From the jobs that are being told can someone set up a poll so we can see what people will want for their main job and a second job? Just so we can see how many people will ba a Glad or a Pug?

Redyoshi
Has a poll going a few post down. select your jobs.

As a FFXI DRG I really want to be a Lancer. It sounds like there is a good deal of thinking involved, which I like.
Oddly I'm considering a gladiator also. The reason I say "oddly" is because I hated tanking in FFXI.
I'd like some info on the alchemy class in battle. If they have any use at all in battle I'd like to give that a try.
Game isn't eve close to out and already I have a list of things to do.

Will probably try out Lancer or Thaumathurge first for my Lalafell. Generally I don't like close combat classes, it's too stressful.

I plan to play whichever the main healing class turns out to be in a static with a close friend, but otherwise, I am looking at lancer. The picture of the Lalafell lancer just seems fun to me.

Hehe ^^; Personally I find mage jobs more stressful. when i played meele jobs in FFXI i was surprised how i could just lean back and wait TP bar grow. When i was white mage i was all the time staring at party members' hps and waiting when the protect and shell were wearing off and when i had to throw some silenas and poisonas etc. lol. So now i'm taking a break being healer. But for sure, sooner or later i'm gonna lvl healer job again. I just love the feeling i'm needed somehow D:

I'm going to start as a conjurer to be a healer this time around. If for whatever reason I don't like it pugilist is my fall back plan.

EDIT: I will say if the alchemist were to somehow turn out like a chemist in battle, I would be all over that =). But I highly doubt it.

Probably Conjurer or Pugilist. I've always been a heavy tank and melee DD in other games. I think I'll give Mage and light/evasion tank a go this time.

I don't know yet, I'd like to have more information about the classes before deciding. Whatever choice I make will then influence what race I'll be. The race I pick will influence what my character's name will be.

I'm surprised that there are as many votes for Marauder as there are for Botanist (1). People are just as psyched to swing a giant axe as they are to plant things, eh?

Things are a little more even on the front page poll, with Marauder getting as many votes as Lancer (7, or roughly 10%).

Gladiator is currently top dog there (10 votes, 15%). I hope that changes a little by release. I've got a thing for playing as a rare class; it makes me feel a little more unique. Ironically, that's why I picked RNG back in FFXI.

Honestly, I have no clue. I'm leaning towards Pugilists, but other classes sound tempting as well such as Lancer, Archer or one of the mages. Red Mage was my main in FFXI and I loved it so I could see myself playing a mage as well. One thing is for sure though, I will definitely be trying them all out.

Been talking with some old friends from FFXI who are planning to play to game... it'll likely depend on if we end up on the same server or not (I hope we're able to choose this time around). I was thinking a tank or a healer, depending on what other people choose. Likely I'll start with Gladiator, but an evasion tank in Pug seems kinda cool too.

I was originally thinking lancer or conjurer but I don't like playing classes that are too common. If the trend in this poll is the same in the game I might have to choose something else. Thaumaturge sounds like it will be the debuffer/enfeebler...I might end up with that if conjurer and lancer are more common than I like.

To be honest, i don´t find any job i like. At this moment, the jobs seems to general for me. I believe these jobs are the starting ones, and specialization in, lets say, black mage or blue mage will come after some kind of weapon upgrade. Remeber how everything was about the weapons? or at least thats what i remember reading from the developers at the begining of FFXIV realease anoucement. I think its to early for meto decide. However, i do know i wanna be a support class, something like BRD or COR.

Assuming weapons have an important role this time, i guess i'll be a blacksmith since day 1. I'm still kindda confused about its role in a Party, but this time i want to be rich hehehe. So Miqote Blacksmit it is at the moment :)

I voted for Pugilist.

I'm kinda hoping their a evasion tank type of class....Ive been a tank in every mmo ive played eq, wow, aion, AoC, ffxi...its what im good at I like being the first in and the guy that keeps all the lil squishies from screaming lol. But Evasion tanking would put a whole new swing on tanking for me nomore stack hp's/armor which tends to be most mmo's tanking ways.If they turn out to be crappy for tanking then I'll probably be going the next best which at the moment looks like Glad.

And definitely going a secondary of Thaumaturge lol always like being needed lol. Maybe I wasnt held enough as a kid lol =P

my first instinct was to be a lancer, but I'm considering Thurmaturge. Generally I choose a class that none of my friends are (usually ends up being a healer or tank). I've always liked Polearms so think I'll give this a try.

So as of right now Lancer is the most popular job. I would like to officially thank all eternal powers for seeing to it Lancers don't get pets to follow them around in XIV. I think people will go Lancer for the awesome factor(yes there is one :P) but I see it being dropped rather quickly. This is because as it is, the Lancer appears to be a utility class rather than just plain DD.

And yes I will go Lancer, and if eventually it is revealed that you can use abilities from other classes, I will most likely be taking the Marauder's Disorient to combine with the Lancer's Life Surge. Epic team utility right there.

Well so far it appears that most of the classes potentially have more and one role. So that line of thinking can be applied to all of them.

Gld = DD/Tank
Lnc = DD/Support
Cnj = Magic DD/Healer
Tha = Magic DD/Support

QFT

This upsets me greatly. DRG was by far my favorite job in FFXI. I'm going to miss my little wyvern by my side.
That being said, I plan on being a Lancer anyway. I'm just a little worried about how all the Lancer pictures being shown are of Lalafells....

After that, depending on how the "crafting" classes are, I've been really interested in alchemy. You know, with the limited info and pictures we've seen.

Yeh that's true. I just find that the perception of many of the classes isn't going to be dual purpose. They will be seen as DD, Support, Healer etc. This is especially true for those that played FFXI simply because that is what they are familiar with is all. The weapon is tied to a type of play and all that.

I can't say for sure without more information, but I'm most interested in the discipline of the hand classes. If possible (and beneficial) I'd like to hybrid him with some THF-like abilities (Steal/TH type dillies).

As far as a pure battle oriented class, I like what we've seen from Archer so far, although in the end I always end up drawn toward mage classes, so we'll see what happens.

Not nearly enough info for me yet. None of the classes are that appealing to me right now. Hopefully something will turn up that captures my interest. Gameplay wise they all sound like they'll be reasonably fun, though, so that's a good sign. It's just the cosmetics that are stumping me for now.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.
