XIV Beta, March 11th?Follow

#1 Feb 28 2010 at 3:20 AM Rating: Good
So someone on my future XIV LS's board (who it sounds like is at Vana Fest) just posted that XIV Beta is announced to start March 11th? Smiley: drool2

No confirmation yet, but if this is true.... Could XIV be out by September, assuming as long as a 6 month Beta?

Still waiting on an answer.

I usually hate posting anything without knowing for sure, but I don't think he would just pull this out of his a$$.

My Japanese is not very good but from what I heard they were talking about it starting in June, however I might have made a mistake in my translations. Either way, I'm pretty sure they were giving dates for it just now at Vana Fest. We'll see, I'm very excited myself.

That's the word I was getting from the live chat. Though I think people were referring to it as "alpha" stage, for what that's worth.

My guess is it'll be closed beta for now, with things expanding a little past March. But I'd wait for more official word from someone who's got a clue of what's going on. ; )

March 11th, right in the middle of when my girlfriend is staying with me AND in the middle of one of my most difficult courses.

And yet, I still hope it happens, in a cruel, masochistic way.

Crazy, I just got to my dorm from saturday night, and VanaFest already started in Japan.

A). I hope the beta starts in may-july. I think I speak for many when I say that if I got into the beta I wouldn't be able to play in March or April due to Spring Break and Finals.

B). I hope there is more information about FFXIV then just the beta announcement.

"With the eagerly anticipated FINAL FANTASY XIV drawing ever nearer its beta test phase, we are excited to announce that we will be conducting a closed alpha test—exclusive to our loyal FINAL FANTASY XI users! Those who have been selected as beta testers can expect to receive further information starting from Monday, March 1."

I hope everybody put in there FFXI info :D

if not, no beta for you XD

FFXI users get access to the closed alpha, which is not the same as the beta. If the beta site is going live on March 11th as they announced (confirmed on VanaFest page), it stands to reason that the beta will begin at that time as well (or very shortly thereafter). 4-6 month beta puts retail release viable for late Q3/early-mid Q4. Sounds like they're on track.

Have to say the event was so much better than I expected.

I hope the secret trailer is added to the official site sometime.

Not that this is in any way technical, but i do want to say that as a Gamestop employee I'm a little concerned about the 2010 release date. The Reason? It's not available for reserve yet. Let me explain why this concerns me...

Gamestop will not typically put a game up for reserve unless they have concrete information from the developer about a release date. The fact that S-E hasn't given Gamestop a projected release makes me think that it could easily get bumped back into 2011.

Believe me, I want this game in 2010, i want the beta, and i know a lot of other people who are pumped for this game. But I'm thinking we should be a bit more cautious about its release date. I know this isn't a be-all, end-all for release dates, but most games enter Gamestop's reserve list AT LEAST 1 year in advance of release, and with this being a big MMO, I'm just not seeing the 2010 release as enough time to drum up orders to compete with the other big MMO's.

There is no release date yet for a very important reason. SE has stated that they want to finalize the game through feedback from beta testers. Therfore, the game won't be finished untill Beta is complete. This doesn't mean there won't be a 2010 release date. So far, SE is right on schedule.

i think MMO is different, they want a beta before it's released, they are not sure how the beta test will go, so they are holding it up.
that should make sense

So if we really want to get into the beta, should we spend $10 and pickup FFXI?

I was also a Gamestop employee for 2.5 years we both know that not every single game, ESPECIALLY MMO's, have their release date posted in the booklet a year in advance although it would make our jobs much easier if they were. This is also SE we're talking about, and I'm pretty sure they didn't give the FFXIII exact release date a year ago when I was working there. Age of Conan also gave a release date six months in advance and was pushed back several times which made Gamestop look pretty bad to its customers for taking reserves on it so early. This is also just at my store because I know depending on the district manager things can change or be left out.

I think the distinction should be made that the VanaFest site says that the beta SITE will go live on March 11, not that beta starts then.

From my understanding: Those who are selected to be in the Beta will get a notification email on March 1st. Vana'fest attendees and some random players from Final Fantasy XI are going to be doing an Alpha test starting March 1st. **Please correct me if i'm wrong.**

The tester website is scheduled to go live on Thursday, March 11.

I take it that this means the Beta tester website and not the Alpha tester website.

How are people going to get the Alpha downloaded if there's not a tester website for it? I'm just a little confused here is all.

I agree that it's something we should keep in mind, but any guess what purpose a "tester site" could have besides supporting the beta? It won't be a sign-up site -- we already have that. It won't be a game info site -- we already have that. I'm just not sure what they could put on there besides the client download and support information. In other words, the tester site going live means the beta/alpha (they don't clarify which) goes live. Or worst case, the client goes up for download on March 11 but isn't activated until a few days later.

Or it could be a community website/forum for beta testers to submit bugs into a database for SE to check up on. Although it's SE so chances of that happening are...?

Why would you put it up after beta starts?

It would contain documentation that beta players are expected to read and rules to adhere to. You'd want them to read this before it actually starts.

There was no explicit mention of random FFXI players. The only explicit mention was that the attendees of VanaFest would be given access to a brief closed alpha.

great marketing stretagy on SE's part, letting FFXI players get in the FFXIV alpha/beta tests, to make them try out the game and potentially move to FFXIV or play both.
and on the other hand make other long awaited fans decide to get back to FFXI in a chance of thinking that might get them in the FFXIV beta as well..

but anywayz, question is... HOW ARE WE GOING TO FIND THAT LINK TO THE BETA SITE? are they gonna post a link to it on the official site or they are going to email it to the selected beta testers!!???

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
