The Final Fantasy XIV beta website has updated with new information regarding the PS3 beta. We hope you plan on purchasing Final Fantasy XIII because it seems necessary in order to complete the application process.

Back in December we mentioned that there will be a Final Fantasy XIV beta for the PS3 version of the game. Well, if you go to the FFXIV beta application website you will notice that the fine print has the following additional information:

* If you have received a FINAL FANTASY XIV promotional code for registering FINAL FANTASY XIII on the Square Enix Members site, please use it to apply for the beta test.
* The promotional code will also be required to obtain the FINAL FANTASY XIV secret in-game item, so please hold on to your code until the game’s official release.
* If you have already applied for the FINAL FANTASY XIV beta test but would like to apply for the PlayStation 3 beta with a FINAL FANTASY XIV promotional code, please be aware that all previous applications will be invalidated.

If you try to apply now and select the PlayStation 3 as your platform of choice for the beta, you will receive an error due to the missing code. You will also find the following fine print under the question itself:

If you received a FINAL FANTASY XIV promotional code for registering FINAL FANTASY XIII on the Square Enix Members site, please enter that code now.

Final Fantasy XIII is less than 24 hours away from releasing in Europe and North America. Expect more news regarding the FFXIV beta soon.

For now, yes. I honestly figured PS3 beta would just be an open beta download in the store.. /shrug

Does anyone know if I'll gain an invite to apply for the PS3 beta if I buy the Xbox 360 version of the game? I don't have a PS3 at the moment, but am looking to purchase one in the semi-near future.

Edit: clarification

So if you buy FFXIII for PS3 what are the chances of getting into the PS3 beta and when? I'm not buying a $60 game just for a small chance of getting into the beta.

Yeah, I wanna know the chances too. If it was guarenteed then I would be MUCH more tempted to get FXIII. I'm not interested much at all in XIII so I really don't want to buy it just for the beta code with a slim chance of getting in and some unknown item that may or may not be cool.

This code that comes with FFXIII ISN'T just for PS3, on the Beta Application itself you are given the option to enter the code for both PC and PS3...

So Spike, maybe it WILL help your PC app, yet you cant use it for both? Wonder if playing FFXI and adding this code will triple your PC beta chances lol

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently it really does nothing for PC beta, only is required for PS3 beta app.

So this code will work even if you don't have a PS3? I only have a PC, but I'd be willing to buy the game for a BETA key. What if you've already applied for BETA though?

------------------------------------------------------------------------

lmao they spelled Final Fantasy as FINAL FNATASY, in the paragraph before they give you your code. "Click the link that appears below the FINAL FNATASY XIV promotional code and enter using the official beta tester application form."

It seems like you can only use it to apply for PS3 beta. So maybe PS3 beta is exclusive to only those who bought FF13 and only a select few of those that did will be picked?? This is confusing because on the beta application awhile back it had a box with a choice for PS3, so maybe they doing 2 separate pickings, 1 from that picking, and then this picking(selecting beta testers from those who use this code, which is only and can only be applied to, and for the PS3 beta)

ok so before if you already submitted a beta app you couldn't apply again with the same square-enix account, now you can with this code apparently, but the boxes to select both Windows Pc and PS3, are now only letting you pick one and it asks which one are you picking. So ****! I don't think I can say anything more now because of the beta rules

ok so those boxes asking you for Windows PC or PS3, well depending on each one you click, the PC specifications disappears(for PS3) or appears(for PC). When using the PS3 box it only asks you about what type of internet provider, internet type, your using and what security software and what kind of router you have type of questions.

also when it asks you for your code on the new beta application, make sure you dont copy and paste because the spaces take up 4 slots that you need for the last 4 digit set of numbers(the code is 5 sets of 4digits)

Well that answers that. Thanks for the information. Looks like this is just going to be for one of the later PS3 BETA phases.

