I submitted my SE Email before I linked it to my POL ID. Think that will be a problem?

So, I have NA POL account and EU SE account with beta application filled. To link my NA POL account I need to create NA SE account (as SE site says) and fill new beta application form, from the same IP. Will it mean a ban to both application or no?

I'm sorry Vantol, but I have no idea how they are determining that on their end. On our end, we're just collecting email addresses, picking a certain amount of people, and sending that info to Square Enix. If you are chosen, but get your email address wrong, then the info SE receives will be wrong and you won't get an invitation.

Hey Pikko,

Think you could change the subject to match up with the title of the home page message? This format had been followed consistently with the FFXI forum and I was just about to create a new post because I couldn't find a post with a matching header. I think this makes it much easier to find the news items to comment on.

By "consistently followed the format" I mean that when a new item is added to the main FFXI page a new post was also created in the FFXI forum with the heading of the announcement used as the subject of the post. (I just checked the FFXI General forum and this has been followed on that forum but not on the FFXIV General.

Also, when will FFXIV branch off into its own set of forums and stop piggy backing off of the FFXI site? I really hope the plan wasn't to merge the two into one huge FFMMO forum...

Additionally, each news item on the home page has a link to add comments. This is redundant and rarely used as everyone goes to the forum posts and comments there. How about making the comment link on the news story just go to the forum post instead of maintaining two locations for comments on each news article? (this last part maybe something that should be posted into the site feedback forum)

Edited, Mar 4th 2010 10:51am by windexy

News having its own separate comments is a known concern, but not something I can change. People just tend to comment on the forums more, which is why we do it this way.

FFXIV will have more forums when there's a need for them. Right now so little information is out there about the game that we feel it would only splinter conversations.

Pikko, do you guys pick the emails to send on or are they all getting passed on and SE does the selection?

If you mean that you submitted your email to our form before linking, then no, because we aren't choosing people and sending to SE until Monday.

We are doing a random draw and passing on to Square Enix.

The FFXIV forums on Alla are already their own distinct forums. They're just linked from the FFXI sidebar for convenience to the FFXI community.

Thanks for the info Pikko regarding why those links are the way they are and the combined forums plan.

Regarding the part that was skipped over...?

Could you guys make an effort to stick with the tried and true naming conventions used on the main ffxi site to ffxi forums post?

It doesn't sound like much but like you said everyone skips the comments link on the news article and comes here. Many looking for a post with the same subject as the news articles subject.

I appreciate your feedback, Windexy, but I think people coming specifically to the forum to talk about the recruitment will find this thread. I'll keep what you said in mind for the future though, especially if they finally link the news story comments to the forums officially! (which would be so ideal!)

Pikko ~ I applied for the beta back when they first posted for it. Is this something different and I should apply again? or should I just leave it as is and hope for the best?

Yes, this is something different than the main FFXIV beta entry. You need the main entry to do this 2nd entry.

I cancelled my FFXI account years ago, so I'm not eligible for this Beta recruitment thing.

I just find it suspicious that this announcement comes so soon after the whole fiasco over at FFXIVcore for trying to sell Beta keys. It seems like the person at FFXIVcore knew there would be an opportunity to get Beta keys from SE and give them out to users of their website, even though they repeatedly denied knowing anything about that.

I'm still glad that SE seems to be willing to do this for ZAM and FFXIClopedia, indicating that FFXIVcore didn't ruin this opportunity for everyone.

A lot of MMO fansites get a certain number of keys to give out for MMO betas. It's a very common practice for MMO developers to reach out to their fans that way. There was no conspiracy, inside source, sexual innuendo, or weapons of mass destruction. There was only a dumb admin and later a pie. That's all you need to know.

Certainly not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth, because I'll take any chance at beta I can get, but I talked to two different POL reps today and they were completely unaware of this. Like I said, don't get me wrong...Alla has been my place for info since the olden days of XI so I don't think it's a scam, which I specifically told the reps. But the second guy said they are usually given a heads up about this sort of thing so the call centers can handle the influx of calls -- they received nothing about this though.

Sorry, but I don't know why they didn't disclose the drawing, but it's possible because this is for XIV, which will not be handled by POL.

This kinda worries me as well. I did have a few questions about this process that I had PM'd Pikko about. She may or may not know and with the deadline fast approaching and most service down during the weekend I think its pretty important to get answers asap.

*edit* Pikko replied while I was posting. Crazy plant ninjas!

Any word on how many lucky winners there will be in the drawing? Would be nice if more than just a handful of people are selected, but I guess any amount is more than none. Good luck to everyone and hope to see some of you in testing soon.

Wouldn't surprise me if Core got invites as well except they are keeping it quite, Zyu had his favourites picked out weeks ago anyway.

You guys say "early access to the beta". Are you talking access before march 11th even? Or is it just "access to the beta" like I'd imagine?

Since both contests require you to have a an FFXI account as well, im guessing its just more chances for the alpha. The whole "exclusive alpha to loyal FFXI fans" thing.

Well, Either SE had a Set amount of people they needed to fill tester needs for themselves, and had X amount of space left over and thought they would reach out to the community leaders to help fill those spots, or they are just trying to let the community leaders take a small part in the process by providing names from a separate drawing after the very open flamefest that occured this past week.

That or they are replacing everyone that has been removed for breaking the NDA on other sites...

No, this is for the same as the VanaFest people.

As for Core, they aren't a XI Premier Site, so they don't have the same deal as us. As to whether they have a separate one, I don't know.

Q: I imagine that you are only sending a short list for SE to draw from, and that it's possible that not everyone you send in will get invited. Will you be sending PM's or emails to the people that have been short listed for this drawing?

I'm not sure but wouldn't this be breaking the NDA (I guess nothing is confirmed until SE says it is though, so maybe not), it would be cool if ZAM people could all meet up in game though or even create a guild/LS.

All notifications about whether you got in will come from Square Enix. Even if I look at our list, I have no way of knowing if you got in because I can't verify if you're active in XI and applied for beta or whether you just typed your email wrong (twice), which is why Square Enix is handling the invitations.

Juexonline are also taking beta invite applications, Link

If this is breaking the forum rules feel free to delete the link.

You might want to use google translate seeing at the site is in French, and I'm not 100% sure non French players can apply, worth a shot none the less.

Edit - seems they have 100 places.

Read a translation of the rules on the French site, says anyone can apply regardless of country. But then again, it also didn't ask which region your POL account would be like the other two forms did. (they did, right? or am I imagining things..) No telling if it's intended for EU only or everybody.

Sooo..

My SE account login is email A... but I think my Beta information/notification emails came to email B...

Since I cannot submit a second Beta application through SE - so I assume I gave the wrong info? Or was there an email field to use beyond the email linked to your SE account?

I'd hate to get lucky and then like "Ooops wrong app/email."

The amount given to each site was supposed to have been kept confidential, but don't assume that everyone got the same amount of passes.
