a race that best fits and take it from there. I think Hume Lancer may fit the bill, especially if they have tanking capabilities.

And I'll make a little TaruTaru Black Mage Alchemist name Bongaru and keep him for a bank alt!

Once a healer, always a healer...

Though I'm sure I will lvl some kind of melee job as well. Probably pugilist. (i hate that name btw.. reminds me of the pugils from ffxi)

I was a hume back in ffxi, but i think i need a change.

Most likely will be a mithra (or w/e the name is).. i cant help it theyre just too adorable...

the tarus are pretty freakin cute too XD

Maybe Alexander was different, but we went from PLD tanks being the accepted method of play to PLD's not being able to get invites because everybody wanted a NIN tankFor the record, I hated NIN tanks. I couldn't use IV spells on the mobs, I had to use III and follow with an II spell. Not to mention having to waste your MP on Stun so they could get their shadows back up...

obviously not EVERYONE wanted nin tanks rofl....

I hate Nin TANKS too... but thats beating a dead horse

MNK and BST were my 2 lvl 75 jobs in XI. I absolutley loved BST but I am a MNK at heart and my first "Main" job in XIV will definitely be Pugilist. Once I have that accomplished I would really like to return and level a BST-like job, if one is included, and then advance a healer and a tank. In that order.

I think im going to go with archer with a mage possibility as a secondary job or however it will work.
I dont see much diversity in the job selection but ffxiv is still very virgin so wii will see.
Botanist ? gtfo it better not be the new dnc, maybe grow some <magic> <leaf>? with + stats :)

I was a 75 WHM and was working on getting BLM up to 75 when I finally quit for good. I love BST as well but could only get it up to 20 before quitting due to time constraints. The thing I really love about the new ideas in FFXIV is that they treat crafting as more of a job that you can do while simultaneously adventuring. I never had the desire to craft because I loathed sitting in a city for hours after filling my inventory with mats when I could be out doing my quests/missions/leveling and the hundreds of other things I needed to do. It sounds like the integration here is much more sound, so I am definitely going to try my hand at multiple disciplines but I will most likely stick to healing because helping people is my passion and my downfall haha.

I was a Tarutaru BLM75 main, and 75RDM as my secondary job. Although towards the end of my FFXI career, RDM was slowly becoming my main. I'm excited to learn more about FFXIV and the playable races/jobs and such. But I've always loved magic throughout the Final Fantasy series. I'll probably focus on the Disciple of Magic. Then again, it all depends how I feel on the release date. If the benefits each race gains is similar to FFXI, I may not venture into the Disciple of Magic because the Lalafell look terrible, in my opinion.

I was an Elvaan Dragoon, and LOVED every second of it. Even when I couldn't get an invite no matter what I did for the "A Crystalline Prophecy" final fight.

So I'll most likely be a Lancer in this new one, and miss my little Dragon terribly.

So yeah. tl:dr
PLD or SCH.

I came in to FFXI in 2004 thinking I'd be a SAM/RNG and roleplay a **** load. That didn't pan out from the moment I saw jeuno's guards in their armor. I ended up having a blast with all the attention being a PLD required, moreso than my MNK or WAR up to that point. It was my first to 75 and it turns out I got pretty good at it just having fun. I also finished MNK, but it was more out of love for partying with friends and having a DD job to make sure our group of friends enjoyed success wherever/whatever we did together. Same story with COR.

Having said all that I will most likely do whatever job is closest to a tank. My second class or choice would have to be a melee of some sort or a mage, but only if there is a mage class similar to scholar's versatility.

I had rng50 war42 nin40 thf39 drg36 sam37 drk70 but couldn't get ANY mage job past the 20's save red mage because I was able to solo like a BLM and had a friend help PL so i could use it for PLD sub. SCH however...I loved it to death. I loved being able to have a functional list of spells to effectively replace a BLM or a WHM, filling whatever, if any, mage slot was available in a party up to the level I stopped, 43. I loved the MP conservation because that was one of my biggest struggles as a mage, situational awareness and planning out spell usage + MP costs + what i'll need to do to have that MP available when I need it. SCH helped sooo much with that.

Based on my obsession with Raise and RR, I will likely play all of the following (if available):

Whitemage (FFXI: Raise and RR)
Redmage (FFXI: Raise)
Scholar (FFXI: Raise and RR)
Paladin (FFXI: Raise)
Bard (FFXI: Goddess's Hymnus -> AoE RR)
Bluemage (FFTA: Angel's Whisper -> RR)
Dragoon (FFTA: Dragon Heart / Dragon Spirit -> RR)
Defender (FFTA: Aura -> RR)
White Monk (FFTA: Revive -> Raise)
Sage (FFTA: Raise)

Just like the case for my FFXI Jobs.

p.s. BST don't count as I leveled BST to 75 for use as a SJ.

I was an Elvaan rdm, loved the job, and if it will be in XIV in some form, I'd hope to see it more solo friendly with better sword abbilities. In FFXIV I'd want to be an archer first though, but only if archer can also climb trees and shoot the target from a tree, and be able to use daggers in close combat! Now that'd be brill! xD

I played BST as my main job but I also really liked HELM and crafting. I was a Mithra and I plan to continue that legacy with the Miqo'te

Since soloing is more of an option (which I like since I can set my own schedule in a better way) for all jobs it seems, I'm not really sure what I'll try.

I am delighted that the crafter stuff are now considered jobs on their own, and as such I definitely suspect that most of my time will be spent crafting or gathering materials (fishing most likely).

