Hey guys/girls, I come here today for your help about a certain new game that is coming out this fall, ffxiv.
I'm sorry if I sound a little stupid with these questions, but I'm not that tech savvy.
Recently I've been watching various videos on YouTube about ffxiv and I've really started taking a liking to it, especially the little guys tarutaru? I think that's what they are called.
I'm looking at buying a new computer just for the game, if you guys would be so kind as to tell me what sort of system you guys think I would need to play the game smoothly and give me some suggestions to what to get it woulc be much appreciated!
Or would it be easier for me to buy a ps3 slim? Sorry if I come across stupid once again but if you could help it would be wonderful.

Thanks again.

Pinkfyre/Jessica.

Pretty much any new PC would beable to handle the game (make sure you get one with a graphics cards though and not onboard graphics), PS3 is probably your best bet if you want the least hassle.

To be honest, if you aren't that tech savvy and don't have many uses for a computer beyond FFXIV and the internet it would probably be best if you just bought a ps3.

I would go with a PS3 in your situation. There's been no confirmation of secs yet -however they have stated that a high performance PC would be required to get the complete expirence. I am toying with the idea of getting one, provided I can get it cheap that is. Luckilly my birthday is in July - well before FFXIV comes out, time enough to start dropping hints like bricks.

They were called Tarutaru in Final Fantasy XI. In this game, they will be called Lalafell. Same basic principle, different universe.

I've never played games like this on the PS3, but I'm sure you'll need a keyboard to play a game like this. I'd wager that you'll want a wireless one for its flexibility, too.

Well, in FFXI you didn't "need" a keyboard to play, there was an in-game keyboard where you used the controller to select letters and basically type like that, almost nobody used it. I assume XIV will have a similar function, so you likely won't "need" a keyboard to play but it will make things much easier.

Any USB keyboard will work with ps3.

I agree with everyone else. Save yourself some money and time and pick up a PS3 and a keyboard. Simple.

You won't have any hassles running the game like you may get with a computer, plus youll need a decent computer to get full settings, where the PS3 is going to give you full settings out of the box. (No word yet on whether the game will be toned down for the PS3 but if it is, it won't be much.)

For me though, I will be playing it on my PC as I already have a top of the line rig and I shant let it go to waste. LOL

I have a USB keyboard, So I can use that instead of a wireless one? If I could that would save me more money :)

Yes, you can plug it in to the ps3's USB ports.

Naw, lots of people don't realize you can just use a PC keyboard for a PS3. Same goes for xbox360 too. Everyone goes and buys those $40 or whatever chatpads that you have to have small hands to type on... then they complain how small it is. And when they realize they could have just used that extra USB keyboard lying in the corner, they hate me for informing them.

Please don't. As I've said to people before, the only dumb question is the one that doesn't get asked. :)

You have to ask questions to learn Pink. Good luck in the game as well. You will do fine, and meet up with a lot of great people. We also meet people not so great in games, but we ignore those lol! Hope you enjoy it.

My sister had cancer, and I got her into another game, called EQ, she had never played one before. She kept telling me,Thank you , thank you. She so enjoyed it. She was in her 60's, she died last Christmas. I miss her a lot, but I am so glad I got her into that game before she left, she really did enjoy it.

Everyone helped her with all the things she did not know about. She was a real people person, and loved the aspect of meeting and playing with others from all over the world.

I can share in your story, maxinehoward. I met a friend in UO years back, she had AIDS since she was 14 and I met her when she was 24. She couldn't do anything because of all her medications, all she had was that game. Sometimes people can be real jerks online, but when you truly get to know someone you can really form some special bonds. She was like a sister or aunt to me, and I really miss her a ton. It's not always the escape from reality, the fun game systems, or even the community as a whole.. sometimes I play games online looking for connections like the one I had with her. Truly great friendships that extend past physical locations, it's an interesting world we live in.

Pinkfyre, I played FFXI on a PS2, and I absolutely loved it. Playing from the couch has great appeal ^^. The easiest way to decide on which system to play is this: do you prefer WASD movement along with a mouse for camera control, or do you like to play mainly from a controller? (...and it's ok if you haven't played enough with either or both types of controls to know for sure) If you aren't sure about any aspect of the decision though (control, cost of system, etc.), I say go with a PS3 as others have said if for no other reason than ease of use.

Also Pinkfyre, you're getting a good look at why so many of us say that FFXI has the best community in any MMO. I did some massive rate-ups as I read through this thread because of people giving good info, welcoming a new, inexperienced player, and above all... just being polite.

/cheers! ^^

WooShoo, thanks for the kind post, i have decided to go with the ps3 and have the couch as my seat, seems more comfortable than sitting on a computer chair for hours.
I hope to meet kind people in the game like the kind people of this forum, one of the best communities I've ever been in to be honest :).
Also I'm sorry about your loved ones guy/girls I really hope you are coping well.

I am coping well, thank you. It was hard at first, but it has been several years since then. I still do miss her, but I hold back the tears and carry on.

And I'm sure you will have ample opportunities to return the favour, remember that you will eventually be in-game with us and not just on this forum. :)

I am coping well. She fought it for over 10 years. I love her and miss her. I have faith, and hope to see her again someday, when it's my turn to go.

I bet you will meet up with some great people in game.

Thank you. Your right too, not all of us are jerks. And the community is what makes a lot of the game fun.

I hope the ingame community is as good as it is here, as a good community would attract more players, therefore more friends and more fun gameplay.
