Just Cause 2 is coming out this month. I really hope they take more care when we test FFXIV for them than they took when testing this game.

o.O
That was a crazy video.

I wouldn't worry though. It's Final Fantasy. I really can't see them ******** up the crown jewel of RPGs and their flagship product.

Joke topic? Just Cause 2 is not developed by SE.

We need a jump button before we can fly :P

I hope the draw distance is as good as that in FF14 though :O

Different development teams make different games. That's clearly not the same team that's making FFXIV, and I highly doubt SE will test it similarly.

And I wouldn't call any problems with that video to be due to testing. More like game design. I played the demo, and the parachute wouldn't be as useful if you died when trying to use it near the ground. Fortunately, Eidos wasn't aiming for realism with JC2.

For what it's worth their brand name is plastered all over the game.

SE bought Eidos awhile back, and it's now a part of SE Europe. Still a different division within the company, though.

Ha. It's got the same parachute bug as Pilotwings 64. In that 14 year old game you can dive right into the bull's-eye of the landing target, and if you deploy your parachute just before you hit the ground you get a perfect landing impact score. I guess parachutes take a loooooong time to get right. Man, now I wanna play Pilotwings again.

Great, now I wanna play Pilotwings 64 again. That game was awesome.

Great observation.
As someone who has skydived a few times I can tell you from experience that the inherit velocity of your freefall does not allow such antics. Minimum chute deployment is 2000 Feet and that is really pushing it.

The freefall physics and animations are outstanding, very convincing. When I saw that first chute pull it made me cringe though.

Does anyone know what capacity Square Enix served for this game? I can't find anything. I am thinking they helped with CGI animations for the intro or something as this game is no where to be seen even in Squares website.

Well considering FFXIV probably won't even have a physics engine, I don't think you should worry about anything like that.

I see, so the trick to not getting hurt is going rag-doll as soon as you hit the ground until you're done rolling down the cliff. Genius.

Wow. From standing still, you can jump forwards about 20 feet and deploy your parachute, then ride the parachute straight without descending for miles, 10 feet off the ground.

That game's physics engine looks like what would happen back when we used to glitch up Goldeneye with Gameshark codes that messed with the walls and gravity.

Good times. You got me all reminiscing:

I was thinking the opposite.

Lately games with the SE name on them work. They launch and run, they don't crash to desktop, they can run for days without crashing. Some physics may have some bugs but unlike many other games I've sampled lately they at least work.

But maybe thats saying more about the entire industry and its decline in quality control and we-can-patch-later mentality.

This game wasn't made by Square-Enix, they are merely publishing it.

Play the song 'Women Lie, Men Lie' by Yo Gotti. Fits perfectly with the video you linked. I thought the song was in the video but I remembered I had it playing on AOL Radio lol >.< Regardless of the physics, game looks awesome. Might be looking into this more now...

Downloaded this demo off the PSN store, the game is crack. Leaping out of a moving vehicle with a parachute apparently makes cars into moving bombs.

Here's what I do every single time I load up this demo:

1. Cause enough chaos to unlock the "Race Mission".
2. Start the race mission, get in the plane and go as high as it'll let you (game will say "Leaving demo area")
3. Jump out and just free-fall back to earth.

Always puts a smile on my face :)

I rather enjoy hijacking the helicopters and raining fury from above :D

Skydiving from high above is fun too.. it's also a challenge to try and fall back down to the helicopter and get in :D