In FFXI, 5x75 including a healer, a support, a nuker, and two melees. Half a dozen ore in the 50-65 range (11 complete sets of AF, even if I can't fully wear some of them yet) and the rest are 37-49.

In FFXIV... probably going to level everything again. Might start myself off with melee, nuker, healer, tank and see what I like best.

DRG and RDM as my mains in XI, with BST, BLU and PUP dabbled on the side.

Definitely doing Lancer as DRG/LNC is my favorite FF job, and if they ever introduce an enemy skill discipline I'll be on that too as BLU is my 2nd favorite FF job.
Hoping there's a BST type discipline, as I'll take that up.
And of course I loved fishing in XI, so I'll take up Fisherman discipline, excited that they seem to work like actual jobs in XIV.

My primary was WHM 75, and in every MMORPG I have ever played (Ragnarok Online almost a decade ago, right up to World of Warcraft at present, and a ton of little free MMOs spattered about in between) I have always, always been a healer. Always.

I would imagine I'd try to specialize in that area again, although I'd also like to become proficient with a bow this time around. Not exactly sure why.. maybe just for a complete change of pace ;)

In XI I was a NIN and I loved every second of it. I ended up quitting and moving to WoW where I played a Rogue because it was the most similar class to NIN. Of all my time spent playing MMO's NIN shadow tanking has been by far the highlight. Using everything available to you to hold hate from BLM's, WAR's, MNK's and other aggro heavy dps while knowing that you are walking a very thing line between the mob facing you and turning to rape that Taru BLM who just cast Thundaga III was a very intense and fun experience. It was definitely a crap ton more fun than spamming sinister strike and keeping SnD up on WoW.. When XIV comes out I'm playing Gladiator until the NIN class makes a re-appearance. If it ever does.

I think you know that's not true. You're just looking for a reason to come back, and since there is next to no info you don't have it. We'll see you in a few months. Just when you thought you were out... they cast Slowga, caught up to you, put you on an airship, and flew you back in.

Lesse... in FFXI I was 75 RDM/BRD/BLU with just about everything else at or around 37-40, except BLM SUM and SAM which were around 50. 100 Alchemist, 60 cook, 60 blacksmith, 30-something GS, and I forget the rest. =P

FFXIV? Hmmm.. Well, I am attracted to mage classes so that pretty much says I will start of as Thau or Conj. I have a feeling there will be like 50,000,000 Conj though =(

I did enjoy SAM and WAR much more than I expected in FFXI with the skill chaining. Thus, if there are skill chains in FFXIV, I will probably also delve into the melee classes a bit probably starting with Marauder or Lancer as I prefer not to tank. >.>;

As for crafting... I'm a craft-a-holic so I will probably dabble in just about everything.

IT was my main until i quit cause I hate the fact that SE add to much crap that frustrated me, like the new add ons and new "weapons" thats so stupid and just time consuming to try to get something that is not worth it, just cause is "new" and maybe have just a little extra hits or dmg is not worth it to me, and yes is my choice to do them or not but still they should not add that kind of crap!

I had 5 main characters during the several times I played ffxi:
1st was a Galka (the Ghengis Khan alike) and I got him to 50 something, I forget exactly, as WAR.
Then I quit and started over, moved server and started a manthra THF got it to 60 something.
Then I took over my cousins SAM and got it to 75 did some endgame, oh and quit.
Then I moved server and made another Galka which I played on another server again, and quit @ 50 but more on him later..
I came back and made another manthra, got it to 75 war.
Then I quit again, came back and got the SAM manthra back and leveled THF to 75 and NIN+DNC+BLM to 50-60ish, got bored and quit that server again.
Then I recently got my , the newer one Galka, up to 75 on DRG.
I leveled nin and a few other subs to 37 or + 6 times (yup had another alt I never mentioned).
What an idiot you may say, but not my fault irl jobs > ffxi jobs and I lived in the EU almost all that time, what can you do!?
In ffxiv I will probably do the same, just not quit, and pootle along with 2-3 chars on the same account, then again...
Oh I may have got some in the wrong order, nvm, but how many times did I go through the dunes, someone I deserve a medal!? xD

Played a RDM for most of my time in XI, PLD a lot too. Trying to figure which mage style will be most like RDM, but neither (from their discription at least) really looks like a RDM. One seems to be more support magic, but nothing about armor or weapon choices looks like RDM. I'll probably start as a gladiator, and go from there.

There were no more challenges for me.
Same reason I stopped playing.

I don't know what I was primarily. Samurai, I guess, since I started a relic weapon for it. I loved Beastmaster though, and when I wasn't busy carrying people on SAM or NIN, I was meriting and listening to music in Boyahda Tree. Between Bonecrafting and Boyahda Tree meriting, I made enough gil to have +1 everything, most of a relic weapon, and even supported my IRL friend's Goldsmithing to 100. (Which actually made me money in the end, since he liked to throw me money on the backend once he was 100.)

I actually didn't complete my Yoichinoyumi before I quit, since a lot of my friends jumped over to WoW and I went with them reluctantly.

I don't know what I'll do in 14. I've played every role in WoW, healer, tank, damage, so I'm capable of playing anything. I guess I'll feel it out.

Had Paladin and Blue Mage as my first lvl 75 jobs, then messed with Ninja, Dragoon and Black Mage... but this time I'm going for full offensive melee. Raw, coldly efficient, decimation.

I'll definitely start with Lancer, add some basic Thau and Conjuring skills in there, and then level Maurader + Gladiator. The mobs had better be very afraid if it turns out we can Ninja-dual-wield again in FFXIV... heh.
