FFXIV Anouncement Incoming 28th FebFollow

The FFXI Vanafest site was launched with lots of info, but relevantly this is what it says on the site;

Quote:
Secret Bonus Stage
A mysterious FINAL FANTASY XIV event!

Official Website

So let the speculation roll like a snowball going downhill into a pit of craziness!

I'll be the first to say it, I'm gonna hazard a guess it's the Official 360 announcement.

I can't see it being anything to do with Beta, they wouldn't make an anouncement like "The Beta starts 10th March! Too bad only 1% of you will get to play it lol!"

If there is an XIV event, I'm sure there will be more news.

Since it says event. I would have to wager that those who attend get to test out another aspect of FFXIV. Either DOM, DOH, or DOL.

Did you forget this is Square Enix? They made an update announcement where 33% of the information was /bell.

I'd hope that it's going to be the beta announcement. The year is going to fly by fast and if they really want a 4ish month beta period with time after to tweak what was found, they will need to get it announced and people up and running in the next couple months for a 2010 release.

I mean, they said that it was specifically an "event", and announcing that there will be a 360 version at launch doesn't really sound like much of an "event" worthy of its own announcement at vanafest.

EDIT: I also love this part:

Vanafest 2010 Page wrote:

When have they ever given out "loads" of information :p

Hopefully if it is the beta announcement there is some info coming with it. I just need a screenshot to hold me over....it's getting painful. The best would be some playable content like at Gamescon, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hmm event, could mean anything really. My first thought was some sort of contest relating to FF XIV but I'm hoping for some solid info. Two hole weeks, what to do till then?

More than one announcement, I would hope. We're way overdue for another flood of info like at GamesCom.

I have high hopes for Vanafest to get some nice information about more of the things that everyone would like to know about Final Fantasy XIV. Maybe there'll even be something similar to the alpha demo but revamped to show off alot more than the one in germany. I'd be very pleased with a good gameplay video and a little something about the classes so anything after that would be icing on the cake.

In Japan? Sounds unlikely. SE didn't even release FF13 on the 360 in Japan... the 360 in Japan isn't exactly big.

****, the event could just be the game being playable by people there. Doesn't mean there will be announcement.

Whatever it is it probably wont be enough to sate us if SE is going to keep it's current trend of mediocre announcements and repeated interview questions.

Maybe they will amend their release date from "Sometime this year" to "Sometime in november or december this year"

If they announce that it is going to be released on the 360, there might be a riot :/

If it is an event, it will probably be either a new trailer or a gameplay session like the one in Germany a while back.

You guys really shouldn't be expecting much other than some Q&A questions and people being able to play another section of FFXIV. The "events" at these things is almost always something only the people there can participate in. Sometimes its a concert session. It could also mean people get to participate in a battlefield/one shot event related to FFXIV (the previous versions of these got added into the FFXI game as a just for fun, no reward scenario that you get when winning rank 5 mog bonanza XD). Furthermore this is "VANA"fest as in Vana'diel and the actual 'announcements' deals with FFXI only. Let me repeat, you will likely get info on FFXIV during the developer Q&A and may get new info from people playing a new section of the game. An actual announcement is probably not coming at all.

the best info will come out after the FF13 USA release (march 9th). They don't want any distraction away from this game until its been released.

I don't see how it can get any better then having another playable section. Unless of course it's the same zone lol.

I doubt that will be it. If they announced it for the 360, it'd be mainly for the American consumer base, so they'd be more likely to release that at an American event than in Japan. X10 would have been the perfect time for that, and they said nothing.

Say what you will, I'm calling it. SE will announce the commencement of BETA on Feb. 28. They can't afford to wait much longer to get the ball rolling if they intend to keep their goal of a 2010 release and Vanafest is a great venue to kick things off for XIV.

Me thinks said "event notice" will be the announcement of the Eorzeafest and its date. Whatever the XIV news is, its long overdue. I just hope its not just a c*cktease worth of info, 2 + months of not a peep is starting to have me lose interest in this game. I was so excited when they announced XIV now I'm just so-so about it

Id love to hear about beta kick off so we can compulsively check our inboxes more than we are. Also some more detailed class info and how the "leveling" / subclass (if it exists) will work.

i think they will inform us about the fact that they, duo fortunate times, are able to release FFXIV in march one week after the festifal.

Also, there will be moogles with greataxes.

Those, plus the disciplines of war and hand, are what I'm really hoping to finally hear. I just want the info that I can use to start thinking about how I'll start my character (fleshing out the other starting cities would be nice as well).

Unless you mean even more detail about them, we already know DoW is Archer, Gladiator, Maraudor, Pugilist, and Lancer, while the DoH is Alchemist, Tanner, Weaver, Blacksmith, and Culinarian. But if you do infact mean even more detail I agree too, but we know barely anything about DoM and DoL.

By the way, I was just looking and the german site actually says
Quote:
Secret Bonus Level
Perhaps it has something to do with Final Fantasy XIV?

I think the word "event" was just poor translation, so this opens up the doors to anything, it's not neccissarily just an event like a competition or something.

And remember, whatever it is isn't going to overshadow the FFXI anouncement, so it all depends really.
If they anounce something dull like Avatars, it'll likely be just a trailer or something
If they anounce an expansion, then it could be anything really, I mean this is where they can get people thinking "OH WOW I really want to play that, but it's gonna take soooo long! Oh I know I'll play FFXI and it's new expansion!"

Either that, or the two anouncements could be linked; crazy speculation begins here.(Note you should probably disregard most of this because it is just me dreaming)

-Cross game Linkshell chat: They were keeping hushhush about guilds, but why?
-Character transfers: The idea of keeping your name/Appearance/etc.
-A Lobby type area where the two worlds meet? You will have scaled back XI gra;hics though, of course.
-Perhaps we will be told XIV is set some thousands of years either before or ahead of XI, and we get to see how Vana'diel became Eorzia -- or vise versa

Could be anything...

Well, what you just listed isn't really a lot of info, IMHO. Unless I'm mistaken, the website only has a full set of info for Gladiator and Pugilist. Archer and Lancer have descriptions, but are missing the "view arms" tab that displays their different weapons, and their uses. Marauder doesn't even have a description yet.

Plus, who's to say that those will be the only DoW's available on release? I'm expecting more than those listed, even if it's something that's only available a little later on in the game.

All I'm saying is that I could definitely use some more information there. It's just not a lot to work with.

FFXI shipped with fewer jobs than what FFXIV will have classes based on what has already been posted. It's worth noting that the classes in FFXIV are probably more general archetypes that will take on similarity to other "jobs" based on how you choose to progress them.

Definitely true. I'm just perplexed that there doesn't appear to be a thief/ninja type class right now. Perhaps when the Marauder class gets fleshed out it'll make things clearer.

That's definitely the kind of thing I'm talking about though. If the way that the class system is intended to function is explained a bit further, it'd help a lot. Right now we're just left to speculate on the majority of it.

I keep thinking about this for some reason. Probably because the races are still the same with just different names. I keep thinking Eorzia is going to be pre-vana'diel.

It actually makes more sense that Eorzea came after Vanadiel because of the new character designs and some of the technology from what we have seen seems more advanced.

Anyway as far as the announcement goes, I just hope it is something worthwhile. I would like either a ton of screenshots or a new video with some more information on the game itself. Don't really care about a beta announcement too much because I would rather have a date on the release of FFXIV.
