Separate from the beta information, Impress Watch also clarifies some details on just what was shown for FFXIV at the event. Square Enix showed the game's opening movie, which was just completed one week prior. They also showed real gameplay footage.

The Impress writer wrote that the opening movie can be thought of as a full version of the pre rendered sections from the trailer that debuted at E3. They wouldn't share details, as they were worried about spoilers. It seems that there's a little trick to the game that you'll understand after watching the movie.

(This was referenced in another thread found here: http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?game=268&mid=126742053424219575&num=5&page=1 but I thought I'd give it it's own thread.)

So they made a longer version of the E3 trailor and we're supposed to understand some trick about the game after seeing it. interesting. Has anybody seen this new trailor hit the web yet?

Has already been posted Here

I did mention it in the blog chat yesterday but was told it was a short break, seemed kind of obvious.

Doubt we will see this video, SE are good at keeping behind closed door footage from being filmed.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it anywhere online. Give it time, and it'll probably crop up somewhere though.

The trailer wasn't shown on the webcast, unfortunately.

After watching that video, it seems to me that they are going to have quests similar to WoW where you need to kill x amount of x mob to get rewards or something. Am I right?

Not sure if that was a joke or if you're serious. If you're serious, then:

I think numbers in names are only for those sample/test plays. If you noticed, the name of that character is "gcuser010."

"gc" stands for Gamescon (the name of the event where that trailer was showed. "user" is obvious. "010" is probably just there because it's the 10th user to log in.

Those usernames were created for GamesCom and I don't think it's any indication that you'll be able to have numbers in your name. That would go completely against it being a fantasy game, imo. :P

Like others have said, that's an old video, not the one shown behind closed doors at Vanafest. The Vanafest video was apparently an extended version of the game's opening CG, followed by a gameplay sequence. We can assume the gameplay differed in some way from that shown at Gamescon.

actually interesting videos (if only slightly):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scZzG0UOUFE& - starting at about 1:20, you see what appears to me an elezen (possibly hume) running through a field like area in what i would call harvesting gear. not much but at least some actual footage. The camera never actually zooms in enough to it in good focus.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63MtkfA5pWY& - tour of dev office. I've heard that what they are saying has very little to do with FFXIV, just general greetings, but there are a few parts of the vid where we can see some somewhat interesting stuff.

Yea guys, if you really pick this video apart little by little, pausing when needed, you'll see some really interesting stuff. Is that a sketch of...

Edit: Great video. It's good to see so many people working on FFXIV. Then again, it also gives you a first hand look on how things can go haywire, it's HUGE in there. (By haywire, I mean situations like certain items, armor, ANYTHING can just not get into the game because the file is sitting in one of those XXX,XXX,XXX amount of cubicles.)

same area probably but i dont think that the character is the same, the gear is clearly different and if i had to guess i would say it most closely resembes an elvaan male from FFXI, which was absent from gamescom.

Isn't there an image on the official site somewhere with a character having numbers in their name?

I'm against it though, I don't want people going around with ridiculous Yahoo email names =/

Yes I've seen those images too. But that is probably because the images were taken from an alpha-version of the game.

They may as well truncate the process and have 45% of the player-base just pick a few numbers to be automatically placed at the end of the word "Sephiroth."

Sephiroth007
Sephiroth69
Sephiroth42
Sephiroth111
Sephiroth365
Sephiroth247
Sephiroth777
Sephiroth9999
Sephiroth14
