Cool, can't wait to hear about FFXIV at FFXI's Vanafest.
#53VrKurosawa, Posted: Feb 16 2010 at 3:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) They'll abandon XIV just like they did XI one day. EQ this is not.

I lol'd. This reminds me of the retarded L4D2 boycott. Except L4D2 turned out to be a fantastic successor, and I have have high hopes for XIV as well. 8 years of support is still impressive, given the high fail rate in the MMO genre.

Most likely nothing earth shattering will be announced.

Do you hate Microsoft for abandoning Windows 3.0, too?

Look, I can understand being frustrated with how little SE's seemingly put into XI over the past few years. Given past arguments in feedback and the timing of your appearance, I also have a good idea about you having an alternate name. Nonetheless, there's nothing prophetic about making vague generalizations just so you can proclaim you're right a year down the road just because one had something kinda sorta happen related to it.

Times change. Tech upgrades. Peoples' tastes change. It's not in SE's best interest to pander to a select few clinging to the good ol' days when you can acquire the money of millions over a few hundred thousand. Honestly, the only way XI can justifiably get a buff is if they dropped the PS2. Until that happens, people are gonna flock to the late model sports car of a game long before the old family station wagon that is now XI. As someone who played XI for 7 years, if you've exhausted the entirety of all it has to offer, I'd argue you played long enough as is.

Hey, more power to them. I won't be there. And they'll do to XIV exactly what they're doing to XI. Just wish they would have finished the game before they abandoned it. It's too bad that they wouldn't let the fans who actually care about it take over, but no chance of that.

Eh, finished the game?

Anyways, I'm all for game companies setting up persistent servers after their done adding new content. But FFXI had a good, long run as far as MMORPG's go these days. And considering that FFXIV looks to continue FFXI's tradition (following it quite closely, too), with some sorely needed graphical upgrades, what's so unreasonable about this?

Perhaps you should wait to give the game a try, or at least see what the early returns are on it when it comes out, before you decide that this is such a bad thing.

Almost time to see what the FFXIV event is. I hope it gets the ball rolling and we start to see some more solid info about the game.
