The Secret Bonus Stage was short but sweet. There were no pictures allowed, so in this article I try to recreate the movie from memory. At the end, there is also a short (short!) interview with the developers and JP media.

I'm not even done reading this yet but it's pretty epic and put a smile on my face already. You describe it so well that it feels like i'm watching the actual trailer itself, thanks Elmer!

A shame you couldn't have gotten a video, but you paint a great picture in lieu of it. The content of the video is still rather cryptic though, but that's SE for you. :)

I'm disappointed you didn't hide a camera in a "hidden" place so that you could get video evidence. Imagine what you could charge for it.... hahaha

Okay in all honesty excellent writeup and i'm very jealous you got to go.

Keep up the good work!

ok first thing we can get hollywood movies on dvd same day as their released if you know where to look but we cant get crappy phone footage of this? now second thing :The Lalafell conjures up what looks to be a Fire spell, but suddenly the red energy flies back around and into the nocked arrow of the Hyuran's bow.  The arrow is then released and flies forth into the mouth of the beast, engulfing it in flames.:maybe mages can en spell other people in this one sounds cool.and last :maybe However, they still did not manage to successfully choose a Guildleve while he was spaced out.  The Hyuran looks back down at the leve that took him on his wild adventure and his expression hardens with determination.  It's decided -- he wants to do that one.  His friends agree and jump up to head out the door.  The Miq'ote is thrilled at the prospect of adventure and says "Let's give our Bard something to sing about.":i think thats the trick choosing the right guildeve its the only thing it seems repeated i dunno really know

I'm extremely unhappy to report that SE requested that Elmer take down his description of the trailer. Instead of removing it completely, I edited out basically all the details.

I was told that Elmer wasn't informed that he couldn't do this while at VanaFest, so he's not in any trouble. My guess is they want people to wait until they release the trailer on the official site.

En-spelling other people's weapons would be great. I wonder if you get a quick escape if you're losing like the airship thing that happened. Also, maybe there's no respawn time for guildleves? didn't he pick the same one again?

Maybe, if we forum posters come together as a swarm-memory, we can recreate Elmers epic tale of the trailer?

I remember Elmer mentioning something about the adventurer being swept from the tentacles of the marlboro by an airship.

I'm gonna give it a go.

NOTE FOR MODERATORS/PIKKO: I made up the following text exclusively by myself from pure imagination. It is in no way connected to Elmers previous post of the Vanafest trailer, and so should NOT be deleted or edited by Pikko and/or affiliates of Pikko.

Trailer begins…
Scene 1: Zoom in on a tavern, camera pans around in the room. No music is playing, adventurers are talking loudly to each other. Camera zooms in on a corner, where a young Hyur adventurer (the one previously seen in other trailers) stands at a desk trying to pick a guild-leve. A Roegadin stands at the opposite side of the desk. The adventurer looks at a card depicting a tornado, and suddenly it begins glowing, and he is beemed away.

Scene 2: When the adventurer reappears, he is in the sky looking down at the land from above. You can see grassy fields, forests and rivers (this was previously shown in another trailer). He drops to the ground and phews that he made it. But he only rests for a second and an evil Marlboro appears trying to kill him. At the moment it attacks our hero adventurer is saved by a protecting magical field, put up by a helping Lalafell adventurer…

(this part fades in my memory, but basically three or so adventurers fight the Marlboro in an epic battle ending with the Hyur adventurer shooting a flaming arrow into the mouth of the monster)…

Scene 3: Before dying, the Marlboro grabs our hero adventurer by its tentacles and is about to eat him. In the last second, however, he is swept away by an airship and finds himself in the middle of an epic air-fight (reminiscent of Star Wars). Lots of small airships (seen in previous trailers) are attacking a huge enemy airship. Suddenly a big dragon appears (it might be that well-known FF dragon, forgot his name, Bahamut?) and attacks the huge airship ferociously. The airship crashes and the dragon sits victoriously on top of it. The small airships turn to magical dust and disappears and our friend, the adventurer drops toward the ground.

Scene 4: As he nearly hits the ground he is beemed away/wakes up (not clear), and is suddenly back at the tavern, where he still hasn’t picked a guild-leve card. He finally picks one depicting a Marlboro and heads of with his adventurer friends. One of them says (in English), something along the line of “Now we gonna go kick ****”.
…end of trailer.

It seems woefully stupid to me too. I mean, you want people to have positive buzz about the game, not fume venomously about how much you resemble a turtle. I can totally understand them taking down crappy phone videos, but discussion and reporting? Very oppressive.

I would, but I'd imagine if SE demanded the original be removed, I doubt I could post my copy either :\

It seems silly because honestly information like that description only fuels the passion and excitement. A little spoiler here and there that perhaps they didn't plan on is good in the long run. Some little tidbits of leaked information for us to chew on in the interim and such...

Bah.

Jumping Raptor Jesus, why do they make everything so secret all the time? Just show the **** trailer to everyone! Quite a marketing department you have there Square.

Here is my interpretation of how the Secret bonus stage waiting line played out.

Quote:
(A well dressed Square Enix Representative stands at Bonus Stage Theater Entrance)

"May I have your Attention please!

Lucky Citizens and Journalists! We have a really amazing new FFXIV trailer we want to show you in this lavishly decorated theater, equipped with plush velvet seating, seductive cocktail waitresses in cosplay and Final Fantasy themed popcorn flavors.

Before you are allowed to enter this aesthetic paradise please listen carefully to the following regulations:

Cellphones, Cameras, Wheelchairs, Crutches, Tape recorders, Children, Pencils, Wigs, Clothes and those with 20/20 vision are not allowed in the theater at any time, thank you.

(A foreign gentleman raises his hand reluctantly near the back of the crowd)
I'm sorry... Sir, you had a question? You would like to write a descriptive article about the trailer to encourage millions of gamers to become interested in FFXIV? I'm sorry that is not allowed! Security take this man in custody and throw him out of the building... from the ROOF gentlemen.

I will take this time to request that all journalists please use extremely non-descriptive language when describing the awe inspiring cinematic experience you are about to drool over. Remember millions of dollars and hundreds of man hours were spent making the CGI masterpiece you are about to witness, because of this we ask you kindly to never describe it to anyone, especially gamers and potential customers. Any Articles written about the trailer must be written in welsh anapestic limerick form.

Violation of any of these rules will result in swift retaliation from our legal department. Thank you and enjoy the event.
(Faint Screaming noise outside following by loud Thud!)

Edit: I'm stupid site says update was the 23rd of decemberish. Though the screenshots that must have been new look like the description elmer "gave" us.

Yeah I agree, I'd really like something new to see on the website. However, even better than a pretty intro would be more details into the disciplines. But I'm just wishing out loud, cause right now we don't have either.

Okay so I found out what this trailer actually contained. It was actually the opening movie for the game, which I guess is why they're being so fanatical about hiding info. My guess is that we actually won't get to see what they saw in an official capacity until we either get into beta or purchase the final product.

Sry, off topic.

they also said there was a hidden meaning in the logo as well, which only led to people using magnifying glass to find every section of cleavage in it. *sigh* I don't know what they are afraid of.
