I'm posting this here since I know some of our readers here don't view our XI site, but Elmer will be traveling to Tokyo today to cover VanaFest tomorrow, where he will post any relevant XIV information. If you're unable to view any of the live streams coming from the event, I'll be posting updates in this thread.

I don't think there's a "part", it sounds to me more like just some news. This is still an XI festival.

As for staying up in the dead of the night, I'll change the coverage to a transcript afterwards so that you guys can wake up at a decent time and just read through it.

I'm currently in Santiago, Chile and what went down last night was absolutely horrifying. I have not been able to watch the news with power-outages, lack of cable, not being permitted to leave my host family's house (that thankfully made it through the worst relatively unscathed) and I'm trying to get information on Japan because the tsunamis are due to the massive earthquake here. I heard Hawaii is also under a serious tsunami watch so I hope everything thing is ok on Pikko's end. The earthquake was a 9 in the epicenter compared to the 7 in Haiti, and in Santiago it reached an 8.8, I believe. I know the tsnuami watch is spreading because even here we are still experiencing repercussions and they will continue for the next two months. If Elmer is still covering Vanafest, PLEASE be careful as this situation is still hot. I also hope everyone else this is affecting on ZAM is fairing well and keeping current on the strange occurrences in the Pacific because this seems to be some sort of world-wide natural disaster period.

With the eagerly anticipated FINAL FANTASY XIV drawing ever nearer its beta test phase, we are excited to announce that we will be conducting a closed alpha test—exclusive to our loyal FINAL FANTASY XI users!
Those who have been selected as beta testers can expect to receive further information starting from Monday, March 1.
* The tester website is scheduled to go live on Thursday, March 11.

Those who were not selected in this drawing, fear not, for there will be other opportunities to come. Be sure to stay tuned!

VanaFest is over. That's all there was.

E-mails will be sent later today to notify the initial beta test group of their selection. Beta is starting March 11. Everyone at Vanafest has the opportunity to participate in an alpha build from March 1 to March 11. Further beta invitations will be extended throughout the beta phase, possibly opening to anyone who wishes to participate before launch. What part of this news wasn't good enough for you?

Anticipating an update to the official website sometime this week.

There will be likely be several beta opt-in points throughout the beta as they move closer to completion so that they can get a more refined test done as well as building up to the server stress tests. Nobody knows if SE is going to announce when those intakes are going to be. All we know is that VanaFest attendees get a "sneak peak" before the actual beta begins and that the beta site goes live on March 11.

If past experience holds true, I'll get into the beta like 3 days before the game's release. I'm always in the last possible set of beta invites. Now, I'm not complaining, because it's all a bonus regardless, but it sure would be nice to get in on some early beta. I'm perfectly happy bug-testing, I just need something to occupy my time while my girlfriend has the TV commandeered to watch "Project Runway" :P