On a related note, I sure hope they not only give FFXI players a special "in game item" on FFXIV, but they give you a different one depending on how long you played FFXI. Something that says you didn't just play for a month, but played for a long time. A fluff item of course, just for decoration, but it would still be nice.

Does anyone know if the code from a Japanese version of FFXIII works on a EU square enix account? I guess not, considering how FFXI and its different regions have worked, but still... hope so, would suck to have to buy the game again, just because I need a EU code.

Promotional codes are region restricted, japanese codes won't work for the EU/US beta.

(I got the confirmation from the SE support center)

Please be careful before rushing into anything.
This is some very important information that you should consider before using the promotion code.
Quote:
* If you have already applied for the FINAL FANTASY XIV beta test but would like to apply for the PlayStation 3 beta with a FINAL FANTASY XIV promotional code, please be aware that all previous applications will be invalidated.

So instead of putting yourself in a small pool of people that are active FFXI players, you would instead be put in a pool of everyone that purchased FFXIII early.

Yeah, I figured, thank you very much for letting me know. I don't want to get into the beta, so it is just for the secret item, but good to have it confirmed.

It's a little confusing, but here's what I've gathered:

-Previously, submitting multiple applications would invalidate all of your applications.
-This has been changed so that a new application using this code will invalidate previous applications, but replace them with the new one.
-You can no longer apply for both PC and PS3 beta (they probably never did accept applications for the PS3 beta, so I have no idea why they had the option on there).

Be careful about using this code.

Sorry for being annoyed by blogspam. But it hurts legit sites.

What's funny is that ps3attitude originally quoted Eorzeapedia as the original source (even linked to the article), but now they do not. The site is overrun with (flash) ads and referring URLs they get revenue on.

Now, according to http://www.ps3attitude.com/charity/ they donate everything to charity. But considering they removed their Eorzeapedia as the source, I don't exactly trust the site.

So I can only apply for the PS3 beta if I buy FF13? Someone tell me i'm wrong. I don't have ff13, and don't want it. I've already applied for the PC beta, can I still apply for the ps3 beta?

Unless one of the previous posters is correct, I'd say that since you were able to check ps3 and or pc in the original app, then yes, you were able to apply for ps3 beta in theory back then. I'd say the 'promo code' for FF13 owners, while not necessarily guaranteeing you a spot, would put you in a 'first timers' pool much like FFXI players had a bit of preference in the first PC pool.

At first, but not anymore. Submitting multiples now only replaces the previous application. I'm pretty sure this was done due to people not having their FFXI accounts linked to their SE ID when first applying to the beta. This would've given people who had not yet applied a chance to link and increase their chances for beta. Kinda unfair if you ask me so I'm glad they made this change.

Borkachev wrote:

Its actually now for any applications regardless of codes. If you reapply without a code it will still replace previous applications, probably for reasons stated above.

Pretty standard. You get accepted to one or the other. Not really sure why you would want to be selected for both, but in any case whichever you most recently applied for will be the platform your beta key will be issued to if you are selected. If you got an email thursday with a beta key for PC and downloaded the beta but then went back to the website and registered your key its highly doubtful that you would be booted from beta and tossed back in the pool.

Is there a 'redeem by' date on the code you are recieving? Is there a seperate code for the beta and the in-game item? Unless you have to put it in before thursday you may as well wait anyway...

SquareEnix wrote:

Always a **** mystery with these guys.
"We are considering the definite possibility that there might be a chance the in-game item code is somehow linked to the beta application process. You must redeem this code immediately upon applying for the beta. However, you should not enter this code until the official release of the game, being long after the beta is done. What the **** did I just say?" -SE rep

So now what? Do you apply for the beta again and possibly **** up your shot at getting in first with PC, or do you wait and possibly miss increasing your chance at getting a key based on your purchase of XIII? What the **** is their facination with this lottery crap? The moogle bonanza is now expert level!

The oddest thing about it is that despite the incredibly confusing information we have been supplied, I still want to get into the beta. If nothing else, for the sheer entertainment of how borked this process has been.
